Thick As Thieves [Mikey Way]

Chapter Twenty

Christian’s POV

And so, I ran.

I ran fast, and I ran far.

I know how that looked.
It was completely cowardly.
I know that.

I can’t save her though.

Even after they made a promise to leave Kayla and I alone, they came back.
I guess they thought having me there would make Drew speak.
Didn’t happen though did it?

So I just ran.
I had too much to lose.

I ran for a while before I stopped bent over with my hands on my knees, panting.

I looked around but saw nothing but trees.
I was lost.

I decided that, even though I had no idea where I was or where to go, it would be better to be a wolf for the time being.

So I continued on four legs rather than two.

I ran off again, and as I did, I smelled something that made me stop.

I smelt vampires.

I let out a loud howl, hoping that if it was who I thought it was, they would find me.

I stuck my nose in the air, picking up their scent and locking onto it.
With another howl, I was off.

I ran as fast as I could, weaving through the dense forest and watching my footwork so I wouldn’t trip over the exposed roots.

I made a final leap through the trees to a clearing.

I sniffed the air once again and looked around but I didn’t see them.
I could smell them.
The scent was stronger than ever.
But I just couldn’t see them.

All of a sudden, a small stick dropped from a tree from above and hit me on the head.

My wolf instincts kicked in and I growled at it, pawing it and biting it.

“C-Christian?”

I looked up and saw the four vampires in the higher branches of two different trees.

I noticed Mikey looking particularly pissed.
I thought maybe he was just sad about losing Drew.

“YOU BASTARD!” He screamed at me, dropping down and hissing at me. “THIS IS YOUR FAULT!”

I growled at him and narrowed my eyes.

His eyes turned a shade of red I had never seen in a vampire before and he exposed his fangs.

Focusing all my emotions, I was able to quickly turn back to my human form.

Mikey was still pissed at me and I honestly don’t blame the kid.
I mean, I killed the girl he was in love with.

“You planted a tracker on her, didn’t you?” he growled.

I looked down and didn’t answer him.
I couldn’t admit it to myself that it was all my fault.

“DIDN’T YOU?!” Mikey roared and I nodded.

“They had Kayla!” I cried my voice cracking. “They had my wife and if I didn’t they would turn her into one of you then kill her!”

At that, Mikey kinda stepped off but I knew he was still pissed.

“Where did they take her?” he asked and I shook my head

“Where. Did. They. Take. Drew.” Gerard growled, dropping to the ground.
He was followed by Frank and Ray.

“She’s dead.” I said and Mikey froze.

“What?!” Ray exclaimed.

I shrugged.

“Probably. I mean… They torched the place…” I said quietly.

Mikey’s head snapped up.
He smelt the smoke too.

He looked straight over at the cloud of black smoke floating gracefully up into the sky and, without a word, he was gone.
With luck, his vampire speed wouldn’t get him there too late.

Gerard snarled at me and followed his brother.

Ray glared at me. “Traitor.” He spat before following with Frank.

I had nothing left that I could do other than wish them the best of luck.
