You're Not In This Alone

GERARD'S POV

I hear Ruby screaming and I drag myself off the bed and hobble into the living room where I find them on the floor, Ruby thrashing around in Franks arms before she stills and sobs out "Why does it hurt so fucking bad? I wanna die daddy" and I feel my heart crack and I start to cry as I make my way over to them and awkwardly lower myself to the floor, wrapping my arm around Ruby. "Baby girl" I sob out and she leans over into my chest and says "Daddy, I don't wanna hurt anymore." We all sit on the floor holding each other until we calm down before we get up, Frank helping me up off the floor and I take Ruby's hand, leading her to my bedroom and sitting her on the edge of the bed. I dig through my drawer, grabbing a bottle of pills and I shake one out into my hand, offering it to her and handing her my bottle of water off the table. Ruby swallows it down before saying "What is it?" "Valium. Lay down baby." She lays back and Frank comes back into the room and helps me pull her shoes off, making her more comfortable and I climb into the bed beside her, pulling her into my chest and holding her close as she calms down and slowly falls asleep. I hold her the whole time she sleeps, closing my eyes too but staying awake, wanting to make sure she's ok and two hours later when she starts to whimper and whine I open my eyes to see her face screwed up like she's in pain. "Hey hey baby girl it's alright I promise, daddy will do whatever it takes to make you feel better" I whisper in her ear and she calms down again, her face relaxing and she stays asleep.

A few hours later she wakes up and her eyes flutter open, her gaze fixing on the roof and she doesn't say anything so I don't either, my arm still wrapped around her. We lay in silence for a while before I break it. "Baby girl" I start and she says "I still love Ryan and it hurts so bad that he chose her." "You really still love him?" I ask and she says "Yeah, stupid huh?" "No baby, you can't always control who you love. You know when you were a baby your dad and I had our fair share of problems and I got hurt a lot but I still loved him. I know how it feels to be crushed by someone who means everything to you." "I don't want to hurt anymore daddy." "If you love him try talking to him, just talk and see how you feel, you might just need closure baby." She nods before saying "Will you come with me daddy? I don't think I could do it alone." "Of course baby, whatever you need." The next morning Ruby and I head to the diner after she calls Ryan and asks him to meet her, both of us sitting in the booth and ten minutes later Ryan shows up and looks worried upon seeing me. "I'll be right over there baby ok?" I say, pointing to an empty table and Ruby nods before I stand up and leave them to have their conversation and hoping whatever happens here will ease her pain and suffering.
