If You Marry Me, Would You... (Frerard)

Chapter 4

Gerard was sitting in front of his desk drawing.

From time to time he would take a quick glance at the sleeping figure on his bed. Frank was too deep asleep to notice Gerard slipping out of bed after failed attempts of falling asleep.

So he just sat at his desk, opened his sketch book in the page where he started a meadow and kept drawing.

Frankly, he couldn't fall asleep because of that feeling. That feeling that bugged him so much and just wouldn't go away.

He knew what it was, and he knew it very well. That irritating sting in his head, telling him that Michael was close.

'Of course,' he knew, 'of course he wasn't just looking for a random human to bite. He wanted me to get into this mess because he knew I would. Shit. Until I finally got rid of him, he just wouldn't let me go. Why couldn't he just forget?'

Gerard sighed quietly to himself and kept moving the colorful pencil around on the paper, adding more curves and shades into the picture.

But his mind kept getting distracted by his brother. Dammit, the stinging only got stronger and stronger as the minutes passed. If Michael wanted to fucking talk, why couldn't he just man up and get it over with?

The pain grew worse suddenly, causing Gerard to bang his head on the desk, maybe too loudly, but still not enough to wake Frank.

And then it was gone. The pain was gone, the irritation was gone, and all that was left was the soft brush of wind coming from the open window.

Gerard slowly raised his head, and decided he had had enough of this. He should just go to sleep and try not to think about Michael for once.

But just as he went to close the small window, a piece of paper caught his attention. It was rested on the windowsill peacefully, and Gerard took it with a hesitant hand.

Meet me at 2a.m. in the alley.

Gerard didn't even need a moment to wonder who this note was from. The answer was clear in his mind, and he knew he had to go.

He looked at his small watch, the one he left on the nightstand before he went to bed. 1:49. He still had some time. The alley wasn't too far away.

He put on his shoes and jacket, and suddenly turned his attention to his bed. Slowly, he went to the boy, who was tucked up under the covers, finding comfort in their heat.

The boy was a quiet sleeper. He didn't snort or make other noises. He seemed peaceful.
His face was glowing in the moonlight, and Gerard was more than a little stunned to see how it curved each of his featured perfectly.

Before he knew it, he reached forward, and gently moved a strand of hair out of Frank's face. The younger pressed a little into the touch, and Gerard smiled softly at the image before leaving the room and getting out of the house, making sure to lock the door behind him. Who knows what could happen to Frank?

xoxoxoxo

Gerard stood in the dark alley, leaning against the grey brick wall and breathing in the winter night. The cold didn't bother him at all. What he was worried about was the upcoming meeting with his brother.

Not that Gerard was scared of him. No, he wasn't afraid of Michael. It was just the possibilities of what the man might do that hung in his mind. The younger man had gone crazy and gained so much power since...

Gerard shook his head. No. He couldn't let THIS get back into his mind. He couldn't, and never will. It was too much.

And then, he heard the sound of wings. It hurt him, because there was only one person these wings could belong to, and that person knew exactly what it did to Gerard.

The figure landed outside the alley, and then it was walking towards the elder. He kept his back to the wall, waiting for the other man to step into the dull light from the lamp above him.

And then he finally saw him. The person Gerard was so sick of. It was him.

His face glowed in the light. It shone in a way Gerard couldn't tolerate, because he knew how dark that person's soul actually was. His hazel eyes that matched Gerard's, his pointy nose, his rough jawline, his smooth skin. It all made sense. It all built the pieces of the man that stood in front of him, ready to strike.

"Glad you could make it, Gerard," he said in his cold voice. Gerard glared at his calm face. He wasn't calm. Gerard knew it all too well. His brother was a ticking time bomb that could explode in his face any moment.

"You are so shallow Michael. Really? Getting me to protect a human so you can hurt me?" Gerard exclaimed. He didn't have time for stupid teasing and hints. They needed to talk, and they will.

"Oh so you did protect him eventually." Michael's smirk was more than obvious, even in the weak light of the alley.

"You knew I will, you bastard. You knew I wouldn't let anyone get hurt again."

"Funny to hear this from you, you know? Because last time I checked, you screwed up protecting everyone you knew!"

"Shut up Michael! We are not talking about this right now! Not now, not ever! Now what do you want from Frank?!"

"Frank? So the human has a name now. I didn't know you could bond with people so easily."

"What do you want Michael?"

