Thick As Thieves [Mikey Way]

Chapter Fourteen

Drew’s POV

I woke up the next morning with Mikey’s arms wrapped around my waist.

With a small sweeping across my face, I gently turned to him as to not wake him up.

He looked so fucking cute in his sleep.
I sound really creepy but you would say the same thing if you were in my position.

He slowly wiggled out of his grip and stood up.
His arms crossed over his chest as he lost grip on me.

I looked around our little campsite kind of thing.

Frank and Gerard were sleeping a similar way to me and Mikey, except Frank’s head was resting on Gerard’s chest and Gerard had his arms wrapped around him.

Ray was lying all forever alone against a tree.

I need to get him a girlfriend when I fix this mess.
When we fix this mess.

That’s when I noticed someone was missing.
Where’s Christian?

I noticed the word “Sorry” drawn in the dirt not far from me.
My wrist kind of hurt too.

I looked at my wrist that had a red bump on it, and it was stinging like a bitch.
Probably just a bug bite or something.

I sighed and walked over to Frank and Gerard, kicking them to wake them up, before Ray and leaving Mikey till last.

Frank groaned and glared at me from the ground.

I just chuckled at them and rolled my eyes.

I knelt by Mikey and shook him gently.

“Oh so HE doesn’t get kicked!” Ray yelled tiredly.

At that, Mikey woke up.

I rolled my eyes and flipped off Ray.

“Where’s Christian?” Mikey asked sleepily.

I looked at him funny.

“I know Christian is good looking but I didn’t think you were gay.” I said, kinda worried i9 had been crushing on a gay guy this entire time.

He sat up straight and shook his head quickly.

“No! I’m not crushing on him! I’m not crushing on anyone…” Mikey said defensively, crossing his arms.
His eyes darted to Gerard who was snickering.

“Did I pluck a nerve there?” I whispered to Ray.

He nodded.

“Oh yeah…” He replied quietly, earning a glare from Mikey.

“I can hear you!” He half-snapped at Ray who held his hands up in surrender.

“Riiiiiight… Anyway, we need to get going. Oh, and I think Christian ditched us by the way…” I said, a little hurt by the fact he just upped and left.

Mikey walked over to me and, without a word, grabbed the wrist with the painful bug bite.

“What the hell are you doing?” I asked, wincing at he poked it.

“Do you know what it is?” he asked, looking at me.

I shrugged and gave him a “What?” look.

“It’s just a bite or something. What’s the issue?” I asked and he shook his head.

“Are you sure?!” He asked, sounding persistent that it was possibly something other than a simple bug bite or something.

I nodded.
I mean, what else would it be anyway?

“Yeah. I’m pretty fucking sure. It’ll be gone in a little bit.” I said and he nodded slowly.

“Okay… But, ummm, aren’t we going?” He asked.
I could tell he didn’t really believe it.

“We’re ready. We’re totally waiting on you two lovebirds.” Frank called and I turned to him, glaring.

Mikey flipped them off and we walked over to grab the last two bags.

As I bent down to pick up mine, I heard it.

I heard a hiss in the bush in front of me.

I looked up and my eyes locked with a pair of lust-filled red ones, belonging to someone hiding in a bush.

It was hypnotizing.
I was frozen to my spot.
I couldn’t move.

About a minute into our staring match, Mikey noticed me.

“Drew, what are you doing?” He asked and bent down, looking where I was.

He spotted the eyes and yanked me back, picking me up with the other bag.

“RUN!” he yelled to the guys, running away from the scene fast.

I heard the rustling of bushes behind me and a louder hiss.

I made the mistake of looking behind me and I spotted a taller woman with twigs and leaves through her auburn hair. Her pale skin was caked with dirt and her face was covered in scars and burns, obviously from run-ins with humans that were aware how to tell a vampire.
Fire is supposedly the only way to kill a vampire.
I mean, wooden stake through the heart of course, but who wouldn’t that kill?!
It destroys the mind AND the body.

