MIKEYS POV

Trust me to forget to bring extra clothes. This fucking sucks, there I had been trying to convince Gerard today would be good and here I am standing in the middle of the gym hall wearing a pair of dirty, old shorts and some unwashed vest. Even though it was my first day my teacher didn't let me sit out, he had sent me to the lost property box to pick out stuff to wear. I could smell the stench of old sweat coming from me, it was vile. We were meant to be playing basketball but I sucked, plus nobody would pass to me or even go near me. I didnt know if it was because they didn't know me, or because of the smell I was giving off. The teacher didn't care at all, infact he didn't care much for the class, he just sat in the corner reading through some books not paying attention to what was going on around him.

"Bob, Bob! God sake Bob, pass the ball over im free!" A boy who sported a fro called to a larger boy who seemed to be ignoring him.

"If you want the ball you have to put SOME effort in Ray." he called back. The boy called Ray sighed and dropped his arms by his side. I looked back over to Bob, he smiled at me. "Here, catch" he shouted over and before I knew it I felt a smack across my face. "SHIT!" he gulped, "I didn't mean that, dude..are you alright?"

I looked over at him "It's fine, I'm not very good with my hand eye co-ordination as it is, but i suck without my glasses." I laughed trying to show I was okay.

"Aaw look, the fatty is trying to be nice to the new kid, aaaw. Trying to actually get friends, Bob?" A well built boy called over and picked up the ball that was lying next to me.

"Fuck off." I said trying to sound confident. He had no right saying that to him.

"What the fuck are you going to do about it? Look at you, do you not have any money to buy yourself some clothes? Hmm? You're a fucking state, and you're in my school now so what I say goes" he spat on my face. I clenched my fist, I wasn't taking that, I raised my fist but before I could punch him right in that smug little face of his the teacher had walked over and came in between us.

"Mikey, I know you're new here but we do not fight in school and this behavior is just not acceptable. Josh here is one of our best students and is in fact going to go very far in his sports career, unlike some I can tell." I felt the anger boil inside me, I didn't even like sports and this Josh was a fucking dick.

"Sorry sir," Josh said trying to sound innocent, "I had only walked over when Bob here had hit him in the face, I was checking if he was okay, he must have thought I was being sarcastic." The teacher looked at me as did Josh with a sly grin on his face.

"Right Mikey, you've been given a fair warning, just go get changed and I think we'll leave it at that, in fact everyone better head to the changing rooms since that's us almost done." I sighed and headed out of the hall.

"Mikey? Thats your name, right?" Bob had ran over to me.

"Yeah, why did you let that guy talk to you like that?" I replied.

"Josh is not one to mess with, I know it sounds silly but you really dont want to get on the wrong side of him." Bob explained.

"Yeah, hes a tough character" added his friend who had now joined us, "I'm Ray" he introduced himself. "So why did you move to New Jersey?" he asked.

"I used to live here, me and my brother, Gerard, moved when we had some", I thought hard on what to say, "problems", i continued, "at home and we went to live with our Gran." I sighed as I thought of her, she had been the most important person to me, to Gerard, aswell. "She passed away during the summer so we had to move back in with our mum over here." I told them.

"God, im so sorry to hear that, I shouldn't have asked" Ray said. I could see he felt bad.

"It's fine, She's in a better place now" I sighed.a

"So how did she.."Bob began to speak but he was drawn to an abrupt halt when Ray elbowed him in the stomach.

"Leave it." he hissed at him, "Anyway, we all need to get changed!" he said with a wink trying to lift the mood.

"What are we waiting for then!" added Bob putting his arm around Ray.

I just smiled at them both.
