Chapter 33: The Crow & the Butterfly

Irmarie P.O.V.
I woke up the same way Gerard and I slept last night: on the floor.
Gerard was still sleeping. I gently moved his hands away from my hips and stood up.
I started walking around the house looking for anybody. Turns out everyone was passed out in the basement.
"The fuck?" I asked myself.
I saw every one except Mom and Dad.
Maybe Mom and Dad came while Gerard and I were sleeping. But they have to be here if we're going to see Doctor Gale. I thought to myself as I made my way to the living room.
I looked down at Gerard who was still sleeping. I let him sleep and sat on the couch and stared at the T.V.
I'm not sure why I'm having such a bad feeling. Why isn't Mom and Dad here?
"What are you watching?" Gerard asked as he sat up.
"T.V." I said.
"It's not on." Gerard said.
"No, but I'm watching it." I said.
"Sass." Gerard said and sat next to me.
"I found my brothers and girlfriends but I couldn't find my parents." I said.
"They probably left to work." Gerard reassured me.
"But they have to be with me when we go see Doctor Gale." I said confused.
"What time is the appointment?" Gerard asked.
"Two exactly." I said.
"It's one." Gerard said looking at the clock on the wall.
"I'm going to wake my brothers and girlfriends up." I said.
"Are they heavy sleepers?" Gerard asked.
"Yes and I need your help to wake them up." I said.
"Okay." Gerard said.
"Here's the plan: throw cold water on them." I said. "That's the plan."
"That's a cruel plan... I like it." Gerard smiled.
"Okay. There's a bucket at the little ass closet in the kitchen. Get that bucket." I said.
Gerard quickly went to go get the bucket while I quietly ran to the kitchen. Gerard handed me the bucket and I started pouring some ice on it, then cold water.
When the bucket was full, Gerard and I carried it to the basement. Once we were in front of my sleeping brothers and Star and Coco, we threw the water at them.
"HOLY SHIT!" Rocky yelled.
"FUCK MY HAIR!" Spike complained.
"The fuck was that for?" Coco asked.
"Fucking. Cold." Vinny said.
"What?" Star said.
Gerard and I started laughing.
"Very funny." Vinny said.
"I know right!?" I laughed.
"Why the hell were you guys sleeping down here anyways?" Gerard asked.
"We watched four seasons of Doctor Who." Rocky said.
"Oh." I said. "Hey, have you guys seen Mom or Dad?" I asked.
They all looked at each other.
"No." Spike said.
"The last time I talked to them was yesterday before Mom picked Dad up from work." Vinny said.
"Well, they haven't came back." I said.
The room fell in silence for a moment.
"Did you called them?" Star asked.
"We did that last night before we went to sleep." Gerard said.
"Hm..." Star said.
"Well, they know they're supposed to take me to see Doctor Gale today. We have an hour to find them." I said.
We all started calling their numbers but they all went to voice-mail immediately.
"I guess we'll have to take you to see Doctor Gale." Vinny said.
"Yeah. We have, like, thirty minutes to get there." I said.
Vinny took me and Gerard to the hospital.
"I wonder where they are." I said getting a sad feeling.
"They must've lost their phones." Vinny said.
"And maybe they were home but we didn't noticed because we were sleeping." Gerard said.
"Maybe." I said.
"Hello, Irmarie." Doctor Gale said.
"Hey..." I said.
"Where's Mom and Dad?" Doctor Gale asked.
"We don't know." Vinny said.
"Oh. Have you tried calling them?" Doctor Gale asked.
"Yeah." We all said.
"Hm. Well, I guess we'll check you up without them." Doctor Gale said.
While Doctor Gale was checking my Heart Block, my head was somewhere else.
I was thinking where Mom and Dad could be. They never left us alone a full night. It was just weird it they did.
I was getting a bad feeling that something happened to them. They always have their phones fully charged and are always home before five.
Something's wrong here.
"Irmarie?" Doctor Gale said.
"Huh?" I said.
"Are you alright?" Doctor Gale asked.
I notice Vinny and Gerard weren't in the room anymore.
"Uh, yeah..." I said.
"I know you're worried," Doctor Gale said as he sat next to me.
