Forever Night

Gerard scoured his reflection tirelessly; he had to have been ready for at least forty-five minutes already, but he just stood in front of his mother's full length mirror, checking, double checking and triple checking every detail of his appearance with such acute observation that even Alexander McQueen would be impressed by how many little defects Gerard noticed. The defects didn't matter so much now, since they had all be fixed meticulously.

"Gerard! You better leave or you'll be late picking Frank up!" Donna, his beloved mother called from the bottom of the stairs. Gerard didn't feel the need to reply as he gave himself a final, quick once over in the glass before shuffling out of his mother's tranquil bedroom.

"You take longer to get ready than a fuh-reaking girl, Gerard." Mikey, the object of loving ridicule's brother, teased. Gerard responded by shoving his brother playfully on the shoulder, chuckling all the while. Normally Gerard would have taken a defensive stance against his brother's aimless antagonizing, but today was special; today Gerard was exceptional.

The tuxedo wearing, eighteen year old took a seat on the plush couch, exquisite black dress shoes in hand, so to secure the last touch on his flawless attire. He look north to his mother who had joyous tears in her eyes.

"Mom-" the elegant boy began, but Donna waved her hand to silence his lecture.

"You just look perfect. I'm so proud of you, Gerard." She said, placing her hand , which contained a wilted tissue, on her red-complexioned chest as an instinctive reaction to the tightness in her throat.

"Thanks," Gerard said, standing up and encircling his mother in a warm hug. "I love you mom."

"I love you too baby." The prideful mother responded and wrapped her own, thin arms around her son's fancied shoulders. "Now go. And tell Frank I love him too." Gerard nodded, smiling and headed for the door.

The prom-goer was climbing into his freshly washed black Buick when he heard his mother's voice frantically calling to him. "Gerard! Gerard, don't forget the corsage!" Gerard's cheeks tainted themselves pink; Frank would have been devastated if he had forgotten the ornate white flower.

"Thanks, Ma," the boy said, humbled and very grateful.

"Take lots of pictures will you? I know Frank's parents won't want to take any but, just be sure that someone does." Gerard nodded before starting on his way to his date's house.

Butterflies lively in his stomach, Gerard approached the Iero's front door. His anxiety was present for the obvious reason - he was taking the most perfect person in the entire history of the universe to his senior prom, and because said perfection's parents disapproved of their relationship more than even he knew.
The bundle of bow ties and butterflies gently rapped his knuckled on the wooden door. His breath hitched and his heart skipped a few beats as the door gave way to an impeccable human being clad in a white tuxedo, sporting a new lip hoop and striking black eyeliner. Frank's face lit Gerard's world up as the pair held one another's gaze for what may have been eternity.

"Hi, Gee," Frank breathed, tone bubbling with admiration and love.

"My Frankie," was all Gerard managed to breath out before taking Frank into his arms and brining their lips together passionately. Frank did not hesitate to match Gerard's vigor, but he did break the kiss; the kid was much too excited to go to prom. Gerard smiled again, offering his love his arm - Frank took it, beaming brighter than ever.

"So much for the enticing descent down the stairs," Gerard taunted lovingly; as much as he would have loved to see his Frankie walk slowly down a short flight of steps, he was secretly grateful that he didn't have to deal with Iero's parents that night, it would have lessened his mood.

"I dunno, Gee," Frank retaliated, hissing inward as if though he was considering something very seriously. "I'm pretty okay with how it went."

"Me too, Frankie." Gerard said, kissing his other half on his hairline before opening the passenger side door.

"Ahh, I see chivalry is returning."

"With vengeance, my dear boy." The two laughed sincerely. They were always happiest when they were in each other's presence.

The couple arrived at the venue - a romanticized public museum, and Gerard parked his Buick in the nearest spot he could find. The driver noticed Frank tense up as soon as he killed the ignition. Gerard got out, sauntering to Frank's door and opening it gingerly. His breath hitched once more as his eyes fell upon the physical manifestation of perfect playing nervously with his silver lip ring. Gerard took Frank's hand with both of his, causing the seated to look up in his date'a face expectantly. Frank rose, standing to Gerard's shoulder, to which he felt himself being pressed against as Gerard melded their bodies together in a comforting embrace.

"Don't worry about anyone in there. This is our night. This is only about us. Do you hear me, love?" Gerard asked his darling softly yet sternly. The nervous boy nodded into Gerard strong, familiar shoulder. "Good." Gerard finalized, relinquishing Frank from the hug and offering his arm for the second time that day - the millionth time throughout their relationship. Frank took it, replacing his anxious glower with a genuine smile that was only ever for Gerard or Gerard's loving family.

The devout couple walked confidently into the museum, presenting the doorman with their tickets. As soon as they were permitted to go through the entryway, the glares and slurs commenced, but the pair just smiled at each other. The couple had barely found a table when a slow song began playing. Neither of them knew the tune, but Gerard offered his hand to the shorter teen nonetheless.

The inseparable pair danced closely, communicating their love through their languid movements. Frank became slightly wary as Gerard attempted to retrieve something from his jacket pocket with one hand while keeping his other at Frank's waist, but the negative feeling didn't last long before Frank felt something cool, and snug slip onto his left ring finger - the only finger that contains a vein that connects directly to the heart. Frank gasped as he examined the vintage-looking diamond ring.

"It was my mother's." Gerard admitted. Frank had tears in his eyes. The song had ended, but the two were in their own world - no one else existed. Gerard never physically told Frank that Donna loved him, but the affection was suddenly apparent.

Frank choked out, "So does this mean?"

"Forever, if you'll have me."

"Forever couldn't be better spent, as far as I'm concerned." The two did not kiss in that moment, they had plenty of time ahead of them for kissing. The engaged couple simply embraced tenderly and innocently; Frank never noticed that Gerard forgot the white corsage in the back seat of his sleek black Buick.

I can't help it. It is like I force myself not to cry. If you will look at 'A Letter To Gerard' then look at my reply to someone, I think you would understand. It is a slow, desprate climb before crying is easy.
