Keep Me Safe from Myself

This Time I'll Make You Proud To See Me

**Bob’s POV**

“I-I’m going for a cig, guys. Mmm-kay?” I half-slurred my voice purposely. It was so easy to pretend to be drunk, I don’t know why I didn’t start faking it sooner to get out of indecent situations such as this.
I stood up and swiftly pulled out a cigarette as soon as I turned the corner, out of sight from the other guys. I was glad we had someone else staying sober for the night, though. Frank could definitely be a handful when he was drunk, as he’d proved multiple times over the last few weeks. I mostly felt awkward around the guys, especially if Ray wasn’t around. He was the only mature one of the group that I could tell. Gerard was ok, but overall, everyone was just plain immature. I guess I found everyone immature, really. Come on, if you were over three hundred years old, wouldn’t you find eighteen year olds to be like toddlers, too?

I made my way outside towards the oak tree out front, keeping an eye out for Hannah, who had just left moments ago. It was a very oddly placed tree, but convenient for shelter nonetheless. I didn’t want to freak her out by making someone go with her, even if it was for her own protection. I flicked my lighter a few times until a steady bright flame shone from the tip.

I kind of felt bad for Gerard. All anybody ever wants is to live a normal life, follow their dreams, and stay out of trouble. Well, mostly. But now, everything he’s ever known just shattered, like the ground had fallen from underneath him. He’s put on a brave face, I give him that. Things could have been much worse had he just shut down.

**Flashback** (A/N Here’s what you’ve been waiting for >:D)

The coffee pot was boiling at a rapid pace now, Gerard impatiently tapping his foot at the ground below it. Ray was looking at me like I had just killed a man, with Frank leaning against the doorframe. Mikey had made himself comfortable on the bed again, struggling to stay awake.

“Can’t you just start now?” He whined, wanting nothing more than to just pass out right there. I didn’t blame him, but this was too important, even if it didn’t directly affect him. Gerard waited another minute before deciding that we had enough coffee and started filling up a few cups before it had finished brewing, the rest of the brown liquid continuing to drip onto the counter until a pale puddle started to form on the floor. He ignored it and brought the cups to us before making his own, and finally settling himself onto the bed next to Mikey.

“I swear to God, if any of you start to freak out, I will knock you to the floor. And no interruptions, please. It’s such a pet peeve of mine.” I forewarned. They all nodded, Ray rolling his eyes and shifting his gaze from one side of the room to the other uncomfortably.

“Do you really think it was a coincidence that I came up with Ray to join your band?” I got no response from any of them.

“Fine. Well, it wasn’t, obviously. You see, I’ve known the two sisters long before they met either of you- and yes, Frankie. I know you met her when you were five and no, I don’t care. I knew her before she was able to walk.” I caught Frankie opening his mouth to speak from the corner of my eye and interjected before he could get a word in.

“I know you all think I’m weird. It was for your sake. I was really hoping it wouldn’t come to this, I even pulled in a few favors to try and get her out of the city, but she wouldn’t leave. Gerard, she felt safe with you, which while I do appreciate it, things would have been so much better had you guys just not met at all. She would have left, or just been killed by Mr. Peckka, either would have sufficed.” I broke off and took a swig of my coffee.”

“Are you fuc-“ Gerard started, his face a mixture of hurt and rage.

“Ah, ah. I told you not to interrupt.” I cleared my throat. “Anyways, And then YOU-“ I glared at Frank again.

“You had to bring the other one here, making things ten times worse. It was bad enough having one here, but to yank the youngest one from her sanctuary was a death wish. She was sent there for a reason, and she was to STAY there.”

“She was DYING-“ Frank abruptly added before being interrupted my Mikey.

“What reason?” Mikey innocently interjected, a bit more awake due to a caffeine drive. He quickly dipped his head in shame, hiding his face in his hands. “Sorry.” He muttered.

“Last chance, Bryar.” Ray looked at me, his gaze softening and his head lowered in defeat.

“I got this, Ray. Now, how do I actually explain this..” My voice trailed off.

