A New Way is on the Way

I was crying now while Frank looked scared in his eyes. Mae woke up and was starting to cry, Frank rocked her but looked frantic to the doctors.

“What’s happening to him?” Frank asked.

“I have no idea,” Dr. Toro said and came back to me and re-spread my legs. He put his hands back to my birth canal and when he pulled his hand back and it was covered in blood.

Both Frank and I looked at the doctor in shock, the only thing making me tear my eyes away from his hand was the ripping pain going through my body making me cry out in pain. Every time I cried out in pain Mae cried out as well. A nurse came by and took our girl from Frank’s hands and left the room with her, as soon as she was out of Frank hands, Frank came rushing to my side and held my hand.

“Everything is gonna be okay Mikey.” Frank whispered to me and kissed my head, I could see tears falling from his eyes.

“What is happening to me!?” I asked Dr. Toro.

“We don’t know.” He pulled away from me and came over to my bedside and started to mess around with the railings. “I think your womb may have ruptured as the baby was coming out, but I can’t tell for sure without going in there. We need to take you to an emergency surgery.”

He told me as a nurse put a tube over my mouth. I had no idea what it was or what they were doing and I was freaking out. I desperately clung on to Frankie’s arms while I was crying

“You’re gonna be okay.” Frank told me, I would have believed him if his voice hadn’t cracked or if there weren’t any tears on his face.
The doctors and nurses started to push me into the operating room but stopped when Frank wouldn’t let go of my hand.

“Mr. Iero, were sorry but you cannot be with Mikey while we operate on him.” Dr. Toro told Frank.

“Like hell I’m not gonna be with him.” Frank said defensively.

“Mr. Iero.” Dr. Toro boomed, “Mikey is going to have to be awake in the surgery and we cannot have him distracted by your presents, we are wasting time while here!”

Frank looked helpless and speechless by my side, but he didn’t leave.

“Frank,” I spoke up and everyone looked at me, “I’ll be fine, tell Gerard and my parents, just…. Don’t leave Mae alone to long.” I told him.

Tears were falling down his face hard but he nodded and let go of my hand. As soon as he backed up, the doctors rushed me to the nearest O.R, because no one expedited this to happen, we were in a normal delivery room and my family was waiting outside the room for me and the baby to make an appearance. I saw Gerard’s smiling face as the doctors pushed my bed out of the room but his smile instantly dropped when they rushed me in the opposite direction.

“MIKEY!” He yelled and tried to come my side but I saw Frank forcibly stop him from coming any closer.

I cried the entire way to the O.R, a few of the nurses gave me looks of sympathy and I completely understand. I just had a baby and I barely got to hold her and now I might die, what great luck I have there.

“I need you to take deep breathes.” One of the nurses said as she placed a tube over my mouth a nose.

I did what I was told to do and I started to feel weird. I was still awake but kinda out of it. I was completely clam and no more tears were leaking from my eyes, god did it feel good A blue sheet was put up on my chest so I couldn’t see my still noticeably large bump. Dr. Toro took his place by my belly and took a sharp tool and brought it to my stomach, or at least I think it was my stomach, I couldn’t see it. After a while, I heard Dr. Toro laugh and so did a few other nurses.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“Well, nothing ruptured in here, the womb did tear a bit, but everything is more than great.”

“How so?” I asked.

“The womb did have a small tear because of the lack of room.”

“Lack of room? Mae was only 5 pounds, how was there no room?”

Dr. Toro chuckled and kept working for a bit then I heard a baby cry coming from behind the curtain that was blocking my veiw. “Because there was another baby in here.” He explained.
