Runaway Scars and The Getaway Mile

Chapter 9: Anytime You Want

~~~
I stood there for a moment, letting what I'd said fully absorb into my brain that now switched to its lowest possible operating speed.
It took nearly a fully minute for me to realised what I'd done and once I did my cheeks had gone crimson and I felt like I was going to die.
Please just let the floor swallow me up so I don't have to deal with the humiliation that's I'm going to be getting from the whole group after what I said.
Why did my drunk brain have to kick in now of all times? Didn't it realise that it could have said much wittier things to Revolver without having to bring up Party?
No my brain would just rather see me suffer the consequences of my stupid mouth that wouldn't stay shut when it needed to.
I'm going to get myself killed by that or something even worse not that I can think of anything worse than death.
The crowd had gone back to what they were doing before the fight started and some people helped Revolver up, only to quickly get him far away from me.
Then there was the guy who'd put a ray gun to the back of my head mid confrontation who'd run away by the looks of it.
Ghoul had disappeared off to hang out with Kobra who was also gone and Jet was now sitting at the bar but out of earshot.
The only people still there were Sunshine and Party, she looked like she felt even more awkward than me and Party was frowning ever so slightly.
I was trying to decide what I should say to him, there were all these times when I'd have so much to say and would always have a response to everything.
Now I couldn't string two words together if I tried and the look on Party's face wasn't helping.
"Um." I tried to think of something I could say to him but he had a smirk that made me unsure of myself, like there'd be a right or wrong answer on what I could say next.
"Sorry?" I don't think I said the right thing, I just felt like I might have insulted him by saying he was crazy.
"Sorry? You shouldn't be sorry, what you did was fucking awesome. Aren't you gonna brag about it?" Well after what I said I didn't really consider it a time for bragging.
Anyway the only thing that my mind really allowed me to think of was flat out telling him I liked him which would take a lot of guts to do.
Guts I didn't have right now.
"Give her a minute, Party. She's drunk remember?" Sunshine added to the conversation and I gave her a grateful smile.
I was feeling a bit more sober than I was ten minutes ago but I wasn't telling Party that.
"How on earth is she drunk? I gave her one slam chaser and that was it." Party was looking at me as if he'd be able to guess what I'd been drinking and how much by a simple stare, it wasn't working.
"Someone gave her some cyanide comas." Sunshine said and she did a good job of leaving herself out of it.
"Someone? You mean you." Party sighed and I was surprised by how easily he'd been able to tell it was Sunshine, then again she wasn't putting much effort into the lie.
"Yeah, pretty much." She started picking her nails and I saw the look on Party's face, a mixture between upset and annoyed.
"She's never drunk before and you decide to give her those? Especially after I gave her a slam chaser, she's lucky she can stand upright." Party kept gesturing to me and I noticed while he was talking that he had yet to pick up his ray gun.
I put my blaster in its holster before leaning down and grabbing his zap from the ground so he wouldn't leave it here although I highly doubted he'd leave something that important.
"Well she's tougher than you, between the two of us we almost poisoned her yet she still managed to save your sorry butt." She had obviously taken offence to what he'd said and I handed him his ray gun which he took from me before putting it away.
"I know and I said thank you. It was nice to see Revolver get his ass kicked, especially by a girl. I've been wanting to shoot him for ages but I can't." I grinned when he thanked me but was bit confused when he said he couldn't shoot him.
"Why not?" He'd definitely have his reasons and I wanted to know those reasons.
"He's the leader of Zone 13, leaders of Zones can't hurt each other no matter how much they want to." Well that sounds stupid, what if the one of them is a douchebag?
Oh yeah one of them was.
"But why would Revolver put a beamer to your head when he's not allowed to hurt you?" I asked him, having to interrupt my sentence halfway through so I could yawn.
