Hold on Till May
Chapter 15: The Music; Day 2
Irmarie P.O.V.
When I woke up, the power was back on. Then again... I am the one in the family that always wakes up late.
So, when I went to the living room, everybody was up, watching the news.
"Morning Sleeping Beauty," I heard Wolfgang say.
"Shut up, Wolfgang or I'll get a real wolf gang to get your ass." I said while I went to the kitchen.
Gerard was in the kitchen, looking outside at the snow-covered city. It was still snowing.
"Talk about a blizzard, eh?" I said and opened the fridge.
Gerard turned around and looked at me. He snickered.
"What are you laughing about?" I said.
"Nothing. Just your hair. Let me fix it," Gerard said and came over to me. I had moved now since I had gotten the milk carton.
I swear I was still asleep because I felt like a fucking zombie as I sat down.
"Stay in one spot, Irmarie." Gerard said.
"Make me motherfucker," I smiled.
"Do you really want me to do that? 'Cause I will-"
"No I'm fine!" I said and sat down.
Gerard tried to tame my hair with his hands. "Motherfucker, you need a hair brush," I said.
"Well, I can see why you wake up in the afternoons and not mornings." Gerard said.
"Why! What time is it!" I asked.
"It's ten." Gerard said.
"You're shitting me," I said.
"No I'm not." Gerard said.
I groaned and banged my head at the table. "Ouch." I said with my head still on the table.
"Did she hit her head on the table, again?" Star called.
"Yeah. Wait! What do you mean by ;again'!?" Gerard called.
"Advil is in the drawers by the sink." Star called.
"Do you need some painkillers?" Gerard asked.
"Yeah." I said since my head started hurting again.
Gerard went to go get some painkillers and a glass of water. I said thanks.
"Is this why you don't wake up so early in the mornings?" Gerard asked.
"Yeah. I'm basically the devil in the mornings. I feel like a zombie right now." I said.
"Your Mom is making coffee right now." Gerard stated.
"Yeah. I really need it." I said.
"Well, what time did you sleep last night?" Gerard asked.
"Probably at four AM because I was being suffocated by Coco." I stated.
"No you weren't," Coco called.
"Quit eavesdropping on us!" I called back.
"That Coco." Gerard said while taking a chair and set it next to me.
"Can I use you as a pillow?" I asked him.
"Sure." Gerard said.
"Thanks." I said and set my head down on his shoulder. Before I knew it, I had fallen asleep.
When I woke up, I was in bed. I was confused because I remember I was sleeping on Gerard's shoulder.
I headed down stairs. They were all in the living room.
"Are you still grumpy?" Dad asked.
"Funny."
"I think she was born being grumpy, Dad." Spike said.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." I said.
I looked around the room. Gerard wasn't here.
"You're wondering where he is," Rocky said.
"Y-yeah..." I said.
"He's in the music room." Rocky said.
I nodded and headed to the music room, which was in the basement. The door to the basement was next to my room.
As I was in front of the basement door, I can hear a faint piano being played. The melody was slow. I started walking to the basement. I opened the door.
Gerard was there, playing with one hand. The way he sat made me think he was either in deep thought, or he was sad about something.
I walked to him quietly. I tapped Gerard's shoulder, which made him jump a little bit.
"Sorry." I said.
"Not it's fine. It's just I wasn't expecting you. That's all." Gerard said.
"You know how to play the piano. How come when Ms. Lee asked who knows how to play an instrument, you didn't raise your hand?" I asked.
"I forgot I did knew how to play the piano. And when I saw your piano, I remembered everything. All the things my Grandma had taught me," Gerard smiled.
"And when did your Grandma taught you?" I asked
"I was still in elementary school. I miss her." Gerard said. "I want to go visit her now. But she lives on the other side of town."
"How about after the blizzard we visit her. Just you and I. I would like to meet her." I said.
"She would love to meet you." He smiled.
"Move over." I said.
Gerard moved over to the side and I took his old spot. I looked at the piano keys. "What songs do you know how to play?" I asked.
"Songs that my Grandma taught me," Gerard said.
"So..."
"Not many. How about you?" Gerard asked.
"A lot." I smiled and he smiled back.
Gerard started playing some notes and stopped. I picked off from were he was. When I stopped, he smiled at me and started playing more random notes. But, it sounded pretty good.
"So, now that you are supposedly ready for the day," Gerard said looking at my outfit, "you ready to show me more bands?"
"Yes! Hold on, there's a CD player down here. I'll just get a couple of CD's." I said.
I ran to the living room, I brought Nirvana's Nevermind and went down to the basement. I grabbed the CD player that was set down at a little coffee table, and headed to the music room.
"Nirvana," I said to Gerard and have the CD to him.
"Hey, I've heard of this band before." Gerard said.
"Everyone has, it's just that some people haven't heard most of their songs. The popular song from them is Smells Like Teen Spirit." I said as I plugged in the CD player.
I felt a strong pain in my chest. I wince. Gerard didn't noticed it since I had my back turned against him.
But the pain, it felt like I was just stabbed.
"So, what's your favorite song from them?" Gerard asked while opening the CD case.
"Uh," I said while taking in a deep breath since I noticed I was holding my breath, hoping the pain will go away.
"You okay?" Gerard asked.
"I'm fine, just was in deep thought," I said.
Gerard eyed me for a moment then handed me the CD. "I asked what's your favorite song from them."
"Come as You Are." I said and inserted the CD in.
I sat down next to Gerard. My hands were cold and trembling.
"Are you cold?" Gerard asked as Smells Like Teen Spirit came on.
"Y-yeah." I said.
Gerard took off his gray sweater and handed it to me. I shook my head. "You need it more than I do." He said and slipped my arms into the sweater.
"Thanks," I said.
"You sure you're okay?" Gerard asked.
"Y-yeah. I'm just cold. I haven't had breakfast yet, so..." I said.
"After this song, we'll go upstairs to get you some food." Gerard said on held my hand. "So, what is this band about?"
"Uh, the final line-up of the band was made up of three guys. Kurt Cobain who was the singer and guitarist, Krist Novoselic who was the bassist, and Dave Grohl who was the drummer of the band." I said.
"Why did you say the 'final line-up'?" Gerard asked.
"Oh, um. After Kurt died, they kind of split up." I muttered. I felt tired for some reason.
"How did Kurt die?" Gerard asked.
"Committed suicide." I said. I didn't sound like myself. I know Gerard noticed that.
"I think we had enough talking for right now. And, you don't look okay. We should get you upstairs with your Mom and Dad." Gerard said and started gently pulling my hand for me to come.
"N-no," I said without thinking.
"Come on, Irmarie. This can wait another day." Gerard said. He walked over to the CD player and turned it off. "Right now, you look pale. For all I know, you can be sick."
"Fine. I'll go with you," I rolled my eyes and stood up.
I felt dizzy right away. I groaned at the pain in my chest. Gerard came by my side quickly.
"Come on, I'll carry you upstairs." Gerard said and carried me up stairs, bridal style.
Are you alive???
