Danger Days

"Hello Killjoys, Dr.D here with an update on the top four you all love so much. They're heading out to the zones this evening to visit some old friends so keep your eyes open and your gun high cause you might just see them shootin' at and drivin' away from the dracs. Keep your homes open just invade they need it. Thanks." I was drawing on my notebook as he was giving his report. "Hey kiddo, wanna get some chow? Maybe a little iPod thing...I dunno what the kids are into these days seeing as most of them are brainwashed pill takin zombies." He said chuckling at his own joke about kids. I shrugged and kicked my feet up and down. "I haven't listened to music in a while..." I said tracing a figure eight with my finger. "I'll go get that then." He said ruffling my fro before walking off. I drew myself in a red jacket, brown helmet, and blue pants...the outfit I had always wanted but could never have in battery city. Most people in Bat city didn't break the rules and took their pills the televisions and rare radios transmitting lies into their minds. I would always hide my pills from my parents. Dropping them in their water or our toilets stamping myself or cutting so that when the dracs came to check our marks I was all good. The pills would cause your skin to open and scab over or would leave a sticky black substance on your fingers. If you weren't marked they would know. My parents soon caught on and did the same. We were giving out information to the killjoys when they were caught and murdered. "High treason, refusal to pills, betraying your own leader." Few on the list of pointless and idiotic reasons they were murdered. I had run away after their plain grey bodies were covered in red from the lazers. Sure I had seen deaths but no one had ever bled. I think they used an old gun from when technology wasn't as advanced...or corrupt. I had lived on my own after I ran and frequently made the decals lives hell. Stealing supplies, killing and painting the draws bodies. Spelling their corpses into threats. Only once did I ever truly felt horrible for what I did...when the mask came off and I saw a boy. No older that fourteen staring back at me. He looked so scared and I let him live. His name was Alex and I quickly gave him a fake name, what Dr. D referred to as a killjoy name. So Fury Runner and I had survived together until I turned eleven. He was just turning fourteen and I swear I'll never forget the fear and colorless ness left in his eyes as he bled out. His white shirt and yellow jacket stained like my parents. The damn Dracs had set up a trap and I being niece and stupid nearly fell into it. Fury pushed me away and a metal pole rammed through his chest. He told me to go and never look back. I lost my best friend that day. My first kiss was spent that day. And I never traveled with anyone after that. I spent my time studying the killjoys and creating all that I could with the broken equipment left by dead Dracs. Then the fav four found me and I'm where I'm at now. By the time my thoughts were finished Dr. D was standing in front of my earplugs and a small device in his hands. "Here." He said a smile on his face. I put the earplugs in and played a familiar song. "Is this...Party? I didn't know he sang...I didn't know that was him after your report." I said mesmerized by his voice. He only chuckled and went back to his sound table. I listened to the rest of the song and continued drawing eventually putting it away once I began to think of Fury...god how I miss him
