Hold on Till May
Chapter 32: Wait
Gerard P.O.V.
I woke up with Irmarie still sleeping in my arms. I smiled as I looked down at her and she lightly snored.
I gave a small laugh because I thought it was really cute.
"I heard you laughing." Irmarie muttered with her eyes still closed.
"Damn," I muttered.
We stayed in silence again. I'm pretty sure Irmarie went back to sleep.
I remembered that we had buried Grandma Helena yesterday. I still can't believe she's gone.
Have you ever had that feeling that death is really close to you when the closest person to you dies? Or the fact that you have just seen that person alive a couple of days ago and then you find out that that person died? I'm having that feeling right now.
I sighed and closed my eyes.
"What time is it?" Irmarie asked.
"Not sure." I said.
We both heard loud noises in the kitchen. Irmarie gave me a questioning look.
"I guess it's time for breakfast?" I said.
Irmarie and I started to walk to the kitchen very quietly. I saw a baseball bat and took it just in case it was a robber or something.
"Why a baseball bat!?" Irmarie whispered-shout.
"What if the guy in there is a robber?" I whispered.
"Good point." Irmarie whispered and push me in front of her.
I glared at her.
"What? You have a weapon, I don't." Irmarie whispered.
I walked down the hall and stopped in front of the kitchen door. I took a deep breath in and slowly opened the door.
Mikey turned around with a poker face.
"Holy shit." Irmarie and I breathed out.
"What? Why the heck do you have that bat, Gerard?" Mikey asked.
"N-no reason." I said and set the bat down.
"You thought I was a robber, again?" Mikey asked.
"What does he mean by 'again'," Irmarie asked.
"When we were thirteen he came down here while I was still sleeping and scared the living shit out of me." I said.
"And you thought it was a robber." Irmarie said.
"Yep." I said.
"Mom is still sleeping." Mikey said.
"I don't blame her," I said.
"Neither do I," Mikey and Irmarie said simultaneously.
We stood there in silence for a couple of minutes. Alicia came down and the toaster popped up the toast, making Irmarie startle and made us laugh.
"Shut up guys, it's not funny." Irmarie said, pouting and crossing her arms.
"Yeah guys it's not... it's fucking hilarious!" I said laughing.
"I hate you all." Irmarie said looking at the ground.
"No you don't." I said hugging her.
"No, I do." Irmarie said as she hugged me back.
"Really?" Alicia asked.
"No." Irmarie smiled.
Mom appeared. She sighed and sat down on the chair.
"It was your father. He said that Uncle Cam found out that Grandma Helena left a will." Mom said.
There was a pause.
"We're going over in a couple of minutes. All of our names is in that will, including Irmarie." Mom said and got up.
"My name?" Irmarie asked.
"Yeah, your name is in the will." Mom said. "Everyone get ready, we'll leave in ten minutes." And with that she left.
"No really, why is my name in the will?" Irmarie asked.
"Beats me." I said.
When we got to Grandma's old house, Uncle Cam ran to Mom and hugged her.
"She really is gone." Uncle Cam said.
"I-I know she is." Mom said.
Uncle Cam saw us and smiled. "Look at you guys, you have grown up," he smiled.
"Uh... the last time you saw us was December..." Mikey said.
"I know," Uncle Cam sadly smiled. "And who are these pretty ladies? Who is who's girlfriend?"
"Irmarie is my girlfriend." I said holding her hand.
"And Alicia is mine." Mikey said holding Alicia's hand.
"Wow. I do feel old now." Uncle Cam said.
"You're telling me." Mom gave a small laugh.
"Lets get inside. I'm getting cold." Uncle Cam said and we all walked inside.
When we were inside, I got the same feeling like I did in the morning. The fact that I am inside my Grandma's house was now weird to me.
Uncle Cam grabbed a couple of papers that was on the coffee table.
"Lets see. Mom left you money to pay for Gerard and Mikey's collages." Uncle Cam said to Mom. "Mikey. She left you her bass guitar. Gerard. She left you her piano. And Irmarie... I think that's Gee's girlfriend. She left you her guitar."
I can't believe Grandma Helena left me her piano. I have a lot of memories with that piano. It's also the instrument Grandma Helena taught me to play.
"Why did Grandma Helena left me her guitar? I don't think I should take it." Irmarie said.
"It says here that she saw how you enjoy playing the guitar. And that that guitar now has some memories for you and Gerard." Uncle Cam read.
I looked at Irmarie and Irmarie looked at me.
"Okay then..." Uncle Cam said. "Trish got the house."
"She really needs it." Mom said.
"Yeah. I have to go, Mia is kind of worried about me." Uncle Cam said.
"See you, Cam." Mom hugged him.
"Don't forget we all go." Uncle Cam hugged Mom.
"I know." Mom said.
"Well, see you guys later. Nice to meet you ladies." Uncle Cam said and left.
I stayed with Irmarie all day. I didn't feel like going home.
"Tomorrow I have to go see Doctor Gale." Irmarie said as we lied on the living room floor.
"I'll come with you." I said.
"You don't need to." Irmarie said.
"I'll still go." I said.
"I'm worried." Irmarie said.
"About your visit?" I asked.
"No. Mom and Dad aren't here yet." Irmarie said.
"Are you sure they come around this time?" I asked.
"Dude, they should of been here an hours ago. It's already eight." Irmarie said as she sat up.
"Maybe they went to the store." I said.
"I don't think so. They would of told us." Irmarie said and took a deep breath.
"They should be here any minute." I said to Irmarie while patting her back.
"Where's Vinny, Star, Spike, Coco, and Rocky!?" Irmarie asked.
I did notice the house quieter, which is weird in the Hale household.
"They probably went to go get some drinks?" I said.
"They don't drink." Irmarie said getting a little bit panicky.
"Lets called your parents." I said and grabbed the house phone and handed it to Irmarie.
Irmarie nervously dialed her parents' phone number. I can hear it immediately went to voice-mail.
"Probably out of battery." Irmarie muttered and dialed again.
"Who are you calling?" I asked.
"Spike." Irmarie said.
Irmarie waited for Spike to answer but that didn't happened.
"Try Vinny." I said.
Irmarie dialed the number but Vinny didn't answer either.
"Do you know Star's or Coco's?" I asked.
"No..." Irmarie said.
"How about Rocky?" I asked.
Irmarie dialed Rocky's number, but it was here in the house.
"Now what?" Irmarie asked.
"We wait." I said.
"I hate waiting." Irmarie said as she set the phone on the coffee table.
"And do you think I like to wait?" I said.
"I don't know. Do you?" Irmarie asked.
"Nope." I said.
"We should sleep it out." Irmarie said.
"Great idea." I smiled.
"It's only great because I know you're tired." Irmarie muttered as we lied down.
"Goodnight." I said to her.
"Goodnight, idiot." Irmarie said.
I woke up with Irmarie still sleeping in my arms. I smiled as I looked down at her and she lightly snored.
