FRANKS POV
I lay in my bed staring at the ceiling. I wasn't aware of the time but I knew it was late as both my parents were in their bed and it was dark outside. I couldn't stop thinking about Gerard. He had said it wasn't my fault so I just had kept repeating his words in my head in attempt to fall asleep but it didn't help. I just kept seeing Gerard in that bad state he was.
I heard someone walk by my room and into the bathroom. I sat upright in my bed switching on the lamp on my bedside to hear them return.
"Frank sweetie, are you still up?" My mother called from behind the door. She must have seen the light from my lamp escaping from the gaps in the door.
"No!" I groaned quickly turning the lamp off again and pulling the covers over me. I groaned as I realized how stupid I was.
Slowly my door creaked open and in walked my concerned mother.
"What's wrong, Hunny?" She asked sympathetically as she switched on the light.
"Nothing." I said looking up to her faking a smile. She didn't fall for it. Instead she sighed and sat herself at the edge of my bed.
"But Frank, It's midnight and you're still awake." She sighed.
"I just can't sleep" I shrugged my shoulders at her.
"You know, whatever it really is thats bothering you would probably dissapear if you talked about it" She said.
I sighed at her sat myself up again.
"It's just, I'm worried about someone." I told her. She smiled back at me.
"Oh dear Frank, You're so caring for others," she said as she ruffled my hair,
"What's happened?" She asked.
"Well, my friend Gerard," I began to tell her and she listened intently, "there's this other boy at school who keeps hurting him."
"Oh." She sighed
"It's not just some punches here and there though Mum, You should have seen Gerard today, He was so scared he wouldn't even let me approach him after it." I said as tears began to roll down my eyes.
Mum pulled me into her arms and began rubbing my back to soothe me. "You obviously really care about this Jared." She said.
"Gerard" I corrected her rubbing my eyes.
"You should be comforted yourself knowing that he has you as a friend," She continued, "It sounds like he needs some friends."
"He has me, bob, ray and his own brother Mikey. We're like a big group now Mum." I said back.
"There you go then. If you all stick together I'm sure this boy can't touch Jar...I mean Gerard."
I wasn't going to tell her how I had left him on his own but I wasn't going to let that happen again. Mum was right, why would he touch any of us infact if it was five against one.
"Thanks Mum" I said smiling at her. I loved how close we were.
"Can I ask you something?" she said looking at me curiously.
"Yeah?" I replied worried about what it was.
"Well, it's just that you've never mentioned Gerard before," finally she got his name right, "and you haven't been so worried over someone else like this before?" She paused hoping I would get what she was on about.
Shit. Maybe we were too close.
"I knew it!" She said smiling. "You're blushing!" Oh fuck.
"So does he know you like him?" She asked grinning. She obviously didn't mind the fact I liked a boy, this made me feel even better.
"Mum, We're dating...."
She didn't say anything at first obviously a little shocked but when she finally spoke I was so happy with what I heard.
"Well you need to get him over sometime, sweetie." She said as she kissed me on the forehead. I just smiled at her, thankfull of how supportive she was being, and how easy this had been.
"Now you better try and get some sleep." She said as she stood up.
"Night!" I said cuddling into my covers.
"Night, Frank" She smiled as she switched off the light and shut the door behind her.
Once I had realized the sooner I fell asleep the sooner I would see Gerard I quickly drifted off.
