Desolation Row

I Think I'm Slowly Dying

Mikey Way strolled down the corridor, his mind wandering from free thought to free form as the shrieking tones of Ollie Sykes screamed in his ears. His brushed a strand of blonde hair out of his eyes as he made his way towards his locker, struggling to carry the heavy guitar which he had strapped to his back. The bell suddenly rang out across the school as he turned left at the end of the corridor, signalling the start of lunch. Within seconds, students filled the corridor; their blue Belleville High blazers lighting up the school with an almost prestigious glow as they pushed and shoved their way out of the classrooms. He sighed, rolling his eyes as he moved quickly towards the stack of grey dented lockers just a few feet ahead of him. He fiddled his blazer pockets for the keys and took off the bolt. The door creaked open; he barely had time to step out the way before a body came tumbling out from it, landing on the floor with a hard thud. He blinked several times to make sure that he had just seen what he thought he did.

“Frank what the hell are you doing in my locker?” He asked, raising an eyebrow.

Frank laid there for a moment, gingerly rubbing the back of his head, wincing as he looked up at Mikey; a large frown perched upon his face. “Fucking Scott Miller and his mates” He groaned as Mikey offered out his hand, hauling up his friend. He placed his guitar inside and placed the bolt back on, checking it was secure. “You know, I still don’t understand how they got you in there?” He said, tugging on the bolt. Frank cocked his head, screwing up his nose as Mikey turned to face him; struggling to hide the grin which ghosted the corners of his mouth. “Let’s not talk about eh, just thinking about them pisses me off” Frank muttered, shoving his hands deep inside his trouser pockets. Mikey nodded, smiling as they wandered towards the white double doors and out into the courtyard.

“So how’s you and Gee” He asked quietly as they made their way over to the old oak tree which stood grandly in the centre of the courtyard, the summer breeze rustling the leaves as the sun shone down upon them; warming them with its midday glow. Frank took out a pair of dark sunglasses from his blazer pocket and sighed; trying to avoid Mikey’s gaze. “We’re ok” He said unconvincingly. Mikey raised an eyebrow, opening his mouth to speak before Frank walked on ahead of him, striding behind the tree. Mikey followed him and found Gerard, Pete and Lacey sitting on the benches. Frank took a seat next to Gerard, who wore dark glasses and a scruffy uniform without a tie. “Got dressed in the dark did we?” Mikey said as he undone his top button, loosening his tie. Gerard said nothing, grinning as he flipped Mikey the finger. He glanced over to Pete and Lacey, who still hadn’t noticed he was here. He wasn’t surprised; usually when they were together Pete couldn’t keep his hands off her and even now, in the company of his friends, his tongue was still halfway down her throat. “Hi Pete” Mikey called out. Pete stopped, combing his fingers through Lacey’s dark brown hair as he turned his head to face him. Her red lipstick was smeared across his lips as a crooked smile sprawled across his face. “Hey Mikes, sorry I was a bit preoccupied” He smirked, nudging Lacey’s arm. She gasped, giggling as she nudged him back. “Babe stop it” She laughed, her dark green eyes sparkled in the sunlight as she smiled.

Lacey Turner truly was the most beautiful girl in Belleville High. She stood 5’8 and a size six hour glass figure every girl craved for. Her pale skin was always immaculate and, as every boy would tell you across Bishops Stortford, her leg and arse in that skirt was probably the hottest thing god had ever invented. Her eyes locked onto Gerard, a thin smile crept onto the corners of her face. While she may have been beautiful, Lacey had a tongue as sharp as a blade and could be a nasty piece of work if you got on the wrong side of her. “Hey Mikey, why has Gerard got a black eye? I saw him trying to hide it in Biology this morning” She purred, not taking her eyes of him as she spoke. The brothers’ eyes shot down to the floor, an uncomfortable silence hung in the air as Frank slowly reached behinds Gerard’s back, gently holding his hand to offer him some form of comfort. Gerard snatched his hand away, rising to his feet as he flashed Frank a look of hatred. Mikey shifted uncomfortably as he saw the corners of Frank’s mouth drop as Gerard sat on the other bench without saying a word; he hated what his father was doing to him.

“Hey guys” A voice said cheerfully, breaking the silence. The group turned and saw Patrick standing by the old oak tree, his glasses glinting in the sunlight as he offered the group a cheerful smile. “Alright Pat?” Pete said, rising from his seat and walked over to Pat, hugging him tightly. Patrick blushed as he struggled to speak. A young girl quietly followed behind him, her long blonde hair hung loose down the back of her dark blue blazer which almost seemed to match her eyes. She smiled a weak and nervous smile as she folded her arms against her chest. “Pat?” She said quietly, her voice so beautifully angelic that it made Mikey’s heart skipped a beat. Patrick snapped back into focus, gently shaking his head as he placed an arm around her. “Everyone this is Jane, she’s just moved here from St Mary’s” He said. Lacey looked her up and down, her eyes studying Jane; trying to suss her out before whipping her head back towards Pete. “Babe I’m gonna go, it just got super awkward here” She moaned, rolling her eyes. Pete shrugged, opening his mouth to speak before she grabbed him by the tie and pulling him in; her tongue moving erotically in time with his as she pulled harder on his tie. Gerard groaned, taking one last swig of his drink before tossing it to the ground and storming off. Frank looked at Mikey and Patrick, sighing sadly to himself before he walked away, trying to catch up with Gerard.

Patrick shifted uncomfortably, unable to take his eyes off Pete as she detached herself from his face; god he hated her. She was so two faced and it was obvious that she was using him, making a fool out of him. He shuddered; he didn’t want to have that row again. Mikey rubbed the back of his head, nervously smiling at Jane. “So um... Hi I’m Mikey, sorry about Gerard he can be a bit of an arsehole sometimes” He stammered, feeling his cheek flush a hot red. Jane smiled, playing with her hair. “It’s ok” she said shyly, keeping her eye on Patrick who was now talking to Pete. Her smile quickly dropped, refusing to listen to Mikey as she carefully watched him.

Jane took her seat in class, taking out her books as she looked around the room; posters promoting math Universities plastered the yellowed walls of the room as a plastic pot plant sat in the corner behind the teacher’s desk. “That seems odd” she thought to herself as she began to copy down the sums the teacher had written on the white board. “Hey you’re Jane right?” A high pitched voice said. Jane looked up and found herself staring into the grinning face of Lacey Turner. She nodded, offering a weak smile in return as Lacey sat down next to her, a waft of cheap perfume hitting her like a brick wall. “You know normally I don’t like girls from the religious school but your just adorable” She said sweetly, checking her hair in a compact mirror before taking her books out of her Louis Vuitton handbag. “Erm thanks?” Jane replied uncertainly, trying to get on with her work. Lacey closed her book, still grinning as she caught her eye. “So how do you know Patrick” She asked, keeping her hand on the book until she heard what she wanted to hear. Jane brushed a strand of blonde hair out of her eyes, her heart fluttering as she responded to her question. “He’s my boyfriend” She said lovingly.
