7 reasons
"Hey there Mikey..." Vince grins at me, his eyes swimming with colours that burned in the darkness, "fancy meeting you here. What do you want from me?"
"I want you to kill me!" I yell, "I want to die! I want to see my brother and my mum and my dad!"
"Well, I can sort that out for you just fine..." He smiles back at me.
Now you may be thinking: 'woah! Mikey! What the hell are you playing at!'
Let me give you a quick run down of seven reasons why:
1. My brother is dead and I'm never going to see him again.
2. My mum and dad are also dead.
3. The rest of my extended family are dead.
4. I am in the middle of nowhere eating pot noodles for a living.
5. I accidentally killed 5 people.
6. Having no family or friends isn't fun.
7. I'm going to die anyway so why don't I just hurry up and stop taking up so much room and wasting all this oxygen.
"So...Mikey...." Continued Vince, he took his hat off and placed it on my head. It slipped down over my eyes as it was a little too big so I tipped it backwards and looked up towards the figure stood confidently in front of me. His blond hair shone brightly in the damp corridor and he swept it from his eyes and shoved a hand casually in his pockets. He leaned against the door frame, twirling the knife between his fingers.
The blade glistened in the light, almost smiling at me and waiting. Sitting and waiting.
"Why do you want to die?" He asked me, his eyebrow slightly raised.
"Because I want to be with my family." I mumbled, shuffling my feet nervously.
"Okay, I see that that is a fair reason to want to die, the guys in our gang are like a family to me; I don't know what I'd do if I lost them."
"Ahem..." JJ coughed from behind me. He stepped forward and placed a hand on my shoulder, nudging me out of the way slightly.
"Well hello there old friend..." Vince smiled, offering his hand out to JJ.
"I'm not your friend." JJ stated, refusing the hand shake and keeping his face stern.
"How's life been so far?" Asked Vince, "lonely?" He mocked.
"You know! I hate your guts so much Vince! And I hate everyone in that stupid murderous gang of yours! What gave you the right to tear up and slaughter such innocent people!"
"Hm." Vince sighed, "not too sure."
"Have you heard from any of your so called gang recently?" JJ asked, his voice smug and confident this time.
"Not really." Vince sighed, "we thought we'd killed Mikey so we had a little holiday away from it all."
"Please! Shut up!" I cried, interrupting their conversation. "Just shut the fuck up with your obsolete chit-chat and let me see my brother!"
"Of course sir." Vince replied, the knife now held firmly in his hand.
My breathing was heavy and sharp, my eyes becoming hot and blurred with tears and my hands shaking lightly. He shuffled towards me, pulling his hat over my eyes so that darkness consumed me.
"You sure Mikey?" He asked.
I nodded, a knot tying itself in my stomach. I stood waiting, listening as the fabric of his suit rustling in front of me. Vince's warm breath splattered onto my face as I held mine. I felt the edge of the knife against my t-shirt, and then against the skin of my stomach.
I opened my eyes, expecting to see my brother running towards me with my parents standing behind him. Instead I saw Vince laid face down on the floor with a small trickle of blood making its way across the rotting wooden floorboards. JJ stood above, his fist slightly bruising with the knife stuck between his foot and the floor.
"JJ! What the fuck?" I shouted angrily, at him.
"I'm not letting my best friend die!" He replied calmly, "I can't let you die too..." He reached down and found Vince's car keys in his pocket.
"Now let's go..." He grabbed me by my jacket sleeve and tried to pull me past the squirming Vince on the floor.
"Mikey...come on...." He pleaded with me but I stayed rooted to the spot. He gave up, throwing me over his shoulder like he was a fireman and then he marched out of the door carrying me.
"And by the way Vince," he called back into the house, "your entire gang is dead!"
He headed down the old beaten path away from the ruins of the house. He swung open the door of Vince's black Ferrari and despite my struggles he placed me into the passenger seat before he climbed in next to me and started the rumbling engine.
"Where are we going?" I asked through my weak voice.
"You'll see...' JJ muttered, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly, "you'll see."