“Well, to put it bluntly, I guess.” I set my coffee down and stood up, beckoning Frank to the bed where Mikey and Gerard both lay until they were all standing in front of me. I forced my mouth open, and fixed my gaze diagonally to the ceiling as my fangs slowly slid out, replacing my K-9 teeth. I lifted my hand and drew my thumb over one of them, piercing my skin and leaving a deep laceration starting from the pad of my thumb, and traveling all the way to the tip.

Blood seeped from the cut and dripped down my hand as I stretched my arm out in front of me to show the boys. Pink scar tissue quickly crawled over the gash, leaving a puffy red mark, then white, pale, then none at all. I lapped up the excess blood that had oozed down my hand, something I had done even before I was Turned. Old habits die hard.

Gerard and Frank’s expression was one of pure amazement, much opposed to the horror and screaming that Ray did when he first found out, granted he DID find out while I was draining his girlfriend dry. Guess that hooker wasn’t just a hooker, oops.

Mikey looked down, his mind deep in thought, his eyes lost in the room. I probed through his troubled thoughts. I saw the world through his eyes as the image of a girl floated from his mind to mine, with short hair and a gorgeous smile. They were laughing, holding hands, kissing. I saw the awful car accident, before the scene quickly changed to Gerard delivering the news of… Casey, I think? Of her death. I sighed, sympathizing for the young blonde. I took a shot in the dark as to who she was to him.

“Mikey, this is completely real, but no- even if I’d met you sooner, I couldn’t change what happened to your girlfriend. I was Turned by a stranger in the dark, not born into the curse. I can’t Turn anyone.” His face flew up and he shot daggers at me, wanting so badly to deny what he already knew as fact.

“Ok great, whoop-dee-doo, you’re a fucking….” Mikey choked on the next word, not wanting to admit the harsh reality.

“Vampire.” Gerard whispered, like he couldn’t believe it himself. “So what does this have to do with my girlfriend?” He stared at me in disbelief.

“It doesn’t, not yours anyways.” I shifted my gaze towards Frank. “You on the other hand..”

“No. No that’s not it she would-s-she would of told me.” Frank stood up from the bed and paced back and forth, grabbing a fistful of his hair.

“No, you idiot, she wouldn’t have. She doesn’t even know.” Shit, no. Wrong choice of words, Bryar.

“You-You’re calling me an idiot?! Well, excuse me Satan, I’m sorry that after being told my whole life that your kind doesn’t exist, and you just throw this information at us- Excuse me for not knowing HOW IT FUCKING WORKS!” Frank screeched. His face was red, a tear slowly sliding down his cheek. He pounded the wall once before Mikey stood up and pulled him back towards the bed.

“Frank PLEASE! Just sit down.” Mikey intervened. “So then tell us, why doesn’t she know?”

“Their mom decided not to tell her. The first few years after birth, any and all obvious signs of a vampire child dissipate, and you can barely tell them from a normal human child. Tell me, Frank. Is Blair on any medications?”

Frank sat on the bed, but stayed silent until Mikey elbowed his side. He called out his name.

“Ok, ok one! She was born with reflux, so she’s been taking pills her whole life. What, is that a lie too?”

I nodded. “Those were blood supplements, provided by yours truly. She’s never had a drop of blood in her life, so her body accepts the pills the way I would accept blood, and she doesn’t have the urge to murder everybody of the street. And she accepts the lie that she was born with a human abnormality.” I explained further.

“So why isn’t Hannah one too? You said it yourself she had nothing to do with that.” Gerard spoke once again. He only spoke when necessary, trying to take it all the facts. Mikey hardly spoke at all when he wasn’t tryin to calm Frank down.

“Funny thing, actually. They’re half sisters. Different fathers, her mother wasn’t exactly faithful. She had a fling with a ‘bad boy’, who leads a cult of our kind. Of course, Hannah’s father knew about the affair, and didn’t want anything to do with the child while in utero. This is when her mother came to me for help, to make her father understand. But Blair looked exactly like her mother from the moment she was born, and her father quickly changed his mind. I helped them control her until she became ‘normal’, and have watched over the children ever since. Well, until we made the decision to send her to that school. We wanted her safe. Hannah was fine being with both her biological parents. Although when Blair’s father found out about the death of her mother- point is, he wants her back, to join his clan. All they do is kill and manipulate, and I’m not letting that happen.” I sighed and took the last sip of my coffee, gently placing the cup on the ground.