Mikey clutched me to his chest in a bridal style hold as he ran with incredible speed through the ever-narrowing clearing, and soon enough he was dodging branches and weaving through trees and doing his best to not trip over roots sticking out of the ground.

I looked around.
It seemed familiar.
Everything seemed familiar.

Suddenly, I spotted it.

“Mikey, circle back and get up to that cabin on the hill about a mile away.” I told him, nodding my head towards the huge house-like object on the hill situated no more than two miles away.

He nodded and sped ahead of the guys so they would follow him.

He jumped over rocks and continued to weave through the forest until we hit another clearing.
I could tell he was getting tired.

“Dude, drop me.” I told him and he shook his head, slowing down out of obvious exhaustion.

I nodded and squirmed to of his arms.
He tried to keep me still but I easily got out of his grip, hitting the ground, rolling and standing right back up and throwing my bag over my shoulder as I ran just behind Mikey.

He gave me a look and shook his head but kept running.

Eventually we lost the girl.
Well, we thought we did.

I walked up to the front door of the dusty old cabin that my family used to own.
We used to come up here every autumn so we could watch the leaves on the trees change colours.

I felt around in the rock-filled flower pot by the door when I heard that same hiss.

I dropped to the ground and she flew straight over my head.

I stood up straight and snarled and I could tell my eyes had turned the crimson they do when I go mad.
That’s the vampire in me.

She hissed and ran back at me, attempting to grab me by the shoulders and bite into the vein in my neck but I easily threw her to the ground and jumped on top of her.

I pinned her to the ground while she struggled and fought like hell beneath me.

The spilt second it took me to get knife strapped to my thigh was her window of opportunity and she took it.
She tucked her legs over her stomach and kicked me in mine, throwing me off her.
I was hurled back into a tree and I slammed into it with a groan.

“Mikey don’t!”

I heard Ray yell, and I glanced over, seeing Mikey desperately struggling to get out of his grip.

Big mistake.

Mikey distracting me gave her a chance to throw me to the ground and bite into my shoulder.

Mikey and I both let out screams at the same time as I threw her off me.

I became a little bit dizzy but I was able to get myself to my feet and seem like I knew what was happening.
She seemed to buy it.

She stood up and ran back at me.

No more fucking around, I decided.

So, when she tried to punch me, I caught her fist and snapped her arm like a twig.

She let out an almighty cry and only grew angrier.

Perfect example of the evil vampire.
I felt bad you’re her though.
It wasn’t her fault
Vampires aren’t supposed to be turned; they should only ever be born.
People being bitten and turned is a pure mutation.
It sends them crazy to be turned with venom.
They have no control over their actions and they don’t die unless killed by a hunter.

She tried to attack me with her other non-broken arm but I just caught her fist and threw her to the ground.

I brought my foot down hard on her leg and she screamed as I broke that too.

She pulled herself up again and lunged at me with her broken leg dragging behind her.

I easily knocked her to the ground and, with my knife in hand, I pinned her down.

I held my knife to her neck and she looked at me with the last remainder of her humanity in her eyes.
She wanted me to do it.
I nodded respectfully as I dragged the knife over her throat, ending her.

She let out a final whimper before the last of the life left in her left her.

I climbed off her and watched as she slowly turned to dust, floating away on the wind.

I looked back at the guys.
Ray was still desperately holding Mikey back but he left him go once he realized the girl was dead.

Mikey flew over to me and wrapped his arms around me, ignoring the blood dripping from my shoulder.
Good thing the four of them had fed.
Wouldn’t want a repeat of the other day.

“Come on. Gerard found the key you were looking for. Let’s go inside and get you cleaned up…” He said, gently letting go and taking my hand.

I nodded and followed him inside, closing and locking the door behind me so nothing followed us.

The cabin was still super familiar.
The smell and the way the stairs creaked made me think of my family.

I wonder how they are up in purgatory.
I hope they’re okay.
I hope they know how much I miss them.
