" Hes a-alive? " The doctor says shocked.
" he's alive ?" Gerard repeats what the doctor says his crying stopping as he looks at Frank lying in the hospital bed with the look of hope in his eyes
" yes.. it looks like he has pulled through... he is breathing on his own ...but how? .... this means he might wake up .... from his coma .... soon ...." the doctor says losing track of where he was astounded . " we will have to monitor him closely this is very rare to happen .... i haven't seen or herd of anyone doing this ...people do not usually start breathing on their own after being taken off the support machines. After the machines are turned of that is usually it for patients in the same condition as Frank... but it looks like he has something to fight for." The doctor said looking at Frank both shocked and surprised. He then thinks it's a good idea to give Gerard some time with Frank after the days events of thinking he was going to lose his lover.

Gerard is over joyed.... his face beaming as he looks at Frank lying there.
" you keep holding on for me hun i'm never leaving your side i'm staying here with you ... you are the one i am supposed to be with for the rest of my life and the only person i want to stay beside ... i love you so much Frankie and i can't wait to plan our wedding and start our married life together a new adventure for us after all this time we can finally have our happy ending... the one we have always wanted... we finally have a forever together "

Frank is still alive, After everything that has happened and the doctors giving up on him now all they can hope for is that he wakes up from his coma. Gerard has not yet lost faith that Frank will pull through. But if he does it would mean on to the next battle..... Cancer.

Three weeks pass and Frank still hasn't woken up. Gerard was with him as always and so was Mikey keeping Gerard company while he read to Frank.
" i know you like this one hun... we used to read this one together on tour..." Gerard says remembering the good memories he and Frank have of this book. " how i loved reading this cuddled up on the sofa in the bus because we only had this copy and both wanted to read it at the same time ... such good memories"
Franks hand moves a little as Gerard is talking and Gerard gasps
" what is it Gee? " Mikey asks as he thinks there is a problem
" h-he moved ..... his arm just moved Mikes... " Gerard says still shocked by this he takes Franks hand in his stroking his knuckles.
" Are you sure Gee? " Mikey asks confused and shocked
"yes i'm sure Mikes.... he moved.. "
moments later Franks eyes flicker open...
"Gee? w-where am i?" Franks voice says weakly.
" "Gee stay here i'm going to get a doctor" Mikey says running out of the room
" Your awake!! " Gerard beams and hugs Frank tightly pressing a soft kiss to Franks head " your in hospital Frank... we were in a car accident "
The doctor comes rushing in with Mikey not far behind him.
" Mr Iero your awake" the doctor says
" yes? what's going on here..... ?" Frank asks confused and sleepy
" Well Mr Iero you and Gerard were in a car crash just Over & months ago..you were hit by a drunk driver on a country road and he hit your side of the car and called an ambulance before driving off. Gerard only had a few cuts and bruises but you have been in a coma since the accident we have done scans and other tests while you have been in our care and you have stage three cancer in your brain. we could not do treatment without your consent so we have been waiting for you to wake up.. we took you off life support three weeks ago and you started breathing on your own so we have been monitoring your condition since. There are not many people who survive being taken of support machines but you Mr Iero you have something to fight for it seems " The doctor explains to Frank everything that has happened while he has been in a coma and explains that Gerard has not left his side and never gave up hope that he would pull through this.
" I've been in a coma? for over seven months ? ... and Cancer ? how do i have stage three Cancer? " Frank is rather confused.
" well Frank we found the tumour when we done scans on you to see what damage had been sustained in the accident. WE then had a look to at your file and saw that you had tests done earlier on this year about head aches and nothing came up. We think that those tests were not correct and that you had your Cancer then. and now you are awake we can get started on getting you better and discussing what treatments we can do for you. But now i shall leave you two to talk." The doctor says and leaves the room with Mikey.
" I can't believe it .... i have cancer" Frank says looking at Gerard with tears in his eyes.
" I know hun ... they told me the day after the accident... these past few months have been hard.. you know? but i never gave up hope.... i knew this wasn't the end of us" Gerard takes Franks hand and kisses it.
" I would never give up on our Forever Gee" Frank says as he takes his finger under Gerards chin and brings him into a kiss. " I know this must have been hard on you... but we will get married.... and we will grow old together"

Two months pass and Frank is ready to go home his physio was complete and he could now walk and do things for himself. But with Gerards help he will get through the rest of the physio.
They arrive home and get settled for a lazy day watching TV and eating junk food just having a good time and talk about the wedding and when they should plan it as Frank wants to get married sooner rather than later in case he doesn't get through his Cancer battle and of course Gerard protests to this and tells Frank he will make it through because he is his star and that light is not going out any time soon he can just tell.