I have no idea what time it was right now but I was tired and I wanted to go to sleep, especially with the alcohol helping to make me drowsy.
"In case you haven't noticed Revolver isn't one to play by the rules and he loves to show off. If you didn't stop him there's no doubt in my mind that he would have dusted me." That guy sounds like one of the biggest assholes ever except it'd be the drac who cheated when I called time out who took the cake.
"Well it's nice to witness one of your tiny 'fights' firsthand." I said, making air quotes at 'fight' just like Ghoul did earlier on today.
"Things can get much more out of hand than that, actually they have." I don't know how things can get worse than him being pinned against the bar with the possibility of getting ghosted by another Killjoy at any moment.
The lines between right and wrong, good and bad are so blurred here.
I was glad the situation had steered away from that confrontation though, I wasn't feeling so awkward, 'floor please swallow me' now so I was in a better mood.
"What was there a huge game of 'let's play tag with a drac' or was there a huge Zone against Zone battle?" What I was saying sounded ridicules but I wasn't in the mood for sense and seriousness right now, I've had way to much of that for one day.
"Okay I will admit that, that was pretty bad." He spoke with a thoughtful expression on his face and in my exhausted state I wandered over to one of the bar stools and sat down.
"Electric are you okay?" He asked me when I started yawning my head off, so much that my jaw hurt.
"Yeah I'm fine, I'm just tired." I yawned again and contemplated falling asleep on the bar.
It wouldn't be comfortable but I don't think it would matter after me having my head the bar for a few seconds.
"You need to get some sleep, I'm gonna take you back to the camp." He told me with a no nonsense voice and I couldn't find it in me to disagree when I was yawning so much.
I simply nodded and rested my head in my palm while he stood there looking at absolutely nothing for a moment.
"Sunshine can you stay here with her while I round up the guys? I don't want to risk wave heads coming near her." It was very sweet of Party to think of that and it put a smile on my face as he joined the crowd and disappeared.
"You really Houdinied yourself out of that one didn't you?" Sunshine said, sitting on the stool next to me and crossing her legs.
"No I didn't. You bringing up that I was drunk got me out of it. Thanks." I was being genuinely grateful, I couldn't deal with telling Party I really liked him at the moment.
"It's no problem. You should talk to him about it in the morning though. Also do you know what was up with that song playing?" I shook my head, I'd been meaning to ask Party about it but when I started talking we got interrupted by Neon Kiss.
But I wanna know what's going on with it badly, Party's voice sounds the exact same as the singers and I wanted to know if that was his song.
Where would Party record music like that though? Dr. D's of course, ah so that's what they must have been doing when they were talking to him.
That also means that at least two of them are able to play the guitar, it sounded like there was a bass in there too so one of them can play bass and someone had to have done the drums.
Damn they would have needed to write the lyrics as well.
My brain hurts just thinking of all of this.
"Well it's Party, that's for sure. I've heard him sing a few times but he doesn't do it much." The person singing the song sounded like they practiced a lot or were just naturally gifted singers.
"When have you heard him sing?" There wasn't much of a time and place for singing around here and from what I've seen they're always busy with one thing or another.
"In the shower, you can walk past and you'll easily be able to hear him singing at the top of his lungs." It was interesting finding that out but in the back of my mind the hygiene freak in me was screaming 'thank god they have showers!'
I felt a bit grotty and the thought of there being a shower somewhere in the Zones made me happy even though I was getting tireder and tireder.
"You should get some sleep until Party comes back, it could take a while. Besides you're tired and you need it." I couldn't agree more, I wanted to sleep forever.
I crossed my arms on the bar then put my head down, just as I'd suspected it was uncomfortable but it was better than forcing my eyes to stay open.
Thank god for my ability to sleep anywhere.
~~~