"It's just weird that my parents leave us alone for a full night. That's not normal." I said.
"Hm. That is weird." Doctor Gale said.
"Irmarie!" I heard Gerard and Vinny run to the room.
A loud bang came from the closed door.
"Fuck!" Gerard said.
"Dude, did you just ran into the door?" Vinny said.
"Shut up." Gerard said and opened the door.
"What's wrong?" Doctor Gale asked.
"A police officer is calling us from Dad's phone." Vinny said.
"What?" I said.
"I'll put it on speaker." Vinny said. Gerard closed the door.
"Hello? This is Officer Monroe. Are you guys relatives of Curt and Rosa Hale?" He asked.
"We're the children of them." Vinny said.
My palms were sweaty. Why did the officer have my Dad's phone?
"Well, I see you've been trying to call them since yesterday and I'm guessing you guys are worried." Officer Monroe said.
"Yeah." Vinny said.
"Well, I'm afraid we have very sad news to give you-"
"What happened to my mother and father!" I said.
"Well. There were in a huge accident." Officer Monroe said.
I was speechless when he said that. My parent were in a huge car accident.
"There were sixteen out of twenty people dead. One of them was identified as Curt Percy Hale. I'm sorry." Officer Monroe said.
sixteen people died in the accident and one of them was my Dad. My Dad, dead.
I sat there looking at the white tiled floor. Gerard came to my side and started to hug me. I wasn't reacting at all.
"What about our mother?" Vinny asked, I know he was trying not to cry.
"Rosa de la Cruz Hale was taken to the hospital." Officer Monroe said.
"Which hospital is she in?" Vinny asked.
"Luke's." He said.
"Hey, we're at Luke's." Doctor Gale said looking at me.
I didn't respond to anything, not even the hug Gerard was giving me. I still couldn't believe my Dad is dead, along with fifteen other people.
All of my thoughts were to my long gone Dad. Flashbacks of my dance with him at my quince popped in my head.
"Irmarie." Gerard shook me.
I finally manage to respond by crying into Gerard's chest.
"Go and find your Mom. I'll be here with her." Gerard said to Vinny.
"Yeah." Vinny said quietly and ran off.
"I'm sorry for your loss, Irmarie." Doctor Gale said. "And I too have some news for you. You're still on the third-degree Heart Block. Come back in April. Okay?"
I just cried into Gerard's chest. I just wanted all of this to be a really bad nightmare.
"Come on. Lets go see your mother." Gerard said.
"W-what if she looks bad. W-what if she doesn't remember me." I sobbed.
"Well, we have to go see her to find out." Gerard said while wiping away my tears.
Gerard and I walked to my Mom's room. I felt like a zombie to be honest. After a while of walking around the hospital, Gerard stopped in front of a room.
"This is it." Gerard said to me.
I took a deep breath as he opened the door. Vinny was sitting down on a black plastic chair, crying.
As I walked in, I saw my Mom on the hospital bed. Her eyes were close and was hooked up to an oxygen tank.
There was cuts all over her face. Her hair was greasy and her skin was pale.
I stood there and let a few tears fall.
"They'll be here in a couple of minutes." Vinny said.
"H-how long has she been here?" I quietly asked.
"Since yesterday. A-a nurse came in and t-told me that she was put in a coma." Vinny said.
"W-why did they put her in a coma?" I asked.
"They're trying to avoid brain damage." Vinny said.
I tried holding back the tears but I couldn't in the end. All I remember was crying so hard that I fell on my knees and Gerard trying to comfort me before I fell asleep.
I woke up in my room. I sighed in relief.
"It was all just a nightmare." I said.
Nobody was in my room. I got out of bed and began to head to the door. When I opened the door, I heard someone crying. I stayed in my room, putting my ear to the wall.
"I-I can't believe Dad and Mom are gone." I heard Rocky cry.
"I can't believe Mom has to be in a coma." Spike sobbed.
"How are we going to tell her?" Gerard said.
"W-what do you mean?" Vinny asked.
"She probably thinks it was all a dream." Gerard said.
He was right. I thought this was all a nightmare.
I didn't realize I had the door open until I shut it and locked the door. I heard footsteps running to my room. The door nob turned but they couldn't come in since it was locked.
