Thanks so much! I wouldn't say that those 'typical' stories are necessarily bad. There could be a story with a topic that's been written about a million times, it depends on the writer, not on the topic to make it a good story. I personally don't like Frerard and don't read it but I'm sure there are great stories out there, it's just not my thing.
I wouldn't say my stories are different. A lot of people use things that happened to them and let that influence their stories but I never do that. I like to tap into topics and create characters that are completely foreign to me. Nothing I write is autobiographical. But like I said, that's just how I personally write. Each author is different and that's what makes it interesting to the reader. Some people like to read something they can relate to and others want to read something that's completely new to them.
PS: The header :) Not quite '16-year old Gerard' but that's how I picture MY 16-year old Gerard anyway (and it's not like he couldn't pass for 16 in those pics!
