Thick As Thieves [Mikey Way]

Chapter Twenty-One

Mikey’s POV
I followed the smell of fire to an old abandoned wooden cabin hidden on the peak, deep in the forest.
Makes sense.
It would go up in flames easily.
When I got there, the entire place was engulfed in flames.
Still, I blindly ran in, hoping to god I would find her.
Most of it had already collapsed but I managed to get my way through, breathing through my shirt.
Eventually, and as I was starting to lose hope (And almost consciousness) I found a locked door with someone coughing heavily behind it.
Drew.
I rammed my shoulder into the door over and over again, screaming her name over the crackling of the fire.
I stepped back and bit my lip.
It was getting closer.
The destruction of the fire was starting to close in.
I had to think of something quick.
I grabbed a longer piece of the wooden ceiling that had fallen and lit the end, holding it to the lock and melting it quickly.
It fell off the old steep door and I forced it open, seeing Drew tied to a chair and covered in blood.
They tortured her.
And I couldn’t stop them.
That’s when I heard the crack of the ceiling about to cave in.
Drew saw me and her eyes widened.
“GET OUT OF HER, MIKEY!” She screamed and the ceiling cracked again.
One chance.
All in the space of two seconds, I was over to her.
I ripped the ropes off her and pulled her away seconds before the ceiling of that room gave out and it all came crashing down over the chair where Drew should have been sitting.
She coughed violently and mumbled my name before falling limp.
I caught her carefully and lifted her up in a bridal style hold and trying to find my way out.
I looked around.
All of my exits were blocked by burning wood.
I had no way out unless I ran straight through fire.
There was no other way.
Getting ready to run, I squeezed my eyes closed tightly and took a deep breath.
I guess I was just lucky that vampires were father than any other animal.
I ran as fast as I could through the dancing flames, letting out a cry of pain as they viciously attacked my skin.
I lifted drew up to try and keep her from getting burned, not slowing down until I made it outside.
I laid her on the grass gently, safely away from the fire, and I collapsed a coughing mess next to her.
Gerard and the other guys were waiting.
Christian was there too.
I should have been mad but I was way too relieved to care.
I took a breath of fresh air and tried to clear my smoke-abused lungs before looking down at Drew.
Her skin was caked with dirt and her own blood and she was bleeding heavily from the wrists, thighs and left shoulder.
There was a bleeding stab wound in her hand too.
She was covered in ash and burns from the fire.
She looked horrible.
But to me, she was still the most beautiful girl in the world.
I brought her arms up to my lips and I licked the two cuts down her arms that were bleeding heavily, healing them a bit.
They didn’t heal completely but they stopped bleeding at the very least.
That was all I could do for her though.
I gently took her in my arms and held her tight, resting my forehead on hers.
None of the guys said anything as I held the singed princess in my arms.
“Drew?” I whispered, shaking her gently. “Come on… You’re scaring me… Please…”
She didn’t respond.
I put my ear to her chest and I could still hear her heart.
She was still breathing too.
My princess was still in there.
I knew she was.
I kissed her head gently and swept a little dirt off her.
I looked up as the cabin collapsed in on itself.
Drew should have been in there.
I winced and closed my eyes, looking back down at Drew.
“Is she…?” I heard Ray ask softly and I shook my head.
“No. Not yet anyway…” I answered and I heard four sighs of relief.
I glanced at Christian.
I can’t really be mad at him.
It was his best friend of the one he loved.
If it were my decision, I would have done the same thing.
There was a weak cough beneath me.
“M-Mikey?” Drew asked in a small voice, looking around weakly.
I smiled slightly and ran my hand through her hair.
“I’m here. We’re all here.” I told her and she smiled a bit, touching my cheek with her fingertips gently.
“This is cute, you know?”
My head snapped up and I saw a tall pale with purple eyes and long black hair, sweeping over one eye.
He was pretty young, but I may have been wrong.
You would never know with vampires.
“Who the fuck are you?” Gerard snarled at him.
He just smirked.

“That doesn’t matter. What matters is that I have a warrant for your execution.”
