The Spike in my Heart (Frerard)

Chapter Five

Gerard’s P.O.V
“That was amazing Gerard.”
I lean back further into the rustic bench, the echoes of my own voice still singing in my mind.
“Thank you, Frank Iero.” I say with a half smirk lingering on my pale lips. “I wrote that myself.”
Frank’s eyes widen, his pupils shrinking as more light filters in. “Really?”
“Yes, really.” I laugh and shake my head, but stop abruptly with a frown. I’ve always heard that opposites attract, but for a small, breathing human to have the capability of making me laugh is not something I could have foretold. There is something so… pleasant about being near someone who isn’t constantly pining to stare at themselves or put others down. Someone who has a heartbeat. I can’t help but switch on some of my own charm when I’m around Frank, that enthralling glint in the black of a vampire’s eyes I know no human can resist. It makes his heart flutter, I like that.
“So, tell me…” I divert Frank’s attention back to me, “How did you come to be here?”
He hesitates, vital breath catching hypnotically in his throat. “I…”
I cock an eyebrow, staring right into his deep hazel eyes and await an answer.
“I… my… my parents weren’t fit to have me live with them anywhere. I had to move in with my aunt in this secluded part of New Jersey.” He runs his tongue over his shining lip ring, releasing a gentle breath. “They dug their own graves with drugs.” He shrugs and taps his foot on the damp ground, mottled with the brown and orange fire of leaves.
“I’m sorry, Frankie.” I nearly reach out and lay a hand on his shoulder; but I don’t know if I can quite trust myself yet. The same way I know I can hypnotise him, his life and being can capture me too.
He just shakes his head, offering me a flickering smile.
“Hey, how come only the leaves from one tree are falling when the rest of the forest is green?” Frank suddenly asks, his eyes narrowing in confusion.
“I’ll show you.” I get to my feet and beckon for him to follow suit. The shady space is relatively enclosed, so it only takes us a couple of steps to arrive at the edge of the water. Its surface is home to only a few swelling ripples, which wash up and fade at our feet. I crouch down and rest my hand on top of a mossy yet smooth stone as Frank also gets to his knees next to me.
“This…” I overturn the wedged stone with care, “Is who gives this part of the forest a mind of its own.”
A saddened haze crosses Frank’s eyes as he catches sight of the black scattering of ashes I have revealed. He doesn’t ask or confirm, but I can tell he knows it’s my mother.
“If you’re not so bad and don’t bite… then why does everyone hate you all so much?”
“We do bite, Frankie.” I sigh and trail my fingers around the dent where the ashes lie. “We need something… someone to sustain us.”
Frank tilts back onto his heels, staring at me with a distrusting gaze.
“We mainly bite the ill and the old – if we’re going for the kill. If there’s no blood infection then outside appearance doesn’t matter. We only do when we really need to… Frankie…”
He shakes his head, lip curling with distaste. “Still, that’s just… freaky.”
I rise suddenly to my feet, jaw clenched and my eyes narrowed to slits. “We are not freaks.” My voice claps like a crash of thunder, sending violent tremors through the water and sending some leaves into a mild whirlwind a few inches above the ground.
Frank’s heartbeat resonates loudly in my head, pounding fast with fear and I can hear his ragged breathing as he falls back and shuffles away from me a little.
I sigh and slump back onto the ground, the wind settling with me.
“Frank… Frankie, it’s just that we’re not humans. Dogs eat differently to you, doesn’t make them freaks.”
“I’m sorry.” His voice is mild and barely audible, even to my sharp ears.
I shake my head, unable to remain infuriated. The sight of him biting down on his lip so anxiously is enough to re-enchant anyone.
“I know it seems weird.” I force a smile onto my lips and carry on, “But we will never hurt you.”
He nods and edges a few inches closer again, his eyes watching the dimming sky through a criss-crossing network of branches. I’m surprised… but glad, that Frank didn’t take off when I became angry. Maybe the fear froze him, but I know the effect I have on him is greater than that single emotion.
“The glade will change when you can see the first star.” I say, also turning my eyes up to the sky. The blue is deepening, hinting at full nightfall.
Frank turns to look at me and I softly meet his gaze. Even now, his eyes are not as relaxed as they were when we sat on the bench. Despite a small loop of guilt which mildly threatens to knot itself, I layer my eyes with only a small amount of charm.
“I would never have you fear me Frankie.” I tell him in all honesty. His eyes waver slightly, but he soon allows himself a small smile and nods at me again. I release my charm slowly, watching for the return of fear, but he stays content and it takes me a few moments before I realise that I am returning his smile.
“Let’s look for this star then.”
Frank tilts his head back and scrutinises the sky curiously, exposing his beautiful pulse – beating beneath his unblemished skin. I watch it for a while, but then let my eyes flit to the canopy above us, and through that the early evening sky.
In a quiet unbroken by words, we are united by that sky. A few leaves rustle, but they are of no consequence to us. The water laps gently at our feet, but we pay its barging no attention.
“There!” Frank points through a web strewn over some spindly branches to a softy twinkling bead in the fabric of the sky. Its humble light reflects off the dewdrops resting in the spider’s web.
“Now look around.” I tell Frank and focus my eyes on the water, seeing it already beginning to stir.
Franks gasps quietly, his eyes lighting up as the water swirls faster and starts to lift itself up in a shimmering sculpture, droplets buzzing in the air. The air sinks into a shade of red, darker than blood and striking. Every leaf, each wisp of grass – they all glow an ethereal blue. A shimmering aura resonates from inside each one. As their light intensifies, the water simmers into pure black smoke and makes its way in wispy veils around the glade.
“Gee, this is so beautiful.” Frank whispers, all of a sudden right beside me. I tear my gaze away from the supernatural scene and trail it over his face instead. I find myself swallowing as I feel his body heat tingling on my icy skin. The blue glow enlightens his attractive features, making him look as beautiful as our surroundings. As a haze of black smoke passes between us, I feel a need to be closer to his living body. I lean slowly forward as the fog clears, watching his large pupils dilating. I just about manage to see his eyes flutter closed as our lips connect. His warmth radiates through me as our lips move in sync against each-other, a perfect union.
I draw reluctantly away and watch his eyes open again, neither of us finding words suitable to describe what just happened. Whatever it was, I know it won’t be the last time.

Well obviously it isn't Frank's fault at all.... but Gerard didn't pursue him? Frank bumped into him in the forest... literally walked into him. That's how it started.
I personally melted into a puddle of feels after reading this too... I shall be in pain writing the next chapter
