Chapter 16: Heart Block Part 1

Gerard P.O.V.

Irmarie didn't look like she was okay. No matter how many times she said she was, I knew she wasn't.

I carried her upstairs to the living room.

"Rosa! Curt!" I called them as I made my way up.

"What's wrong?" Rosa said as she was walking down the hall to us.

"Irmarie doesn't look okay." I said.

"I'm fine." Irmarie muttered.

She says that, but she's not okay. She had her head on my shoulder. She was sweating, cold, and shaking.

"Yeah. You're fine. Come on, set her down on the couch. I'll be there in a minute," Rosa said and left to upstairs.

I carried Irmarie. Vinny and Star were taking up the space in the couch. I didn't want to be rude, so, I looked around the room and found a window sill seat.

I set Irmarie down and covered her with a blanket that was there. Window sill seats; not the best spot to put a person who was already shivering with a warm house and a sweater on.

Irmarie looked outside. Snow was still falling. There was some people out, but they were crazy!

Where the Hale's house is located, it's at the top of a hill. Not steep or anything, but it can get pretty bad trying to get up here in the snow.

There was a small car passing by. Or so it was trying to. But, the snow on the ground was inches deep, plus the small car. Yeah, I had no idea what this person was thinking.

The small car got stuck in the snow. The driver rolled down the window to get a better view.

"Go person, go!" Irmarie cheered on with a smiled. "Come on, you can do it."

I smiled at her childish behavior.

There was another car coming. This one is slightly bigger than the one stuck. Once it was near the small stuck car, the bigger car was stuck too.

"Aw," I heard Irmarie say.

Both of the men came out of their cars. Some of the people that were walking by, help both of the men getting their cars unstuck in the snow.

"Come on. Team work!" Irmarie cheered.

Eventually, both of the cars were unstuck and they continue their destinations.

"Well, that was exciting," I said as Rosa came.

"Vinny and Star were in the way?" Rosa asked. I nodded my head. "Vinny, Star, can you please move so we can lay Irmarie down on the couch?"

That was my cue to carry Irmarie. I carried her to the couch.

"What's wrong?" Vinny asked.

"I said I was fine," Irmarie said as I lay her down on the couch.

"Quit being so stubborn, Irmarie," I said. She just rolled her eyes.

I moved to the side and Rosa checked her temperature. "She doesn't have any temperature. Does anything hurt?" Rosa asked.

"Just my chest." Irmarie said.

"Hm. I'll bring some Viks." Rosa said and left the room.

"What do you mean your chest hurts?" I asked while holding her hands.

"I sometimes get these pains that makes me feel like I've been shot or stabbed." Irmarie said.

"You're going to be okay," I said.

"I don't know, Gee. I mean, is it normal to have chest pains at the age of seventeen?" Irmarie asked.

The room fell into silence. She was right. It's not normal for a seventeen-year-old to have chest pains.

Irmarie was about to say something, but then she wince.

I know I couldn't do anything about it. I want to help her, but I can't help her. I want to comfort her and say everything will be alright. But, everything right now isn't going to be alright. And Irmarie knows this.

"I want to go outside and built a snowman," Irmarie breathed out.

"Irmarie, you can't do that in the condition you're in," Rocky said.

"And with the weather outside," Spike said.

"I still want to built a snowman!" Irmarie said.

Rosa came back in the room. "Hija, you can't go outside. I'm sorry." Rosa said. "Coco, help Irmarie change into a tank top or something that I can rub the Viks in without the shirt sticking to her." Rosa said.

"Come on," Coco said.

I let go of Irmarie's hand. Coco put Irmarie's arm around her neck and they started walking away. I sighed and ran my hand through my hair.

"Rosa, can I call my family?" I asked.

"Yeah." Rosa said and handed me the house phone. I dialed my Mom's phone number. She picked up after the second ring.

"Hello?" Mom said.

"Mom, it's me, Gerard." I said.

"Gerard! How are you sweetie?" Mom asked.

"I-I'm fine." I said holding back the tears. I walked to the kitchen.

"Why do you sound like you're not fine then?" Mom asked.

"It's just- is it normal for a seventeen-year-old to have chest pains?" I asked closing my eyes.

"Gerard, I'm not a nurse. I can ask your father," Mom said.

"Please." I said.

"Hold on." Mom said. It was silent for a moment.

Coco and Irmarie came back into the living room. I sighed and hope that that Viks thing will work.

"Gerard." Mom said.

"Yeah."

"Dad said that she should go to the hospital. If you guys can't go, he'll come over." Mom said.

