Chapter V

Chapter V
After what seemed like ages, we made it back and carefully guided Jade to the couch. At this point, she was doing better and could almost stand on her own, but Alex and I were still skeptical. “I’m fine, I promise. Please just let me rest and don’t tell anyone else,” She pleaded. “No, we need to call Mom and take you to the doctor,” I said firmly. “And besides, why don’t you want us to tell Mom?” “I can promise that this won’t happen again if you just let me sit down, and let this go.” I wasn’t sure what to think. I did know that whatever was going on, Jade knew what it was. “Fine. But if something like this happens again we have to tell her.” “Okay, thank you.” She gave a sigh of relief.
A few hours later, and Jade genuinely seemed to be doing better. I brought her some water and a bite to eat, and even though she was somewhat reluctant (presumably because she didn’t still didn’t feel well) her condition improved almost instantly after she had finished. “Thanks for all this, Amelia. I feel better, and I think I’m gonna go to bed to make sure I feel 100% tomorrow,” She said after a while. I just nodded and watched as she headed upstairs. I was still perplexed about what could have been wrong in the first place, but I didn’t have time to think about it too much.
It was then that I remembered Alex’s strange annoyance when we greeted the other guys earlier that evening. I didn’t really have much else to do at that point, so I went upstairs to interrogate. I knocked on his door and heard him mumble to come in. “Hey, Alex,” “What’s up, Ami? Is Jade doing alright?” He said, looking up from his laptop. “Oh yeah, she’s doing much better.” “Do you know what was wrong with her?” I could tell he was worried about her, I was too. “Unfortunately, I don’t. But I think she knows, so I’ll get to the bottom of it.”
“But I came to ask you about earlier.” He looked confused. “About how you snapped at the guys when you asked what we were going to do,” “Oh, that. I don’t know, I guess it just took me by surprise that you’d be hanging out with a bunch of boys after what happened with Dylan.” After that name slipped from his mouth a shiver went down my spine. I think he could tell that I felt uneasy. “I’m sorry, Amelia. I’m just worried about you. I don’t want anyone to hurt you,” “I know, I’ll have to be careful. Thank you for looking out for me.” He nodded, and I left the room.
