Rock And Roll Ruined My Life- Chapter 33- Pure Happiness :)

Ring!

I bolted up out of Spanish before anyone else had time to stand up. I tossed all of my books into my bag, not caring if I didn’t have homework in every subject, locked my lock and went down to the main entrance where I waited for Kat. As soon as I was about to take out my phone to text her, a hand grabbed my arm and began dragging me down the hallway. I looked down to see a little blond ponytail leading the way.

“Sorry I took so long,” she panted obviously out of breath but excited at the same time.
“It’s okay, I just got down here myself.”
“Who’s car are we taking again?”
“Um Gerard’s. Look there he is!” I pointed to the familiar car across the street and rushed down the steps.

We crossed and tossed our backpacks in the trunk with our bags. I pulled open the door to see Lindsey, Bandit, and Mikey sitting in the car. Lindsey was in the passenger seat and Mikey and Bandit had the middle seat. I climbed over them and took the third row, Kat followed suit. As soon as Gerard stepped on the gas we both screamed in excitement and everybody else laughed.

I took out my phone and texted Alex and Jack that we were on the way and Kat texted Zack but didn’t tell him she was coming- she wanted it to be a surprise. I took out my iPod and gave one headphone to Kat, before you know it we were both jamming out and laughing.

****************************************************************************************************

“Okay, everybody out!” Lindsey said, waking me up from my nap.
“Wha? Are we there yet?” I asked groggily
“No, but we’re stopping to get a bite to eat and then we’re gunna’ keep going.”
“Oh, okay… Kat, wake up,” I said poking her arm. Her head was on my right arm, and her phone was clutched her other hand.
“Kat, c’mon we gotta get out…Kaaaaat!” I shook her arm for two minutes before she sat up and rubbed her eyes.

“We’re just gunna’ grab a bite to eat before we get there,” Lindsey explained, helping her get out of the car.
“Okay,” Kat nodded. I held out my hand for Lindsey to help pull me out and once we stretched we walked into the little pit stop.

“McDonald’s or Burger King or Arby’s?” Lindsey asked us.
“Burger King,” we both said in unison.
“Okay. Kat what do you want?”
“Oh, I have my own money it’s okay. Thank you though,” Kat said taking out her wallet.
“No, we’re paying. Your money is no use when you’re traveling with the Ways,” Lindsey smiled.
“If you insist, I’ll have a number three with no tomatoes or onions please.”
“I’ll have the medium chicken fries,” I added to Kat’s order.
“Okay I got it. You guys can go to the bathroom or go to Starbucks while I’m ordering.”
We ended up doing both of those things and before we knew it we were back on the road.

“What songs do you think they’ll play?” Kat asked me as the never-ending forest zoomed past our windows.
“I think they’ll do a few songs from their album and then maybe they’ll do a cover or two,” I responded still feeling sleepy.
“We need to wake up! Here, drink your frappuccino,” Kat passed me my caffeinated drink.
“Gracias,” I replied before taking a sip.

“How’re you guys doing back there?” Lindsey asked, using the back mirror to look behind her.
“We’re doing good,” Mikey smiled.
“Mama!” Bandit clapped.
“Good,” Kat and I replied.
“Alright we’re almost there. The sign said, like, two more miles.”
“Yay!” I clapped. I looked at my phone; it was 5:20. By the time we’d get to the hotel it would be 5:30 or maybe later. That means we didn’t have much time to change, but we would have to make due. I showed Kat my screen and she nodded understandingly.

I pulled up a blank text:

- Hey we are almost at the hotel! Super excited :D – Julie

And sent it to Jack and Alex.

- awesome can’t wait! gotta go do sound check c you soon – alex
- i can’t wait to see you ;) do u know what hotel ur staying at? – jack

My heart fluttered at the last text and I showed it to Kat who joined me in my silent squeals. In the end Mikey ended up turning around and looking at us like we were crazy but I didn’t care. I was going to see Jack soon and that was all that mattered. I pulled up a blank text and replied:

- I can’t wait to see you either and I don’t know where we’re staying lol I’ll find out in a few seconds though. And go do sound check! I don’t want you to get in trouble :P

- too late. gotta go c you later. try to get a spot in the front- bye

I laughed and showed Kat. But by the time I locked my phone we were at the hotel and we were already unloading the car.

