Thick As Thieves [Mikey Way]

Chapter Five

After I called Jordan, I quickly made my way back up to the room, hoping Mikey hadn’t got out yet.

I quietly opened the door and still heard the water running.

Breathing a sigh of relief, I laid back on the bed again.

The water suddenly shut off in the bathroom.

Only just made it back.

I thought about what Jordan had said.

She said there are a few vampires that could read the minds of living humans.
But they’re either Vampyres or part Vampyre.
There’s no exception to that rule, apparently.

But Mikey---

My thoughts were cut off when I heard the door open and looked up to see Mikey walk out in just a pair of tattered pajama pants with no shirt and followed by a cloud of steam.

I couldn’t help but stare.

Come on.
He’s fucking gorgeous.

His hair was still a bit wet and his glasses, slightly foggy, sat right on the end of his nose.

He walked over to me and clicked in front of my face.

“Drew? You good?” he asked as I snapped back to my senses.

“Uh, yeah. I’m okay.” I said, shaking the towel off my head and throwing it into the bathroom through the now open door.

I grabbed my hairbrush, lazily dragging it through my wet and stringy hair before raking it up into a high bun.

He smiled at me slightly.

“You look nice.” He told me and I rolled my eyes.

‘So do you’ I thought to myself then mentally scolded myself.
I really have to stop doing that.

I smiled slightly instead.

“Thanks.” I said stupidly.

He smiled and sat next to me on the bed.

“You’re very welcome.” He said and laid back.

I glanced at his bare chest before quickly looking away and walking to the small fridge in the room.

“Hungry?” I asked.

He shrugged.

“Sure. Whatever.” He said and I threw an apple to him.

He caught it and quickly took a bite.

I grabbed one and did the same before walking back and sitting next to him on my side of the bed.

“Hey, just so you know, I talk in my sleep. And I’m prone to nightmares so if I scream in my sleep, just ignore me.” I told him.

He just gave me a look.

“If you start screaming in your sleep, ignore you?” He asked, raising an eyebrow.

I nodded.

“Yeah. Just kick me or something and I’ll wake up.” I told him and he rolled his eyes.

“I’m not gonna kick you.” He said and I sighed.

“Whatever. Do what you like.” I said, covering my eyes with my arms.

He chuckled and laid back next to me.

“Thank you for today.” He said quietly. “That must have been hard. Sounded like you knew her?”

I shrugged.

“I should be thanking you. Tully would have killed me if you hadn’t stepped in. And yeah. She was one of my best friends.” I said and he nodded.

“I’m sorry.” He said and I gave him a look.

“She was a Vampyre. She had it coming.” I told him.

He nodded.

“Yeah. I suppose so.” He said and glanced at the clock. “It’s gonna be light soon. We should probably go to sleep. I’m guessing we have to get moving as soon as the sun goes down.”

I nodded and looked at the clock.

2:30 AM.

The sun would be up in a few hours.

It’s not that vampires couldn’t go out in the sun.
That’s bullshit.
It’s just safer to work under the cover of darkness.
Plus, we won’t look at as suspicious at night.

Mikey nodded and scooted back on the bed, getting under the covers and lifting them for me.

I slid in next to him and got comfortable.

“Stay on your side of the bed.” I warned again.

He chuckled.

“I’ll try but sleeping Mikey is a cuddler.” He said and I rolled my eyes.

“Just shut up and go to sleep.”

Mikey

“Bled dry. A bullet never lies. Look into my eyes. Would I lie to you?”

What?

That was what I woke up to a few hours later.

I glanced over at Drew to see her mumbling something in her sleep.

“Stained grave. Do you feel the same way? Tears flood from our eyes. Would I die for you?”

I decided to watch her a little longer, taking note of what she was saying.

“Watch them fall. To their knees. As I lay I think I’m flatlining. Watch them fall. Thick as thieves. As I lay I think I’m flatlining.”

It was then that I decided to wake her up.

Just as I was about to shake her slightly to wake her up…

“I know you’re with me honey, but we’re going straight to hell.”

I hesitated and looked at her for a few seconds.

I’m sure I’ve heard that somewhere before.
I know it.

I shook her awake slightly and she looked at me.

“What?” She grumbled.

“You were talking in your sleep.” I said and she rubbed her eyes

“What was I saying?” She asked.

I bit my lip before answering.

“I know you’re with my honey, but we’re going straight to hell.”

She flinched.

“Uh, okay. T-Thanks for waking me up.” She quickly rolled over again.

I looked at her; well the back of her head, for a few seconds before something in my head told me to not question it.

I decided to try something a little daring, just to see how she’d react.

I snaked my arm around the bare part of her flat stomach, pulling her to me and held her close.

She shifted slightly but didn’t try to stop me or move away.

I guess that’s a good sign.

I heard her breathing even out a little while later, telling me she had fallen asleep.

I kissed her cheek, hoping to god she actually was asleep, before closing my eyes as well.