"Mom, I don't think we can go to the hospital considering we're still in the blizzard." I said.

"Okay, your father will come over." Mom said.

"I should probably tell them about this." I said.

"Okay, go tell them."

I walked to the living room. "Um, my Dad is like a nurse, you want him to come?" I asked.

"Yeah." Rosa said.

"Okay, tell him to come." I said.

There was a knock on the door. I ran to go get it.

"Dad," I said.

"Is it Irmarie?" Dad asked. I nodded my head.

"Dad, are you a nurse of a doctor?" I asked.

"Part time doctor." Dad said and walked to the living room.

"I told you I'm fine!" Irmarie said.

"No you're not. You're seventeen with chest pains." Dad said and took a seat next to Irmarie.

Irmarie sighed.

"Now, when did this pain started?" Dad asked.

"Last night. When everybody was asleep. That's why I couldn't sleep." Irmarie said looking at the ground.

"Okay. Now, I'm going to listen to your heart, okay," Dad said and got out the stethoscope.

"Okay." Irmarie said.

Irmarie took a deep breath and my Dad listen to her heartbeat. Dad looked confused for a moment. He stopped listening to her heartbeat and just looked at Irmarie.

"Can I check your pulse?" Dad asked.

Irmarie nodded and looked scared. Dad check Irmarie's pulse on her neck instead on her wrist.

"Your heart. It's out of rhythm." Dad said.

"What do you mean?" Curt asked.

"Her heartbeat is out of rhythm. Uh, Irmarie, have you felt dizzy? Have you been tired?" Dad asked.

"She was dizzy downstairs, when we were in the music room." I said. "I had to carry her."

Irmarie wince.

"Can you breath?" Dad asked. Irmarie shook her head. "We have to take her to the hospital. No matter what."

Irmarie screamed at the pain.

"Come on." Spike said. "Gerard, carry her to the blue truck. I'll drive. Mom, call Robin and Amy. Uh, Doctor Way-"

"Call me Donald."

"Donald, can you tell me what's going on with Irmarie?" Spike asked.

"She might have Heart Block." Dad said.

Irmarie started screaming again. Spike ran to get his keys. Star ran to the closet to get her jacket while Wolfgang went to her room to get some shoes for her.

"She can faint at any moment." Dad said to me.

I sat next to Irmarie and put my hand on her back. "Irmarie, breath, okay?" I said.

"It hurts, really badly." Irmarie breathed out.

"Just hold on. Hold on till we get to the hospital." I said.

"I don't think I can. The pain is too much and I feel dizzy and tired." Irmarie said.

"Listen to me. We can make it to the hospital." I said.

Irmarie nodded. Wolfgang came with her boots and she put them on. Star then gave Irmarie her jacket.

"Can you walk- you know, never mind, I'm going to carry you." I said then carried her to the truck.

"Off we go," Spike said.

The way to the nearest hospital was rough. Half way there, Irmarie passes out.

"Spike, she fainted!" I said as I wrap my arm around her.

"We're almost there!" Spike said.

When Spike parked, I quickly opened the door and carried Irmarie to the hospital lobby. "I need help!" I said.

There was a male and a female nurse. They saw me with Irmarie in my arms.

"What happened?" Asked female nurse number one.

"My Dad is like a part-time doctor and he said that she might have a Heart Block." I said.

"Take her so the doctors can take an EKG test," female nurse two said to the male nurse.

The male nurse nodded and took Irmarie away from me as Spike entered the hospital.

"What's the girl's name?" Female nurse one asked.

"Her name is Irmarie Hale. Irmarie is spelled I-R-M-A-R-I-E," Spike said. "And Hale is spelled H-A-L-E."

"Okay, age?"

"She's seventeen. She was born May 30th, 1996." Spike said.

"Okay. And you are?" She said looking at both of us.

"I'm her brother," Spike said.

"And I'm her friend." I said.

"Okay. We're going to do an EKG test on Irmarie. Do your parents know you're here?" She asked.

"They're on their way." Spike said.

"Okay, tell them what I said. You can wait in the waiting room. I'll call you when she's in her room." She said.

Spike and I walked to the waiting room. A couple of minutes later, everyone was here. Spike and I told them about the test.

"Where's my Dad?" I asked.

"He still on his way with Mikey and Donna." Rosa said.

"We're here!" I heard Dad say. "Did she make it? Or did she fainted?"

"She fainted on the way." I said.

"Is she going to be okay?" Mikey asked.

"I don't know. They took her to take an EKG test." I said while rubbing my temples. The room fell in silence.

Notes

I did a lot of research for these couple of chapters.