I jumped out, handed Kat her stuff, then grabbed my stuff and followed Gerard and Lindsey who were leading us to the lobby of the Holiday Inn. We checked in and it turned out Kat and I got our own room! It was huge and had two beds, a little living room area, a little counter top with a microwave, and a nice sized bathroom. We immediately began getting ready. I really just had to change clothes and fix my hair, but Kat was going all out with makeup and the works

“Want me to put some on for you?” she asked, referring to my pathetic lack of beauty skills.
“No I’m good, thanks,” I smiled. Instead, I watched her put everything on. She looked back in the mirror and was finished with her whole face in three minutes, she deserved a freaking trophy for that! How she made it look so easy I have no idea.

“Ready to go?” I asked putting my room card into my little messenger bag.
“Yup! Let’s go to the lobby and wait for everyone.”
“Okay,” I said leading the way to the elevator.

“Hey, we know you!” A familiar voice called out to us as soon as we stepped off the elevator. I turned around to see the Rev, Matt, Zack, Brian, and Johnny all grinning at us from the sofa by the TV.
“Oh my God! Hi!” I rushed over and gave all of them hugs. Kat stood there in hesitance. I straightened out and walked over to her.

“Avenged Sevenfold, this is Kat. Kat, Avenged Sevenfold,” I smiled.
“Hey, Kat!”
“What’s up?”
“Sit down, guys.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“How’re you doing?”

We sat down in the chairs opposite the guys. We began talking when no sooner had Frank and Ray walked in and stood with us. Finally, Gerard and Mikey came downstairs.

“Where were you guys?” Matt asked.
“We wanted to wait for Jamia and Alicia to get here,” Gerard explained.
“Well, their concert starts at 6 and it’s 5:59. I think you guys should get going,” the Rev said snapping his phone shut.
“Crap. Sorry, guys,” Gerard apologized motioning for us to follow him to the parking lot.

We got into the car and took off. It was 6:05 by the time we got to the little pub/tavern thingy. I saw a few teenagers standing outside the place on their cell phones and one worker with a black apron smoking a cigarette.

“Jules, you know the drill. We’ll catch you guys later. Lindsey’s at the hotel with Jamia and Alicia and us guys will be out. Call any of us if anything. Have fun!”
“Bye, see you guys,” I replied climbing out of the car.
“Thanks for the ride!” Kat said as she climbed out behind me. With that they sped off and we walked inside.

The guys had literally just started playing their first song when we got on line to pay. The place was pretty crowded but not so crowded that we couldn’t get close to the front. I turned to Kat and smiled as we jammed out to the beat. It was $20 bucks to get in including drinks and snacks. We both paid and got an “X” written on the back of our hands.

“I’m thirsty!” I yelled to Kat over the music.
“Okay!” she nodded. We walked over to the bar and the guy from behind the counter looked up, waiting for our order.

“Stewart’s Root beer, please!” I called out.
“Dr. Pepper, please!” Kat asked. He nodded his head and passed me a bottle and poured Kat her drink.

“Thanks!” We replied before walking down and cutting into the crowd. We were about five rows of people back.

Before we knew it, we were jamming out with the rest of the crowd and singing along with the parts of the songs we remembered. At one point I yelled extra loud at the end of a song to see if I could get their attention.

“That’s what I’m talking about!” Alex grinned as he caught sight of me in the crowd. The rest of the crowd joined in my screams and Jack caught my eye and winked. I laughed and was thankful for the lights being dimmed, I was sure I was crimson from all of the attention.

Once they finished playing all of their songs, they stopped to take a little water break on the stage.

“How’re you all doing tonight?” Alex asked. The crowd shouted in response.
“That’s good, that’s good. How’re you all enjoying the music so far?” The crowd shouted back even louder.
“You guys are the best! Alright, we’re gunna play a little Blink for you guys, okay?” We all started jumping around in excitement. They chose The Rock Show.

“HANGING OUT BEHIND THE CLUB ON THE WEEKEND,
ACTING STUPID, GETTING DRUNK WITH MY BEST FRIENDS!
I COULDN'T WAIT FOR THE SUMMER AND THE WARPED TOUR
I REMEMBER IT'S THE FIRST TIME THAT I SAW HER THERE!