It was tie for Frank to go for a meeting with the doctor to discuss treatment for his cancer. so he went to his appointment and Gerard had to stay outside while the doctor talked to Frank to give him his options the discuss them with Gerard and tell him which is the option he s going with.
" Hello Mr Iero please take a seat" the doctor says pointing to a seat as he welcomes Frank into his office.
" Thank you doctor... so we are here to discuss my treatment? " Frank asks as he takes a seat in the office in front of the doctors desk.
" yes we are Frank" the doctor says taking his seat behind the desk putting on a serious face as he looked at Frank, since you were in a coma your cancer worsened. if we had found it earlier we could have removed it before it developed but that is not the case. we could try chemo but the cancer has developed rapidly and there is a 15% chance that this would cure you... or we have an operation we can do that removes the tumour completely but this comes with risks. It is 100% effective and would get rd of your cancer but there is an 85% chance that you will get amnesia and a 20% chance you can die during the surgery.
"oh... okay doctor .. i understand " Frank says as he stands up " i will have to discuss this with my partner and ill get back to you with what option i will take"
" alright Mr Iero the sooner we get your answer the sooner we can start the treatment " the doctor says shaking Franks hand before he exits the room.

Gerard and Frank talk about this for three days and they decide to go with the operation because it has a higher chance that Frank will be cured and they talked about the risks but they could handle Frank having amnesia for a few weeks so Frank rang the doctor and the surgery was booked in for a months time.

The day of the surgery Frank packs his bag to stay in hospital and Gerard goes with him for support. The surgery lasts for 4 hours but is successful at removing the tumour completely.
But Frank gets amnesia and can't remember Gerard or their relationship at all.

" what do you mean doctor?" Gerard asks quite hurt by the words the doctor is saying
" I mean Frank does not remember your relationship or friendship... he knows who you are but he has no memory of all the time you have spent together"
" but this doesn't make sense.... how could he forget me ?"
" That's just the way amnesia works sometimes Mr Way now please try to remain calm usually with this operation the amnesia only lasts for a few weeks its not often it lasts forever he will remember just give him time he has just had a tumour removed and he will need to stay in hospital until we are sure he can go home"
"okay i understand doctor"

Gerard brings things that the doctor requests over the next month to try and trigger Franks memories but it's no use he can't remember him and Gerard so the doctor gave them the okay to go home in hope that it will recover some of his memories.

Three months pass and Frank still can't remember however they did make new memories of just hanging out as friends as Frank no longer felt anything for Gerard .... and this was killing Gerard inside knowing that the guy he proposed to couldn't remember anything about him or their relationship. Frank stayed in the Guest bedroom of the house. Mikey and Frank were still as close as they were and Mikey could see how much this effected Gerard that he could remember Mikey but not him and Frank could tell as well and he just felt so guilty for it but he couldn't help that he wasn't able to remember and that made him feel really bad. He could see the pain in Gerards eyes every time he looked at him.

Gerard goes out with Mikey one day leaving Frank home alone and Frank couldn't handle the guilt any more so he packed his bags and got a one way ticket to spain. leaving a note for Gerard with his engagement ring.

" Dear Gee...
i know this is hard for you... me not knowing who you are...... or even being able to remember us.... and i know we must have meant a lot to each other for you to have proposed and me saying yes... which is why i have to give this back to you ... i am sorry for this but i have to leave... i do not think i will be able to remember us and i do not want to hurt you any more than i do every day i see it in your eyes. I think this is for the best.... this is good bye Gerard ... i hope this ring goes to somebody who deserves it .... because i do not. you deserve to be loved back the way i see when you look at me.. and it was all because of the surgery that i don't remember us or how i feel about it and i want to remember ... i would love to remember... but i just can't and it's killing me every day seeing the pain in your eyes and looking for hope at every corner that i might remember but i just can't and i am truly sorry... maybe my memory will come back.. but by then it would be to late and you will be happy with some one else ... so i guess this is it... i don't have the courage to say this to your face ....i know this will hurt ... but it is for the best .... maybe after a while we could be friends... but for now that can not happen

i hope you find love again .. and i hope it works out for you... but i have to go ... and i am sorry for that ....

Gerard and Mikey arrive at the house to find the note and ring on the table .. Gerard falls to the floor in tears and Mikey then picks up the note and reads it " fuck "
" He's gone .... he didn't even give it much of a chance before leaving .... that operation changed him for the worse..... " Gerard says crying heavily and scrunching the letter in his hands holding the ring to his chest. " t-take me to the airport... "
"w-what ?" Mikey asks Gerard confused
" Take me to the airport Mikes...... i have to try and stop him ... or find him or something ... take me "
" alright alright lets go"


Gerard runs from the car into the airport before Mikey could even park.. He searched for hours but Frank was gone .. so Mikey took him back home .. Gerard cried for weeks on end... no word from Frank ...he was gone forever... Mikey, Ray and Bob had all tried to cheer him up but nothing worked ... they couldn't get him out of bed most days and suggested that he goes on holiday with them to take his mind off it but noting worked.... Gerard had been broken and torn into a million peices and only Frank had the power to put him back together.
