Chapter II

Frank's pov.

"C'mon! Hurry the fuck up!" I shouted, banging on the bathroom door. "You've been in there for three fucking hours Gee! I need a goddam shower!"
"In a minuteeeeeeeee," I heard him answer for the thousandth time. "I'm almost done!"
"Yeah, right.." I mumbled.
I could still hear the goddam water running. What the fuck was he even doing? Trying to raise a farm in there or something? I wasn't exaggerating when I said three fucking hours. Oh, I had counted. I kept on banging the door, hoping that would annoy him and make him come out faster. I don't think he heard though. He was too busy singing.
"Ahh, Frankie, this shower is real niceee! I'm so glad Matt rented this house for the summer!" he moaned as I rolled my eyes.
"Two bad there are only three," I heard Mikey say behind me, "And that Frank has to share with you."
He winked at me. Because I was the youngest, I had to share a bathroom with Gee who spends a whole day in there, I had to share a room with Ray, who snores the loudest, or else sleep in the goddam garage, and I had to put my clothes in the kitchen counter because there weren't enough closets for everyone. I stuck my tongue out at Mikey.
"Hey, chill kid," he said with a small giggle. "There's a vacant one upstairs ; Ray is in the other. Go on. Run along."
"Uh, thanks," I sighed.
He was nice to me but he still treated me like a kid, even if he wasn't twenty one yet either. I grabbed my clothes and went up the stairs, glancing quickly at the clock. 10.53 am. The concert was in less than ten hours. I took my time in the shower as well, ignoring Mikey banging on the door because he needed his fucking hairbrush and comb and goddam hairspray. I was relaxed, enjoying the warm shower and no one would take that from me.
After I was finished, I got dressed and went downstairs and stepped in the living room, where everyone was sitting.
"Oh, hey, Frank," Gee said as he saw me. "We're trying to figure out what to do for lunch."
I shot a glance at my watch. It was past one pm.
"I don't know, we should go out," I suggested. "Do you know what's around here?"
"No, but Matt does." said Ray.
"When is he coming?" I turned to him.
"His train gets to New Jersey at around three I think," said Gee. "Then he still has a half an hour bus drive to here."
"Should we wait for him to eat?" I wondered.
"No fucking way! I'm starving!" Ray growled.
The two brothers nodded in agreement.
"He can take care of himself you know," Gee added.
"Okay then, we can drive around the city, we'll find something." I sighed as they stood up.
"I'm driving!" Gee said. "I'm the oldest."
"I'm the tallest," Ray pointed out.
"Well I don't fucking care who's driving, I call shotgun!" Mikey said.
I didn't say anything. I knew I'd end up in the back seat whatever I said.
"You can drive on the way back," Gee said to Ray.
He nodded slowly. "Whatever. I don't want to fight with you."

We drove around for a dozen minutes until we came across a sushi place. We all looked at each other and nodded. I was glad, I loved sushi. Gerard dropped us off in front of the restaurant and drove off to find a spot to park the car. The three of us stepped in, our stomachs growling loudly.
"A table for three?" asked a very tall and handsome young man after I closed the door behind me.
I slapped myself internally. I could not find him attractive. I was into girls.
"Actually, four. My brother's on his way," said Mikey.
The boy led us to a table and handed us four menus. I made eye contact with him and felt a tightness in the air. No, I would not flirt with a waiter. I couldn't. I had to stick to girls. I looked around for a waitress but this was not my lucky day. There was only one guy working on the tables today.
"Frank, are you okay? You look like you've just seen a ghost," Ray laughed.
I had. I'd just seen the ghost of my dignity.
"Uh, nah, no nothing. Just hungry I guess," I stuttered.
What would they say if they knew I was imagining boys in my bed? What would Gee say if I told him I had a crush on him? Oh god, I could not tell him.
"So, have you decided yet?" I looked up to meet deep green eyes.
I then realized I hadn't even opened my menu. I must of looked like a fool.
"I'm taking a menu M3, Ray's taking a bowl of rice and the vegetarian rolls. Frank you can share the menu L10 with Gee." Mikey said, turning to me.
"M3, rice, veggie rolls, lovers menu," the waiter repeated, writing it all down on his pad. "Anything else?" He was looking down at me, half a smile on his tilted face.
"I'm heterosexual," I blurted out.
Mikey snorted and Ray shuffled his feet under the table, keeping his laughter in. Oh, how good I was at making a fool of myself in public places.