SHE'S GETTING KICKED OUT OF SCHOOL CAUSE SHE'S FAILING,
I'M KIND OF NERVOUS CAUSE I THINK ALL HER FRIENDS HATE ME!
SHE'S THE ONE, SHE'LL ALWAYS BE THERE,
SHE TOOK MY HAND AND THAT MADE IT I SWEAR!

BECAUSE I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE GIRL AT THE ROCK SHOW,
SHE SAID "WHAT?" AND I TOLD HER THAT I DIDN'T KNOW
SHE'S SO COOL, I'M GONNA SNEAK IN THROUGH HER WINDOW

EVERYTHING'S BETTER WHEN SHE'S AROUND!
I CAN'T WAIT TILL HER PARENTS GO OUT OF TOWN!
I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE GIRL AT THE ROCK SHOW!”

Kat and I just stood there singing out hearts out along with the rest of the crowd.

“WHEN WE SAID WE WERE GONNA MOVE TO VEGAS,
I REMEMBER THE LOOK HER MOTHER GAVE US!
SEVENTEEN WITHOUT A PURPOSE OR DIRECTION,
WE DON'T OWE ANYONE A FUCKING EXPLANATION!

I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE GIRL AT THE ROCK SHOW,
SHE SAID "WHAT?" AND I TOLD HER THAT I DIDN'T KNOW,
SHE'S SO COOL, I'M GONNA SNEAK IN THROUGH HER WINDOW

EVERYTHING'S BETTER WHEN SHE'S AROUND!
I CAN'T WAIT TILL HER PARENTS GO OUT OF TOWN!
I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE GIRL AT THE ROCK SHOW!

BLACK AND WHITE PICTURE OF HER ON MY WALL,
I WAITED FOR HER CALL,
SHE ALWAYS KEPT ME WAITING,
AND IF I EVER GOT ANOTHER CHANCE,
I'D STILL ASK HER TO DANCE
BECAUSE SHE KEPT ME WAITING,

I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE GIRL AT THE ROCK SHOW,
SHE SAID "WHAT?" AND I TOLD HER THAT I DIDN'T KNOW,
SHE'S SO COOL, I'M GONNA SNEAK IN THROUGH HER WINDOW,

EVERYTHING'S BETTER WHEN SHE'S AROUND!
I CAN'T WAIT TILL HER PARENTS GO OUT OF TOWN!
I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE GIRL AT THE ROCK SHOW!

WITH THE GIRL AT THE ROCK SHOW!
WITH THE GIRL AT THE ROCK SHOW!
(I'LL NEVER FORGET TONIGHT) WITH THE GIRL AT THE ROCK SHOW!”

“THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING! HAVE A GOOD NIGHT!” Alex screamed into the microphone as they held out the last chord. Finally, they ended with an epic power chord and took a bow.

It was a half and hour before they finished talking to people and started cleaning up the stage.

“Let’s go over,” I motioned to Kat.
“Okay!” She nodded.
“Hey guys! Awesome show!” I said. Jack turned around, jumped off the stage, and gave me a huge hug. He actually picked me up off the floor!
“Put me down!” I laughed. He obliged and then proceeded to give Kat a big hug too. Alex, Zack, and Rian all jumped down and gave us hugs as well. Zack was so surprised to see Kat, it was great to see them getting along!

“You guys were amazing!” I smiled.
“Thanks! I think that was the best we’ve ever played,” Alex grinned.
“Yeah, definitely,” Rian agreed.
“We just have to clean up then we’re meeting up with our girlfriends, so can you give us a second?”
“Wait… girlfriends?” I looked from Jack to Zack and back.
“Just me and Rian,” Alex clarified putting his arm around Rian’s head and giving him a nuggie. I sighed in relief and laughed.

“Let us help you guys so it goes faster,” I offered.
“Nah, it’s okay. We do it all the time,” Rian said climbing back on stage.
“No seriously! I’ve never helped pack up a stage before; I want to help.”
“Me too!” Kat added.

“Okay, if you guys want you can start wrapping up all of those wires,” Alex pointed to the jumble on the corner of the stage.
“Challenge accepted,” I said, striking a superman pose. We all laughed and then began to clean up.