"Come on, Sugar. We're leaving now." Party shook me and I groaned, I didn't want to move, the bar was comfortable enough for me to sleep on.

"No you're not staying on the counter, you need to get into the car." He can try all he wants but there's no chance he'll be getting me to walk anywhere right now.

Party tried putting an arm around my waist so I'd stand up but I didn't move an inch. I may be small but I was strong as an ox when determined enough.

"Just let me stay here. I'll be fine." I mumbled and I heard someone laughing in the background, it was Ghoul of course.

"Alright, we'll be leaving then. Bye." Party said, suggesting that he was planning to walk off and actually leave me here.

"No." I hooked one of my fingers through he loop on his jeans and stopped him from going anywhere which caused him to chuckle.

"Okay a compromise then, stand up and I promise you won't have to walk." I sighed like this was the most epic thing I'd ever do, which it was, then while still holding onto the loop on his jeans, pulled myself up.

I swear I was so tired right now Party's lucky I haven't fallen onto him immediately after standing up.

"So how's this supposed to get me to the car?" I asked, almost being rudely interrupted by a yawn.

I couldn't tell exactly what was going on with my eyes still closed but the next moment I felt Party move and then the ground disappeared.

Party Poison had picked me up in his arms to stop me from having to walk and it put a smile on my face.

"We can go now." Party told them and I leant my head against his chest, I was so tired.

"Come on, Ghoul." I heard Sunshine mutter and I opened my eyes for long enough to see him with his arm around her, somehow looking drunker than he did the last time I saw him.

Party started walking and I felt my legs brush past people as he carried me. This can't be easy for him, he had to push through a crowd and not drop me at the same time, it'd take some effort.

Then everything had to be ruined by a familiar voice that I really didn't like the sound of.

"Party wait! Aren't you going to stay here and dance with me?" It was Neon Kiss, the droid who he'd briefly talked with earlier.

"What are you doing with that girl? Why aren't you gonna stay here and party with me? I thought you liked me." For a robot she had a very annoying voice and was nothing like Sunshine.

As far as I was concerned Sunshine Throttle was a human who just happened to look slightly different.

"You're my man, not some newbie Killjoys." She was whiny, very whiny and it hurt my ears a little plus I didn't like being called a newbie Killjoy.

"Neon I told you, we aren't anything and weren't anything. Now I'm going to take Electric back to camp so have a nice night." He was being rather polite to her even though he didn't have to which I appreciated because its gotta be hard to tolerate someone who sounds that annoying.

I felt a hand next to my head and Party tensed up a little.

"But, Party!" I wonder if she practised her whiny sounds into a tape recorder then played them back so she could perfect them.

"Go away robo slut." I muttered angrily at her, I could tell she was making Party upset and I didn't like it.

"Excuse me?" Great now she was gonna start talking to me although I did bring it upon myself, I knew that.

"She said 'go away robo slut' and I second her thoughts. I'm leaving now Neon, goodbye." He told her firmly and a smile came to my face as he shrugged her hand off.

Party started walking again and I continued to smile. I kinda felt like I'd won some competition between Neon and I.

He'd stopped dancing with me to talk to her and I felt upset that he left me to talk to her. I'd felt like she'd won some some game of who Party cares about more but now it was night and we were leaving the club and I was the one who one he left with because she got dissed in the end.

There was the feeling of something cold spilling onto me and I flinched when I felt liquid pouring onto my jacket and soaking through into my shirt.

Party swore under his breath and sighed, someone must have spilt their drink on us and I got the feeling it got onto him as well.

"Sunshine's got a shower at her place, you can use that in the morning." He said quietly and I actually got excited at the thought of a shower.

The club door opened and I opened my eyes for a moment, just to get one last glimpse around before we left.
One of the black lights caught my hand and turned the back of my hand that Sapphire had stamped a glowing blue.

So that's why I couldn't see the stamp before, I feel like I've solved some great mystery.

We walked into the night air and I took a deep breath, enjoying the fresh air as opposed to the sweaty and stale smell the club.

With some serious effort we all managed to squish into the car.
Party, Jet and I in the back which was comfortable before Kobra had to get into the back as well.

Sunshine was driving because everyone was too intoxicated to drive and Party knew how scared I got when he drove.

Now it was the two lovebirds(?) sitting in the front, Ghoul and Sunshine, I had yet to know about her driving skills but she had to at least be okay.

With four people sitting in the back instead of the usual three I was forced, (well not really) to sit on Party's lap which didn't actually matter much to me because I was too tired to think anything.

Not necessarily too tired to say anything though.

"Thanks for not throwing me over your shoulder, Party." I mumbled to him before leaning my head on his chest once more, then drifted off to the humming of the trans ams motor.
