Two New Chapters, Same book.

I was holding my son. He was so small. His eye’s were closed but I could see the small lips and nose. Fingers and arms. It all was part of me. He was Lynz’s and I’s son. I felt a tear slip down my eye. The red fuzz that covered the top of his head was just so soft. Thin, almost like the line that was keeping me from full on crying.

“He’s so pretty” I mumbled as I brushed my fingers over the cheek of my newborn. “I want his name to be Rowan. I know that sounds demanding but that was what my grandmother would call me when I was still about three.”

Lynz nodded. “I like that, it fits him.” She looked at the little boy that was in my arms and I smiled.

“You get the middle name” I looked at the little boy in my arms once again and smiled.

“James. Both after Mikey and the fact that I like the way Rowan James sounds” Lynz smiled as I handed her our son and he opened his eyes for a single second. Just enough to peak out and close them once again.

“I like it. Rowan James Way.“ I smiled as Mikey walked back in. He had just called Frank so he could bring Mae and Ashton in the morning.

“Do you have a name yet?” Mikey asked as he looked at the sleeping baby.

“We do, and I think your going to like it.” I smiled as I looked at Rowen. “Mikey meet Rowan James Way”

I watched as Mikey went to get a feel for the name and his eyes lit up.

“Gerard…. Lynz…. Not only is he so beautiful but you came up with a name that is so wonderful, I feel honored to both have him as my nephew but the fact that he has a family name in his name that I share… It makes me want to cry” Mikey was all teary eyed and I felt like shit now.

“Mikey, we didn’t mean to make you cry” I cooed as I brought him into a hug. He let out a gasp and I laughed “please tell me you’re not in labor”

“No it’s just a kick but damn it was fucking strong” Mikey giggled as he seemed to be over the whole name thing now. “God he’s cute”

That night I stayed in the room and I would get up to take care of the small things that needed to done. I sent an email to the school and let them know that Rowan had been born at four pounds, nine ounces. I made sure that the sub had it so they would know when I would be back to teach the class.

I wasn’t tired for the fact that I was drinking way to much coffee but I would just power through. I was finally a father.
