If you say, goodbye today

Is this the way it's gotta be?

13 year old Gerard and 12 year old Frankie were still as close as they were when they were 4. Gerard wasn't expected to live this long, but it seemed that the doctors were wrong. "Gerard, we have great news." The doctor said adjusting her glasses. "Mmhm." Gerard said mumbling under his breath. He had heard that sentence many times and it usually didn't mean anything. "Well your cancer has gotten better and we think you may be able to go home and leave by tomorrow." The doctor said. "Wait, really?" Gerard said excitement creeping into his voice. The doctor nodded. "You can start packing up some of your things, Im having your parents come pick you up tomorrow morning." This news excited him very much as he had been stuck in this hospital for about 8 years now, but the only thing going through his mind was Frank. About how he was just leaving him here all alone. He saw a glance of hazel eyes then they disappeared. "Oh no Frankie must of heard the doctor." Gerard thought to himself. Hey Frank wait!" Gerard called down the hallway as Frank ran pushing through doctors, nurses and visiting family members. He didn't slow down though he just kept running until Gerard finally gave up, heading back to his room. As Gerard lay awake in his bed thinking about the next day, Frankie still hadn't returned to the room.

"Well are you ready Gerard?" The nurse asked as he gathered his final things from the room he had spent most of his childhood in. "Yeah, I think so." He responded. As soon as he got off the bed, Frank walked in the room, tears in his eyes. Frank just put his head down and walked over to his side of the room. "Frank?" He asked quietly. "I don't want you to leave me here alone." Frank responded, his head still down. "You're the reason my hallucinations have left me alone more than usual, as soon as you leave they'll just come right back." "Im sorry Frank, but I have to go. I'll visit you as much as I can." Gerard said trying to make the situation sound better to Frank. "That's what they all say. That's what my parents said when they brought me here. What, they've visited me once? Twice? I've been here for years and they've hardly visited me." Frank said starting to violently scratch his arms. "Hey, I promise I'll visit. Every week." He vowed. "O-okay Gee." He said using Gerard's nickname that he had given him when they were little. They embraced and Gerard walked out of the door feeling a new sense of freedom that he hadn't felt in a long time.

~6 months later~

Gerard had been out of the hospital for six months and had still kept his promise of seeing Frankie every weekend. Over the past month Gerard's cancer had progressively gotten worse also. He would have aching muscles and had stopped doing more than he usually did. It wasn't like he did a lot, but he used to actually come downstairs and socialize with his family, now he just sat up in his room all day not speaking to anyone. This worried Mrs. Way. One night she decided to come up to Gerard's room to check him, and when she walked in she found her son sprawled out on the ground crying. "What's wrong Gee?" She said so worried for her son, she was becoming light-headed. "Mom, I,-I just don't feel that good." He said through tears. "Oh baby, you need to go back to the hospital right now" she said helping Gerard up. They got into the car and Mrs. Way drove him to the hospital.

After Mrs. Way had called the doctor and they brought Gerard back to his old room. About 5 minutes after he got back to his room, Frankie walked in. A look of pure joy and worry both came across his face. "Gee? Why are you here? Are you ok??" He bombarded Gerard with questions. "Woah Frankie slow down! Well my cancer just got worse apparently, so I had to be brought back here to be closely monitored." "Oh ok, sorry I guess I got excited you were back" he said sheepishly. Gerard smiled, overjoyed that Frankie had missed him that much.

@InLoveWithAllOfTheseVampires
Thanks so much! It really means a lot to me when people enjoy my stories, especially this one since it was the first fic I'd ever finished

Damn. I was on the verge of crying. I really liked how it wasn't the classic "Meet, kiss, sex after two days, happily ever after" story. And I liked how there were references to other band that I love. I'm definitely going to read the sequel.

YEAAAAA SEQUEL YESSSSSSSSS