"Oh, what do I want?" Michael's smirk grew. "Well, let's see..." he stepped closer to his brother, which only backed away from him cautiously. "What do I want..." he kept pretending to be thinking as he beckoned the other man against the wall. He stepped even closer, Gerard's death glares not startling him for a second. He pressed his chest to his brother's, their faces so close now, it made the elder shudder.

'No. It's just Michael. You're not afraid. Get over yourself, Gerard!'

Michael's face hardened suddenly, like a flick of a switch. He wasn't the cheeky fucker anymore, he was the dangerous psychopath murderous Michael Gerard only first saw that night. That night when...

No.

Michael now had a cold expression on his dead face. His sharp jaw in a strict hard line, his teeth gritted and his chest pressing harder against the elder's. "I want to hurt you, Gerard," he whispered.

And it burnt.

"I want to hurt you so fucking much," the younger continued, "I wanna stick the knife and twist it, make you feel the pain I felt when it happened."

"No. Don't bring it up. We said we'll never bring it up."

"Oh, I'm not bringing it up. It's already in your brain, Gerard. You can see it as if it happened yesterday. Because the scars stay the same. They're still there, aren't they? Attacking you every day, devouring you, burning you, torturing you."

The words were like daggers in Gerard's soul. He couldn't handle this, he just couldn't.

Michael didn't stop though. He never stopped.

"Oh, but you don't feel them as much as I do. I feel the scar a lot more than you do Gerard, I live the scar, I breathe it. I HAVE A SCAR!"

Michael was yelling now.

"Yes, I have the fucking scar, Gerard! You know where it is, you know how bad it is, you know EXACTLY where I've been hurt!"

His voice got quiet again.

"You think you got scarred that night but you haven't seen a thing. I'm going to hurt you so much you'll be begging for death, and even then? I wouldn't let you. Because you don't deserve to die."

"You're a monster," Gerard whispered brokenly.

"And you're an asshole. You may seem strong to other people but to me you're just a useless doll. You're worthless, Gerard, and you know you are. You got them all hurt because you were too stupid to think. And now you're paying the price, and it only just begun with me biting that human."

Gerard was shaking. He didn't understand why though. Was it Anger? Worry? Regret? Sorrow? Fear? Or maybe all of them.

He didn't even know.

One thing he knew for sure, and that was that Michael wasn't kidding. He wasn't fooling around and he didn't lie. He had enough power to do it. He had enough power to destroy Gerard's life.

But if he wanted to hurt the innocent human on the way, Gerard couldn't let this happen. He would stop Michael from getting to Frank even if his life depended on it.

Because he deserved to be punished. But Frank didn't. Frank must stay safe, because Gerard vowed.

"We promised never to bite humans," Gerard gritted out. Michael barked out a laugh, backing away from Gerard just a bit before he was back at his face, glaring at him with the same cold expression and the bitterness.

"Oh Gerard," he murmured, and the elder knew it was coming. "When did you ever keep a promise?"

xoxoxoxo

Gerard came back home helpless and weak. He felt broken, so vulnerable and powerless against what was awaiting.

How could he be so stupid back then? How could he possibly be so damn reckless and not see what his actions would cause?

He turned Michael into the man he was, he knew it. But now there was nothing he could do to change it, and it was scary.

He quietly slipped into bed. The images and memories attacked him everywhere.

Why was he so weak? Why couldn't he help them? He could've saved them.

Once his head hit the pillow, he exhaled a breath of relief. His eyes landed on the picture. That framed photo that held the face of the woman who used to mean so much.

It was hard. He almost couldn't take it. So he pulled the blanket up to his nose and closed his eyes.

Just as he was finally about to fall asleep, a tingling wet feeling appeared on his cheek. He knew what it was. He was crying. He hadn't cried in a while.

But that was okay, because he was used to it. Frank wouldn't notice. It would all be gone by the morning.

So for now, he'll cry. He will let the pain wash over him and escape him in a form of wet drops, tears that streamed down his pale face and into the warm pillow.

"Last time I checked, you screwed up protecting everyone you knew!"

No. Stop.

"I wanna hurt you so fucking much."

Please don't. Please, no, stop. Just don't.

"I wanna stick the knife and twist it."

UH!

"It's already in your brain, Gerard. You can see it as if it happened yesterday."

No, it's not, it's not real. Please just stop!

"You'll be begging for death, but even then? I wouldn't let you. Because you don't deserve to die."

Let me die.