"It would be okay if you weren't," he said, his smile getting wider.
I looked down at my empty plate and bit my lip. Oh, what a fool I was.
"We'll just take four cokes. Thanks," Mikey said as he handed him our menus.
The waiter left without looking back, but I could feel he was still smiling to himself. Gee stepped in before anyone could ask what the fuck just happened.
"Oh, guys, it's so hard to find a proper parking spot out here," he panted, plopping down in his seat. "So, did you order yet?"
"Yep. You're sharing an L10, Love Bite, with Frank. Ten sushi, ten maki and twenty sashimi."
"Sweet, I'm starving. I could eat a cow," he sighed.
I looked at him and thought about how he would kiss me and slip a hand down my pants on stage. It was just for the show, and he didn't know it turned me on a lot. The waiter pulled me from my thoughts by putting a tray full of raw fish under my face. I gazed up and saw that he was still smiling. He looked at me and winked. I felt Gee's eyes on me. He was possibly thinking something. I cleared my throat and looked away, fidgeting with the edges of the table cloth. My cheeks were warm, probably bright red, and my heart was pounding so fast I got scared the people in the restaurant could hear it thump. No one said anything until the waiter left without a word.
"God Frankie! Gonna get yourself a date or something?" Gee laughed. "I swear this kid can't go anywhere without flirting with anyone."
"I wasn't flirting with him! And I'm straight Gee!" I tried to defend myself but my voice was shaky.
"Yeah, you made that clear to him," Mikey added, a grin creeping up on his face. "And to us."
"What? What did I miss?" Gee gasped, a huge smile on his face.
"Nothing," I mumbled as I looked down at my plate. "Let's just eat."
We ate in silence but then started to talk about tonight. We would get back to the rented summer house, prepare the place for Matt, then wait for him to come and we'd all drive to the concert.
"Wait, is he coming at three or four?" I asked between two bites.
"Three thirty," Gee answered, his mouth full.
"He's coming from Washington isn't he?" Mikey asked. His brother nodded.
"That's a three and a half hour trip," I said. "And he said his train would leave at twelve thirty. So his train arrives to NJ at four, not three."
"Okay, smart ass, so he gets here at four thirty. Big deal," Gee snorted.
I rolled my eyes and finished my share. It would not get to me. I had to stay calm.
"What can we do while we wait for him?" Ray asked, changing the subject. "There's not much here."
"We can always play," Mikey said after pushing his plate away. "My fingers have been itching to strum a cord."
We agreed on doing that. At least we would not be wasting our time in front of the tv. We payed for the meal and got back to the house. I couldn't wait to put my hands on my guitar. Playing meant so much to me. It was the moments where I could forget about everything and just think about the chords and the beautiful instrument I was holding. My mind became an empty music sheet and my thoughts turned into notes. It was my hour of liberation, when I could reach nirvana. By the time we were done rehearsing all the songs on our upcoming album, it was almost four. Time had flown by so fast.
"We gotta make this place shine," Ray said, flopping down on the couch beside me.
"No we just need to fix Matt's room. It'll be done in no time," Gee said. "Frank, come help me."
He pulled me by the sleeve and went upstairs into the vacant room, waiting for Matt to settle in.
"So, are we gonna talk about the waiter?" Gee asked as he dropped bed sheets down from the bedroom closet.
"We don't have to," I mumbled. "There're so many better things to talk about you know."
He jumped down from the bed and playfully ruffled my hair.
"Whatever. Just messing with ya," he whispered with a smile.
Something about the way he was looking at me and his hand on the back of my hair and how close his face was to mine made me look down at my feet. I bit my lip, trying to slow down the beating of my heart. He must of felt something too because he turned away and unfolded the sheets.
"Help me will ya?" he asked, looking back at me. "I need a hand to spread the sheet across the bed."
I came over and held an edge of the sheet, pulling it against me so they were no folds. I settled it back down on the bed and tucked the edges under the mattress, trying not to look at Gerard. Somehow it felt like he knew and was making fun of me for it. After we were done making his bed, we went back down to wait for him. He'd be there in no time. The rest of the band was cleaning up the kitchen counter and folding the laundry. What a funny thing to see, your band mates doing house work. I put a few dishes in the washing machine and settle down on the couch. Then I heard the doorbell. I got up to open the door to our drummer.