I sat down Indian style on the floor next to the wires and Kat sat of the other. Together we untangled and wrapped up all of the wires one by one, tied them, and arranged them so that all of the same types of wires were next to each other.

“Damn, that’s the neatest those wires have been in a looong time,” Rian said before picking up some of his symbols and walking off stage.
“Really?” I asked, Kat and I following out behind him to the stalker van.
“Yup. Usually we do those last and we’re beat by that time, you know?”
“Yeah,” we both replied.

Jack and Alex came out with another part of Rian’s drum set, and Zack carried the rest. We walked back in, got the microphone stands and mics and came back out. The stage was pretty much almost cleaned up.

“Dudes, we’re almost done!” Alex screamed in happiness.
“I know! So freaking exciting!” I yelled back, picking up Jack’s guitar and putting it on.

“Hey, hey, hey! My guitar,” Jack said in a baby voice.
“No, my guitar,” I replied sticking out my tongue, going along with the act.
“Prove it,” he replied crossing his arms.
“I don’t need to prove it,” I replied, running out to the van with it.
“Hey!” He called after me, now using his normal voice. I took it off, put it in the trunk and then climbed in after it.

“Shut the door,” I mouthed to Rian. He nodded and shut the trunk; I was alone with the instruments.
“Where’d she go?” I heard him ask Rian.
“I have no idea, bro.”
“She’s so hiding in the trunk.” I heard him walk over and begin to pull the handle.
“How do you know? What if she went somewhere else?”
“Go in and find her then,” Jack said.
“Alright,” Rian replied walking. I heard two pairs of feet walk away from the van. I waited a few minutes before opening the doors and stepping out. Just as I was about to close them, a body tackled me softly from the middle and pinned me against the side of the van.

“I knew it,” Jack grinned, hands still on my torso.
“I can’t fool you,” I smiled. We continued to stare into each other’s eyes. Almost instantly, the mood changed. Jack’s pressure on my torso increased and he began to lean in when we heard footsteps coming our way. We broke apart and stood there, smiling sheepishly at eachother.

“See? You found her,” Alex replied, smiling.
“Yup, I got her,” Jack replied.
“So where are we going?” Kat asked as we all climbed into the van.
“Um to be honest we were just going to go get something to eat and then go back to the hotel,” Rian laughed.
“That’s cool! I’m like exhausted ,” I said, yawning.
“Same,” everyone replied.”

Before we went to wherever we were going, we had to stop at a motel to pick up Kara and Lisa, Rian and Alex’s girlfriends. I admit I was a little apprehensive but once we met them they were really nice!

“So, you guys are from Maryland too?”
“Yup,” they both smiled.
“Everyone from Maryland is so nice!”
“Aw thanks! You New Jersey people are nice too,” Lisa replied.
“And pretty!” Kara added.
“Please, I’m like the Grinch from Doctor Seuss,” I chuckled.
“No seriously! Both of you have such nice hair!” Kara went on.
“We should totally go to the mall together sometime!”
“That would be awesome!” Kat said.
“Yeah! What’s your number? I’ll add you so that we can hang out.”
“Yeah I’ll add you too!”

“Oh my God. You guys are killing me,” Alex said bringing his hands to his head as we stopped at a red light.
“What?” we all asked innocently.
“The talking. You people talk 60 miles a minute!”
“We just met Alex, what do you want us to do?” Lisa replied.
“Just talk normally, and maybe include us in a conversation?”
“Okay. Would you guys like to come to the mall with us?” Kara replied, leaning forward over Rian’s char and resting her chin on his shoulder.
“Sure, I’m in,” Rian nodded. I laughed and turned to Jack.
“I’ll go,” he smiled.
“Okay,” Zack nodded. We all turned to face Alex.
“I’ll go,” Alex replied in a reluctant tone.
“Oh cheer up, Mr. Grumpy Gills. He hasn’t eaten anything yet, that’s why he’s upset. Pull over to the next IHOP or something,” Lisa said rubbing Alex’s shoulders. Alex obeyed and pulled into an Applebee’s. It was only 8:30 so they were still open.

Alex parked and we all climbed out. We sat down and ordered our food, making small talk and laughing as we ate. Alex and Jack even had a mini food fight. Finally, when everyone was full, we made our way back to the car.

