Gerards POV
“Hey Hel, you’re at mine and Mikey’s place. You were passed out at the graveyard last night, do you remember?”
She nodded her head looking into my worried eyes and then started looking around my room slowly, as if she was looking at every little thing in detail. I felt exposed.
She looked back up at me and said “thank you” then she sat up and said worriedly “I really should go, I mean I still have to get ready for school and find a place to stay and” I cut her off
“Its 5 in the morning relax, I have phoned the school and Mikey is going to stay off with you. So relax you’re not going to school. Unfortunately I'm going to have to tell the principle your story and hopefully then you can stay here instead of some care facility.”
She sighed and laid back down and whispered “I don’t want anyone to know”
I stroked her head slowly; she looked so cute and vulnerable. What the hell? Stop thinking that
“I know you don’t, I won’t tell him all of it, just that you got kicked out for unknown reasons and I found you frozen and passed out by your father’s gravestone? Is that okay?”
“and Josh’s, everyone always forgets that he died to!” a single tear rolled down her cheek and I wiped it away.
“Okay and Josh’s, it will all get sorted Helena. Do you want me to mention that you’re safe to Heidi and Callum as well?”
“Yes please” she looked at me eyes wide and I could see that she was grateful.
“Alright, well I have to go. Mikey’s in the lounge, feel free to look around” with that I got up and walked to the door.
“Mr Way” her nervous voice stopped me in my tracks and I turned around “thank you again”
“You’re welcome “ I gave her a knowing smile and walked out the house, picking up my briefcase and telling Mikey to take care of her as I left.
Helena’s POV
I looked around the room once more, looking at the art work hanging on the wall, he really was talented.
I got up and studied one piece that caught my attention the most, it looks like a girl dying but looking rather pleased about it.
Then it hit me, she is committing suicide and I had seen this girl before. Then a voice shook me out of my thoughts.
“Morbid isn’t it” Mikey! Being his usual jokey self.
“Just a bit” I smiled at him, showing that I understand his humour.
“Come on, you must be starving, come into the kitchen I will cook you something.
“You cook” I laughed for real this time but followed him nether the less
He ‘cooked’ me some cereal, since that’s all he could make and we talked about nothing in particular, him knowing that I didn’t really want to talk about last night.
Then I asked him a question that’s been bugging me
“Who was that girl in the picture?”
He looked at me and looked down
“You don’t have to tell me” I said, sensing his unwillingness
“No I might as well, the whole world knows who she is anyway, and you seem to recognise her. I’d rather you ask me than Gerard”
I nodded my head confused about why I couldn’t asked Gerard
“She was Gerard’s best friend all through art school and his English studies. They were in all the same classes and the best of friends.
He loved her like a sister and a couple of years ago, well five to be exact. She killed herself, she couldn’t deal anymore. She had abusive parents, he boyfriend left her and she lost her job and house in the same week.
And Gerard I guess hasn’t grieved he didn’t cry he shut everything out. And painted her, that’s one of the better ones less morbid.”
I remember now, she was all over the news, her parents were put in jail, I rember being young and my dad switching the TV off. But the story interested me as to how someone hated life so much and when he left the room, turned the TV on.
That was ages ago and I obviously now understand how you could hate life so much.
I looked back up at Mikey who was staring at me intensely
“I'm sorry, I guess you knew her too.”
He looked at me in surprise “No ones ever thought of my feelings of this before. Thank you”
I looked at him and smiled sadly. He got up and I followed him into the lounge and it was there that we just talked and talked with the tv on in the background.
At lunchtime the phone rang. It must have been Gerard.
Mikey answered it and went into the other room. I hated when people spoke about me.
He came back in and smiled at me. But not in a happy way.
“You can stay here, he principle said it was okay considering you are my friend.”
“that’s great” I said smiling. Then I looked at his expression “What's the bad news?” I asked frowning
“You have to go and speak with the principle tomorrow so he can check you actually want to and feel comfortable being there”
“But the principle hates me, omg this is horrible. I will go obviously but what if he isn’t convinced, I mean he can ask anyone in my English class and they will say I'm not exactly warming to ‘Mr Way’”
“Yeah I heard about that, but you can say that’s before he helped you?”
“Yeah okay, I'm sure it will all work out” I looked down thinking of anything that the principle could say no to as I really don’t want to end up in care and well Gerard is being so nice to be, he is so warm and smells good. As I was looking down I finally realised I wasn’t in my clothes
“Hey, mikes. Who’s clothes am I in?”
He looked at me sheepishly “uh they’re Gerard’s pyjamas. We got you changed so you wouldn’t freeze to death and stuff. Don’t worry though, we didn’t see anything inappropriate.”
“Oh okay” Damn Gerard smells good. Shit did I just say that?
I looked up at Mikey. Thank god I guess I didn’t.
We resumed at watching TV and Gerard came home and gave me all the information of what happened gave me a note from Heidi, which I will read later and finally gave me my homework. Great.
We then had dinner and I was knackered so I went to bed in Gerard’s bed again.
His bed made me feel safe and warm for some reason.