"Heeeeeey, Frankieeee!" he said as he saw me. "How you doing? I'm so glad to see you guys."
He came in and gave me a hug, dropping his bags next to him. I picked two up and took them upstairs into his bedroom. When I came down they were all on the couch drinking a beer. I took one for myself and sat down next to Ray.
"Hey, guys," Matt said after drinking a sip. "You know on the train, I saw these two girls. And one was wearing a Dookie tshirt so I asked her if she was going to the concert tonight. They're actually staying in NJ for the summer. I thought it'd be nice to hang out with them, since you guys ain't really social people you know."
"Sure," Gee said. "As long as we don't fight over em."
I could tell he was looking at me, but my gaze was resting on the coffee table covered with cigarette butts.
"Ah, I'm so hungry. You guys ate? I'm gonna fix myself a sammich." Matt said, getting up from the couch.
"When are we leaving for the gig?" I dared to ask.
It was barely five and we took only about an hour to get there. We had plenty of time. But I couldn't wait.
"Probably at six or six thirty," Matt said as he opened the fridge. "It starts at eight right?"
"Yuuup," Gerard answered, stretching slowly. "Uhh, I'm not ready to leave just yet."
I shot a glance at him. He was now lying on the couch, and his shirt was riding on his hips, making his tummy and bottom hair visible. I had to look away to stop the urge to jump on him. Oh god, he was so hot...
"Do you know where we can eat after?" Mikey asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Yep, I know this bar that serves at night. I think they have fajitas," he said, winking at Ray.
"I'm gonna change," I sighed, trying to find an excuse to get away from Gee.
I was perfectly fine with what I was wearing, and I wasn't even sure if I had anything clean to wear, but I wasn't thinking about that at the time. I was so ashamed of myself. Thinking about boys that way. Thinking about my best friend that way. But I just couldn't help it. Of course I was interested in girls too. I had tons of dirty magazines like every straight boy. But there was something about guys, something about Gee girls didn't have. I shook my head, trying to shake off the thoughts also. This was just wrong. But it was a simple crush and it would go away as fast as it came. I hoped. I waited until it was six before I came back down. No one asked why I was still wearing the same thing, they'd probably forgotten the reason I had left. I sat down again and tried to listen to Matt talk about Washington but I was too disturbed by my thoughts. I found myself looking over to Gee who didn't seem to be listening either. He saw me staring at him and pushed his tongue against his cheek then laughed and looked away. You sexy motherfucker. I gazed down at my feet, blinking away the sweat dripping into my eyes. Oh god, I wanted him.
"Ready to go?" asked Matt, waking me up.
They all said sure and we were out the door in no minute.
"So? Does Frank go in the trunk or what?" Gee asked teasingly.
"Or on you lap," Mikey answered with a snicker.
Gerard just rolled his eyes and opened the back door of the car to look inside.
"Ah guess you're lucky Frankie. There's room for three in the back." He slapped my shoulder and went to sit down in his seat.
And then we were on our way. We were just barely two hours away from the concert. The drive was not long, we found ways to keep ourselves occupied. We'd all try to sing sometimes, only to get severely judged by Gee. I felt good. I felt warm. I was with my band. When we got to the place where they were playing, it was around seven thirty. I sighed into the early summer air. There were a lot of cars parked around us and a lot of people standing in front of the bar saying Band Night!. I couldn't wait to see them. I loved that band a lot, and I think Gee and Mikey liked them too. They were sorta our inspiration at first. Maybe if ever we got famous we could tour with them. Maybe even compose with them. Gee pulled me out of my dreams by pushing me closer to the rest of the band.
"Careful, kid. Gonna get yourself lost," Matt laughed.
We stepped in line and waited for the door to open up. I looked around. They were about maybe eighty people, if not less, and most of them were wearing Dookie tshirts or just plain black tshirts with Green Day painted on them. I looked down at my own shirt. Nothing splendid, just a black shirt with white scorpions on it. I sighed. Oh well. Gee came closer to me and softly applied eyeliner around my eye and eyelids before I could protest.
"You forgot your makeup princess," he giggled. His own eyes were circled with black and he had drawn a red scar coming from the corner of his mouth. I let him do. I didn't mind. Soon the door opened and everyone ran inside. We, whatsoever, went calmly in along with a few others and sat down at a close enough table. The stage was dark and there was still background music playing. I got up to get some beers and Matt came with me.
