Chapter 1
Present Day
I walked up the steps to Gerard's and Mikey's house. Well, Grandma Elena owned it, but my uncle, aunt, and cousins lived there with her. So whatever. I opened the door and called out to whoever was listening. "Hello? I'm back!"
"Hello Pumpkin! How was your trip to Florida?" Grandma answered me from the living room. I walked in and gave her a hug.
"It was amazing. I've missed mom's side of the family. But I also really missed the scenery there. The gigantic old oaks, the large lakes, and the older buildings in the city. I swear, the older buildings make me feel like I'm in the seventies or maybe even the sixties." I had gone to a small city in Florida to visit my family. My mom, dad, and I do this every summer.
"Sounds like fun! Did you bring anything home?"
"Yeah! I got a lot of stuff. If I hadn't taken my car, I wouldn't have been able to bring it all home." I had so many boxes in my car, I almost didn't have enough room for everything.
"Did you drop it all off at home?"
"Nah. I wanted to stop by here first. Where is everyone?" The house was very quiet.
"You just missed your aunt and uncle. They both left for work about twenty minutes ago. Gerard is in Mikey's room playing games with Mikey." I turned for the stairs and went to Mikey's room.
"Thanks Grandma!" I called before I was all the way up the stairs. I walked to Mikey's room and opened the door. "Hey!"
"Hey Katie!" Mikey said. He was sitting on his bed, but Gerard was nowhere in the room.
"Where's Gee?" I know Grandma said Gerard was in here.
"He went to his room to get a movie. Want to watch with us?" Mikey smiled at me.
"Sure. But come here real quick Mikey." Mikey came over to where I was standing. I closed the door. "I want you to lean on the door and don't open until I tell you too." Mikey gave me a quick nod and did as I said. A couple minutes later, Gerard tried opening the door.
"What the hell Mikey? Open the door!" He tried pushing but I leaned on the door to keep him from getting in.
"What's the password?" Mikey asked. Good boy.
"Um, open the door or I'll kick your ass." Gerard kept pushing on the door.
"Nope! Guess again Gerard." Man Mikey was on fire. He knew I wanted to piss Gerard off, and this would do it.
"How about I'll kick your fucking ass if you don't open this door right now." I looked at Mikey and shooed him away from the door. I moved away from the door and Gerard came barreling in. "I'm going to kick your a- Katie?" Gerard embraced me in a hug.
"Hey Gee!" He let me go and looked at Mikey. Gerard narrowed his eyes and started walking toward him. I stepped in front of him. "I helped him hold the door closed. Don't be a baby and hurt him." Gerard looked at me, then Mikey, and back to me.
"Fine. Here's the movie I picked out." Gerard tossed the movie to Mikey. "Are you watching the movie with us?"
"Yeah. What's the movie?"
"Orphan." Mikey said. He got up and put in the movie. I lay in the middle of the bed with Mikey on my left, and Gerard on my right. We skipped through the previews and played the movie. About thirty minutes in, I could feel myself drifting into sleep.
I was really tired from the drive and had problems sleeping while I was in Florida. I tried to fight the sleep, but lost. I rested my head against Gerard and fell into a somewhat welcome sleep.
When I woke up, I was in someone's arms. I opened my eyes and saw that I was in Gerard's arms. It felt nice being here. But he was taking me somewhere.
"What are you doing?" I asked. Gerard stopped and looked down at me.
"I'm taking you home." I noticed we were right by my car.
"How long have I been asleep?"
"Since some time the movie started. You looked really tired so I'm taking you home." He was still holding me. Maybe, just maybe he- No. It's not possible. It will never happen.
"Okay." It was all I could say. Gerard pulled out my car keys and opened the passenger door.
He had went through my pockets while I was sleeping. I wonder how many pockets he went through before he found it in my back pocket. Gerard set me in the seat and closed the door. I put my seatbelt on and he got in the driver's seat.
Gerard started the car and we drove to my house. I closed my eyes and tried to go back to sleep. After a while, Gerard began humming an unfamiliar tune. It was nice, and I fell back asleep