“I’ll drive,” I offered. Everyone turned to look at me like I was crazy.
“What? I’ve gotten better I swear.”
“I don’t know,” Alex said tapping his chin.
“Please?” I asked, giving him the puppy dog eyes.
“Fine. But if we get pulled over I’m not from this country- I’m from England!” he finished the last part in a brilliant accent. I rolled my eyes and climbed into the driver’s seat.

“So where are we going?” I asked.
“Um, you can drop us off at the motel,” Lisa said. I nodded and pulled out of the parking lot with ease.
“What exit is that again?”
“23,” Kara replied, leaning over onto Rian again.
I concentrated on the road before me. I knew driving without a permit was dangerous, but I was so good at it I highly thought I was going to get pulled over. I made sure to go the speed limit and before I knew it I was pulling up to the motel.

“Bye, Julie!”
“Bye, guys!”
“It was great meeting you!”
“Text me!”
“Okay!” Kara and Lisa replied. I noticed Alex and Rian got out of the car with them. I raised my eyebrows at them. Jack climbed around to the front and sat in the passenger seat. I pulled out without saying a word and right before I got out of the parking lot Jack rolled down his window and yelled:

“USE PROTECTION!”

We all burst out laughing and I had to put the car in park I was laughing so hard. Finally, when it was all over I put the car into drive and got onto the highway.

“What hotel are you guys in?” I asked.
“Holiday Inn.”
“Oh my gosh! Us too! Yay,” I smiled. I got us home safe and sound and parked the car. Not a single one of the other guy’s cars was in the lot. They would probably be out until, like, midnight…

“What floor?” Jack asked me as we walked into the lobby. Zack and Kat followed, having their own conversation.
“Third.”
“We’re on the first,” he laughed sticking his tongue out.
“Shut up! Kat want me to take your bag and drop it off upstairs? I’m gunna’ drop off mine.”
“Oh okay! Thanks! We’re gunna hang out in the lobby, right?”
“Yeah pretty much,” I laughed.
“We’re such losers,” Zack laughed.
“I know, I know. I’ll be right back,” I said walking to the elevator.
“I’ll come with you!” Jack said pointing to the ceiling. We all laughed and I pressed the ‘up’ button. The elevator showed up right away and we both climbed on.

As soon as the door shut, Jack walked over to me and stood in front of me like he had before, but this time he took my hands in his. My heartbeat immediately increased.

“Julie, I wanna’ talk to you.”
“Okay,” I nodded, my stomach filling with butterflies.
“I like you, Julie,” he told me, staring right into my eyes.
“I like you too, Jack.”
“Really?” he smiled.
“Yup,” I grinned.
“Well, in that case: will you go out with me?” My heart fluttered and I felt my face turn red.
“Yes.”

The elevator doors opened and we both stepped out. I took out my key and swiped our room open. I held the door open for Jack before closing it all the way.

“So,” Jack said pinning me against the wall like he had before, “where were we?” he leaned in again, eyes closed, he was only two inches from my face when I pulled away.

“Fuck! I’m such a jerk. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you feel weird-”
“It’s not you Jack. It’s just- well actually it’s embarrassing- I’ve never kissed anyone before.” He raised his eyebrows in shock. I felt my face flush and I put my hand over my face in embarrassment.

“Why?” he asked.
“I never let them. I didn’t want them to be the first. I was waiting for the right person. A person I trusted, a person I liked a lot. And it’s you, but I just feel so awkward.”
“Awkward’s my middle name,” Jack smiled. I took off the two bags I was carrying and put them down on the desk next to me. He took my hands in his again and stood in front of me.

“It’s not as hard as you think it is,” he smiled at me. I nodded, still unsure. “I promise I won’t go crazy,” he laughed. I couldn’t help but laugh too.

Then, just like that, our lips touched; a simple embrace that lasted for no longer than two seconds. I felt my whole body shiver with emotion. My first kiss. I just kissed Jack Barakat in the middle of a hotel room in Bergen County and I felt like I was flying. I grinned and pulled him into a hug and we stayed like that for I don’t know how long. Finally, we realized that we had probably taken too long and Zack and Kat were going to be making assumptions that were most definitely not true. We walked back to the elevator, hand in hand, and went down, never breaking the connection of our fingers. His hand was so big it completely wrapped around my own, which was saying something since I’m a big person myself.