"Irmarie, open the door." Gerard said.
"Please. W-we know this isn't easy." Star said.
I laid on my bed and screamed into my pillow. I cried all night. I knew they all left me alone, except Gerard.
Every thirty minutes Gerard will ask if I would open the door but I wouldn't say anything. All I did was lay in bed and tried to suffocate myself.
Moon will come and start to comfort me, but I didn't feel any better.
I never left my room that night. I just laid in bed unless if I had to go to the bathroom.
I knew Gerard was still outside my bedroom door, waiting for me to open it. I wanted to tell him to go home and get some sleep, but I couldn't find my voice.
"Irmarie. Please open the door." Gerard said around four in the morning.
I couldn't believe that Gerard was still at my door, waiting for me. I heard footsteps coming to my door.
"Is it still locked?" Robin asked.
What time did Robin came here? It doesn't matter because I still haven't opened the door.
"Yeah." Gerard said.
"Irmarie, please don't do this to us again. Please stay strong. Please." Robin begged.
What Robin means by 'again' was cutting myself and staying in bed all day. Gerard knew what he meant by 'again' because he saw my scars.
I sighed and wonder what will kill me first, dehydration, starvation, or suffocation. Right now my bed is on suffocation and dehydration.
And since it was the beginning of Spring Break, I spent all my days locked up in my room. I felt guilty of having Gerard wait outside my bedroom door.
"Irmarie. Please give me a sign that you're still with us or I'll break this door down." Gerard quietly said.
I sighed.
"Please." Gerard's voice cracked.
There was a couple of quarters on my little desk that was next to my bed, I grabbed them and let them drop to the wooden floor.
"Okay. Can you please open this door so I can hug you. Please." Gerard asked.
I noticed Gerard will always ask me this around midnight. I sighed and laid there.
"Come on. I know you feel so alone now. I need you, please." Gerard begged and sniffed.
I sat up on my bed when I heard him give a soft cry. I felt horrible for making him cry.
I got up for the first time in about four days. My legs felt weak since I haven't used them at all. I sat down in front of my door. I rested my forehead on my door and closed my eyes.
"Please don't cry." I quietly said. My voice was raspy since I haven't talked since four days ago.
"Why did you locked yourself in?" Gerard sniffed.
I was going to shrug but then remembered there was a door that was separating us.
"Please go home for me, Gerard." I finally said.
"Why?" Gerard asked.
"Well, you've been in front of my door for four days straight. Please go home and go to sleep. Spring Break is almost over, enjoy it while you can." I said.
"I'm not leaving you." Gerard said.
"And I don't want you to wast all of your Spring Break on a depressed girl." I muttered.
"I want to. I need you." Gerard said.
"No you don't." I muttered fighting back the tears.
"I do. You really have no idea how much I need you." Gerard said.
"You have no idea how much I really want to hug you," I sadly laughed.
"Open the door." He said.
I got up and opened the door. Gerard came in and hugged me as tight as he could. I didn't mind it at all.
"I-I miss them." I cried into his shoulder.
"I know you do. Just stay strong." Gerard said.
He gently held my face and kissed me. I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him back. I blushed and the kiss got really passionate. Gerard pulled back and rested his forehead against mine.
"You need some sleep. I know you haven't slept," Gerard said against my lips.
"You and I both," I said.
Gerard nodded and kissed me again. He held my hand and guided me to my bed. We both laid down. I rested my head on his chest so I could hear his heat beat.
Gerard is the only person that I had been in a relationship and felt wanted. Yeah, I've been in more relationships, well, three if you count him, but Gerard actually is my first boyfriend. And in all those other two relationships, I never felt wanted. I felt more like everybody hated me.
I sat up knowing I couldn't sleep if I kept those thoughts up.
"What's wrong?" Gerard asked.
"Can't sleep." I muttered.
"I'll sing for you." Gerard said while he sat up.
"I thought you don't sing?" I asked.
"I don't, but, I'll sing for you." Gerard said.
He opened his arms and I laid on his chest.
"I painted your room at midnight..."
I smiled when he sang. He turned off the light and continued singing The Crow and the Butterfly by Shinedown. I slowly fell asleep.