“So… If Hannah isn’t a bloodsucker, what is she?” Ray spoke from the background. I spoke through gritted teeth, he knows I hate it when he calls me that.

“Nothing.”

**End Flashback**

Of course I knew what Hannah was, but I was done talking for that night. It was too much information for them to handle, I shouldn’t have even told them about Blair. It was an impulsive move, one that could have been costly.

I spotted Hannah walking down the street and beckoned her forward. I took one last drag of my cigarette and dropped in on the dew-covered grass, crushing it with my black sneaker. It was a cold night, and I didn’t want to be out here longer than necessary. Besides, the boys were probably wondering where I was.

Hannah shifted uncomfortably as she walked towards the house, the coffee shaking in her hands. Something’s wrong, really wrong. I kept urging her closer and closer.

A flash of blue fell from the trees and quickly situated itself around her. She stopped dead in her tracks, you could feel the panicked vibes from where I was standing. Ari, no. Fuck. If she was here, he wasn’t too far away.

I pulled out my phone and shot a quick text to Gee-

*Get your ass outside, now. SOS*

I took a few steps forward, and stopped dead in my tracks about 20 feet away. Ari’s looked at me with a face that dared me to try anything, flashing the steak knife that rested comfortably at Hannah’s throat. I pulled out my phone again with a different person in mind.

*J. It’s B. Ari’s here. Mikey’s house. Festinant*

She spoke just loud enough to taunt me with her words. I could hear Gerard’s footsteps come closer and slow to a stop right beside me. I quickly shushed his questions.

“Oh, my little Cherub, it took me so long to find you. Now take one more step, and I’ll slice your fucking throat.” Ari spoke in a sadistically cheery tone, barring her fangs. Hannah’s eyes were shut tight, you could see the fear on her face as she tried to relax. Where the fuck is she?

The click of a round being chambered rang out in the distance. “Let her go, or I wont think twice about blowing your fucking brains out all over the sidewalk.”

“Where’s the girl.” Ari murmured in Hannah’s ear, applying more pressure on the knife. It softly sliced into her skin, leaving a small cut. Hannah whimpered, but not at the pain. Even J knew from experience to never whisper that close to her. She attempted to speak when J grabbed a handful of blue curls and forced her head up. Ari’s eyes gazed up menacingly at the sky, her mouth in a wicked grin.

“The fledgling, WHERE IS THE FLEDGLING!“ Ari screamed.

“Send Lucifer my regards.” J called out, before placing the pistol against the right side of her skull and pulling the trigger. A loud blast rang out and echoed into the cloudy night and Ari’s body crumpled to the ground, twitching once, twice, three times before relaxing against the rocky pavement. Hannah also fell to the ground, her hands covered her ears and she folded into the fetal position, whimpering in pain. Gerard ran up to her and lifted her from the pavement and into his arms, shushing her like one would a crying toddler. She trembled in his arms. Frank and Mikey stumbled out in a drunken stupor, as did a few neighbors, all wondering what the going on.

“Jenna, what are you doing here?” Gerard gave her an icy stare, still attempting to calm Hannah.

“I’ll explain later, but right now we have a bigger problem. B, grab Ari and bring her anywhere but here. I’ll go make sure the neighbors don’t call the friggin cops on us.” And with that she was off, flipping her hair over the shoulder and using her beauty and high-pitch voice to charm herself out of trouble once again. It did come in handy, though. I scooped a disintegrating Ari into my arms and carried her back to the house, with Gerard and a shaking Hannah at my heels.

Notes

I thought this would be easier from Bob's POV, Sorry if it seems too sophisticated, I thought since Bob is over 300 years old, a little wisdom was in order. I thought it was okay, don't hate me please >.> I tried to explain as much as I could without making the chapter too long or boring. I think this may be one of the longest chapters I've written.
