If you say, goodbye today

16 year old Gerard was planning a surprise party for Frank. He was going to be turning 15 on Halloween and Gerard wanted to make it extra special for him. Since his birthday was the next day, he didn't have a whole lot of planning to do, even though the birthday 'party' consisted of only him and Frank, and they would probably only just end up watching a movie, but that didn't stop Gerard from trying to make it special. While Gerard was writing down what kind of cake he was going to get and planning everything, Frank walked in the room and almost saw the notebook he was writing in. "What are you doing Gee?" Frank asked. "Nothing Frank, just drawing" he said quickly. "Oh ok." Frank said sadly hoping that Gerard was doing something for his birthday. "Well I gotta go!" Gerard said quickly running out of the room to go pick up the cake.


When Gerard woke up the next morning he ran over to Franks bed and was about to wish him a happy birthday, when he looked at Frank and saw that he was sick. "Frankie what's wrong?" He asked worriedly. "I'm s-sick" he said sneezing. "Oh Frankie" Gerard cooed in his ear. "I'm sorry you're sick on your birthday, I had stuff planned for it." "Really?" He responded coughing violently. "Well we can still celebrate! I was only really going to have us watch a movie anyway and eat cake. Just because you're sick doesn't mean we can't do that." Gerard said happily. Frank just smiled at Gerard, thinking about how lucky he was to have him. Later that night, Gerard came out with a small cake with the words "happy birthday Frankie" written in black icing. "Thanks so much Gee!" Frank said happily. They cut a piece of cake off for each of them and then Frank crawled into his bed, while Gerard got the movie set up. He put on 'Saw' one of Franks favorite movies and Gerard crawled into the bed with Frank, cuddling into Gerards side. "Thanks so much for today Gee, even though I'm sick you made this a great birthday" he said. Gerard leaned forward and pressed a small kiss to Frankie's lips, not caring that he's sick. When he pulled away he looked up at Frankie and smiled. With Franks head resting onto Gerard's shoulder, they both continued to watch the movie.


The next morning Mrs. Way was in the room with the nurse and they were whispering something to each other. Gerard still had his eyes closed so it looked like he was asleep, but he tried to make out what they were saying. "We're not sure how much longer he's going to live. We never expected it to be this long, so he could potentially survive, but we're not sure yet." The nurse said to Mrs. Way. "So he has a chance of living?" "Possibly it's not that likely, but there is a good chance he will survive." Gerard was scared knowing that he could not make it, but he was also hopeful that he would make it. He decided on not telling Frankie this because he didn't want to worry him. Once he heard footsteps walking out the door he opened his eyes and thought about the conversation his mother had just had with the nurse.
