Keep Me Safe from Myself

Please Stay Forever With Me

**Hannah POV**

So say it, say I'm in love, cause you called me

crying from your job, said you just got fired.
And you don't have a backup plan,
so don't expect me to understand.

My eyes flew open and darted towards the clock. 6:30 flashed on the screen, exactly as I’d set it. Normally, I’d be groaning and in a pissy mood, but today was an exception. Today was the day Gerard was coming home.

“Diamond bullet, and a gun made of gold. She was covered in blood, last seen in San Francisco.” I giggled and sang along to my favorite part. I rubbed my eyes to the beat with my sleeves and sat up, taking in my surroundings. Yep, my room was still a disaster zone. I glanced out the window to the left of my bed. Sunlight wasn’t exactly shining through the windows yet, the sunrise was just starting to break over the horizon. The outside looked just as dark and dreary as ever. Wait, hold up.

I stared at the big maple tree that separated the two houses opposite mine. A dark figure leaned against it. I could barely make out the stranger wearing a hoodie and baggy jeans, but nothing else. I leaned closer to the window, trying to see if I recognized the stranger. The sunlight continued to creep up past the ground, and the stranger flung off their hood off their head. Bright blue curls tumbled down her shoulders, stopping about halfway down her back. Anxiety fluttered in my chest and I coughed, twice, causing her to turn towards me. She stared through my window with her piercing brown eyes, whipping her blue bangs out of her face. I looked closer. No, her eyes were too light to be brown. Amber, maybe? I waved uncomfortably, forcing a smile on my face. She blinked twice and turned her back from me, and walked back up the street. I hadn’t seen her around before, but she looked about Blaze’s age. Maybe she knew her?

I focused my attention back on the clock. It was only 6:35, but Gerard’s plane landed at 8:00, and it still took at least an hour to drive to the airport. Plus, I had to pick up Blai-Blaze. Blaze. God, I hated calling her that. I loved her actual name, Blair. I mean I kind of understood why she didn’t want to be called that anymore, but it didn’t make me love the name any less.

I sighed and stepped into the bathroom for a quick shower. I didn’t turn on my music like usual. I only wanted to be in there for no more than ten minutes, and my playlist would make sure I didn’t leave till noon.

After fifteen grueling minutes I slipped my nightwear back on. There was no point- I didn’t need to be dressed up, and I love this sweatshirt so why should I change? I made a mad dash towards the kitchen and popped some bread in the toaster, and grabbed a Mountain Dew from the fridge. The toast popped out just as I finished my first can and I slathered some butter on that sucker while grabbing a second one. I rushed out the door and settled my food in my lap before taking Gerard’s car and popping the key into the ignition. It was 7:15. ‘Fuck.’ I muttered. I was gonna be late.

Blue-hair was still on my mind as I pulled into Iero’s driveway. Was she new? Did she even live near here? What was she doing outside my house? I honked the horn a few times without an answer. I rolled my eyes and began finish off what was left of my toast.

Ten minutes passed without any sign of life from the Iero house, so I walked up the three steps and was about to open the door when it suddenly flung open and a very antsy Blaze flew out of the other end.

“C’MON C’MON C’MON!!!!” She practically screeched, tugging my arm towards the car. “WE’RE GONNA BE LAAAAAAATE!”

“Thanks to you, Asshole.” I retorted with a smile. We opened the doors at the same time and I started the car back up.

“Well excuse me for wanting to look pretty, you look like you just rolled out of bed.”

“That’s because I did. I don’t have to take three hours and look like a supermodel to get my boyfriend to notice me.”

Her mouth fell open, and I watched in horror as she opened the door back up. She grabbed my mountain dew and dumped it all over the driveway, then tossed the empty green can into the front lawn. She closed the door and raised her eyebrows at me.

“You bitch. We’re gonna be even more late because I’m stopping by a store and pick up another one.” I glared at her, a sly smile on my face.

“That’s fine, I’ll just drive myself while you’re in there.” She sassed back at me. I rolled my eyes and backed out of the driveway. I decided against picking up another sugary drink. I think I can last a few more hours without one. Maybe.

We drove for the next 45 minutes in silence. I’d plugged my phone into the radio and was playing some Pierce the Veil, while she had her headphones in her ears. Shit, that’s right. I waved my hand in front of her face and motioned her to take out her ear buds while I turned down the volume of the near-blasting radio.

“Hey, have you met any friends while you’ve been here?” I questioned innocently. I didn’t want to freak her out by asking ‘Hey, some blue haired bitch was creepin’ on my window. You know her?’

“A few classmates, but other than that it’s just been you and the guys. Why?” She cocked her head to the side, wanting me to explain more.

“Oh, nothing. I just saw a girl your age this morning on my way to get you. She looked about your age with wicked blue hair. She seemed like the type of person you’d hang out with.” I smoothly lied. Well, it wasn’t TOTALLY a lie, right?

She shrugged her shoulders and stuck one earbud back in her ear. “Don’t know any blue haired people. Some black, some blonde, and one God-Awful red head, but no blue.” She stuck the other one in the opposite ear and I gave her a playful shove.

We pulled up to the airport and spotted all five guys waiting for us by a set of doors. I smoothly pulled up and we both rushed out of the car and into our respective man’s arms. They all looked extremely tired. Mikey had a grey beanie that said ‘I<3NY’ on the front, and Gerard had a pink fluffy feather boa flung over his shoulders. I giggled as I jumped into Gerard’s in a big bear hug, which he returned. We peppered each other in kisses before out lips connected in one long, meaningful embrace. My eyes were closed shut as I found the long string of feathers and slipped it from his neck and flung it around mine.

“I missed you so fucking much.” He half said, half murmured. His lips crashed against mine again and all I could do was sigh in agreement. I heard Bob loudly clear his throat in annoyance. I rolled my eyes and broke off the kiss, turning my head towards my sister and my best friend, who were still devouring each other in kisses beside me.

We mexi-packed the car; Bob drove with Ray in the front seat while Gerard and Frankie sat in the back with Mikey sandwiched in the middle seat. I sat on Gerard’s lap and Blaze sat on Frankie’s, both of us curled up in their arms. Blaze was asleep on Frankie, but I was too excited to sleep.

“So tell me about it, how was it?” I mumbled into his shoulder.

“It was… interesting. We recorded a few demos and I found out a lot about the guys. It was a bonding experience for us all, mostly. But you know what I realized?”

“Hm..?” I sighed, trying to keep my eyes open. Not even Gerard could make waking up at six in the morning a favorable activity. Now that he was here, there was nothing to keep my anticipation going, my adrenaline running. My eyes fluttered as I clung to his words.

“I realized how little I really know about you. So tonight, I figured I would take you out to dinner. We can learn more about each other.” His arm reached around and he tucked some of my hair behind my ear.

“Sounds fun..” My words began to trail off. Wait, why the sudden interest? I tried to speak up, but my brain was already floating out of consciousness.

He chuckled. “Sleep, sweetheart.” He whispered, and I finally succumbed to sleep’s powerful invitation in my favorite pair of arms.