“Took you guys long enough,” Zack said without looking away from the TV as we stepped off the elevator. Kat turned around, went back to watching TV, then did a double take at our hands. She looked at me, grinning in excitement and surprise. I returned her glance and did a little happy dance. Jack turned to look at me in a funny way and I laughed. Finally, we had to break the connection in order to sit down with them.

“Guys, no offence, but this is so lame. Like we just had the most awesome concert ever and we’re just sitting here watching TV,” Jack sighed.
“Where do you want to go?” I asked.
“I don’t know. They probably have a little club we can go into over here somewhere. It’s Friday night, I wanna party!”
“Me too! Zack, what about you?” Kat said, sitting forward.
“I’m down for anything,” he said.
“Okay we’re all in. Who wants to drive?” I asked standing up and holding out the keys.
“I’ll drive,” Zack said. I tossed them to him then began walking towards the parking lot. I heard loud footsteps behind me as we walked past the front desk, then suddenly a hand appeared around mine. I looked up at Jack and blushed. It was so weird to have someone want to be with me so much! The amount of attention I was getting was just over the top, and I couldn’t handle it. I rested my head on his for a moment as we walked, enjoying the quality time.

“Did I miss something?” I heard Zack ask Kat as we walked through the lot.
“Don’t worry, I missed it too,” Kat replied, her grin could be heard through her voice.

Jack and I made it to the car first and Zack beeped it so that we could start buckling in. Kat took the passenger seat so that it was just Jack and I in the back. I silently thanked her even though the seating arrangement would have ended up like this even if Jack and I hadn’t started going out. I strapped in and took out my phone to see if anyone had texted me.

“No news is good news,” I smiled, locking it and putting it back in my pocket.
“That’s for sure,” Kat agreed. Zack pulled out and got onto the highway.

“Where to?” he asked.
“The next town,” Jack said.
“You got it.” With that, we were on our way. Zack turned on the radio and it filled the pauses in between out little bursts of conversation. Jack took my hand again and drew circles with his thumb. I turned to look at him and once again, I felt the mood change. I couldn’t kiss him. Not in the car! What the hell is wrong with me? I turned away before anything happened and we both ended up laughing.

“Please, I don’t want to see a show in my rearview mirror,” Zack teased.
“Oh please, we all know what Zack really wants,” Jack retorted. I saw Zack and Kat side-glance at each other and then look away. At this point we were all laughing at how hormone-crazed we all were. Zack turned up the volume on the radio again so that the whole van filled with music. Out of nowhere, Blink came on- again.

“I always hear to Blink-182 when I’m around you guys! It’s insane! I never hear them on the radio ever until I hang out with you guys!” I said to Jack and Zack.
“We’re just that amazing,” Zack replied with a shrug of his shoulders. We all laughed and sang along, Zack and I singing the harmonies, of course.

By the time we got to the next town we went up and down the streets looking for a party or club we could get into. By the time we got to the other side of town our options were: Go to this random house where a rager was going on, try to get in the club on the corner, or go to another little concert at this tavern back by where we got off the highway.

We ended up choosing the little concert by the highway and when we were on line I realized Kat and I had left our bags in the hotel. I began searching my pockets where I found two tens. I hoped that would be enough for Kat and I! Turns out they were having an admission deal of two for twenty so Kat and I were covered. Unfortunately this didn’t cover beverages so we’d have to do without until we got back to the hotel.

“Let’s stand over here!” Zack said pointing to a corner spot with a few tables next to it. We nodded and listened to the band play. They were an older group, maybe in their late 20’s or early 30’s. They were very in sync and they sang a mixture of classics and new songs. By 10:30 we were all sweaty and tired from dancing and singing.

“Guys, by the time we get home it’ll be past eleven! We should probably start heading back soon!” I shouted over the singer as she asked the crowd how everything sounded.
“Okay! Hey, I’m thirsty I’ll be right back!” Jack said walking over to the bar.
“I’m gunna go get something too. You guys want anything?” Zack asked us.
“Nah, I’m good, thanks,” I smiled.
“I’m okay too,” Kat nodded.
“Alright. Be right back.”

“Oh my God they are so amazing!” Kat squealed.
“I know! Kat you’ll never guess! Jack kissed me!” I gushed, feeling my face turn red.
“Holy crap! No wonder you guys took so long!” she laughed.
“No, no, no! It wasn’t like that. It took me a while to kiss him because I had never kissed anyone before,” I confessed, blushing even more under the dim lighting.
“AW! That is so sweet! You two are so perfect!”
“How’re things with Zack?” I asked, wiggling my eyebrows.
“Awesomely! He’s been talking to me a lot more and I think we’re getting closer,” she smiled.
“You two look cute together too!” I nodded.
“Thanks girly! Oh here they come! Look they got us drinks too! I have no idea what they are but yeah they have something,” Kat said, squinting in the dimness.

“Hey, guys!” Jack smiled taking another sip of his drink before handing me the other one in his hand.
“What is it?” I asked, looking down suspiciously at the dark liquid.
“Root beer,” he nodded.
“Oh, okay! Thanks,” I smiled.

It ended up Zack had bought Kat a root beer too. From what I could see we were all drinking soda, but that was a silent wish. I knew the guys liked to party hard. I just hoped Zack and Jack didn’t have anything because I most definitely could not risk driving all the way home.

I finished my drink and took Jack’s hand to dance. He took another sip of his drink and then motioned for me to put it on the table for him. I smelled the surface before turning around and tried not to look confused- I couldn’t smell anything. It looked like a coke but I had my doubts. I decided to flat out ask him, he was my boyfriend after all.

“Jack,” I motioned for him to lean in so that he could hear me.
“What’s up?”
“Is there anything alcoholic in your drink?”
“Why, do you want a beer or something?” he asked.
“No. I’m just asking.”
“No, I don’t think so. I just got a Pepsi….”
“Oh, okay. Thanks,” I nodded. I took his hand again and began dancing. At one point Kat and Zack joined us and all four of us were jamming out. Finally, at 11:30 I motioned it was time to go. They all nodded and we walked out.

“Have a good night,” the bouncer/admission man said.
“You too!” We replied.

We got to the car and Zack took the wheel again. He rolled down the wheel a little bit and put on the radio to keep himself awake. I guess he was tired; I sure was. I took Jack’s hand and then put my head on his shoulder and snuggled up to him. I knew he was grinning as the sound of the engine lulled me to sleep. Before I knew it, I was out like a light.

***************************************************************************************************

“Julie, wake up,” I heard someone say softly.
“No,” I replied groggily, my eyes still shut.
“We’re at the hotel, though. If you want to lie down you have to get up first. And Jack can’t get up if you can’t get up.”
“Jack? Why’s Jack here?”
“We went to go see their concert, remember?” I suddenly became aware of the body I was leaning against and opened my eyes to see that I was in the stalker van in the parking lot.

“She’s awake!” Kat replied, celebrating quietly. “See? All she needed to do was remember where she was and she’d be fine.”
“You know me too well,” I yawned.
Kat backed up so that Jack and I could climb out.

After we had stretched, we shut the doors and Kat and Zack took the lead back to the hotel.

“I didn’t want to wake you up like that,” Jack said.
“Oh really?” I asked, smiling.
“Yeah. I wanted to do this,” he kissed me on the cheek. I felt my face turn crimson again.
“Next time, you can do that,” I smiled. “What time is it?”
“Um, like 12. Why?”
“I didn’t see any of the guy’s cars yet. Maybe they’re still out?” I reached into my pocket and took out my phone. There was one new message:

- Hey Jules. Gerard and the guys are still out and Jamia and Alicia are here at the hotel with me. Let me know when you get back- Lindsey
I texted a reply and sent it back to her. I was so tired I don’t even think I spelled ‘back’ correctly.

Zack and Jack walked us to the elevators and we both gave them hugs. Jack’s lasted a little longer, of course.

“ ‘Night, guys,” I smiled.
“See you,” they replied. Kat and I fan-girled one last time before stepping onto the elevator.

“I can’t wait for tomorrow!” Kat whispered.
“Me either,” I replied, climbing into my bed.
“Good night!”
“ ‘Night.”

With that, I fell asleep; not at all the same girl I was yesterday.
