Bob looks at the both of us, back and forth. Gerard starts shrinking back into the corner again, but I keep my arms firmly wrapped around his arm. I wait for the explosion, the pages and pages of word that will spill out of his mouth.

"Your boyfriend is a fucking vampire?" He screams, then flinches after I gesture for him to keep quiet. "Were you fucking listening to anything that I just told you? About how my cousin fucking died at the hands of vivid red? How he-wait-is that a fucking hickey?" He looks at my neck, which has a couple red blotches scattered on it. I rub my neck self-consciously, looking down in shame.

"He had his fucking mouth that close to your neck? He could've turned you anytime he wanted, y'know! It ain't gonna work out! You're gon' keep getting older while he stays the same!" I forgot how he gets an accent after he has been talking for a while.

But shit, I hadn't thought about that last part. I don't even know how old he was when he-you know-turned. "Would you shut up? First of all, I was listening, but fuck it, he's amazing! And second, Gerard isn't like those guys, Vivid Red, I mean, he's their main target! And yes, you think that the past 17 years of my life don't creep up on me whenever it gets the chance? IF he was aiming to turn me, don't you think he would'a done it already."

Bob sighs, leaning back and crossing his arms on his chest. "Fine." He says, his voice quiet now. "Go get yourself killed. And you'll be damned if I care when it happens."

And with that, he walks out and closes the door. I hear him telling my mom something through the walls, and flinch when I hear a door slam. I start shaking, and start blinking to hold back tears. Just like that, Gerard's arms are wrapped around me and his hands are running through my hair. He starts whispering soothing things into my ear, but it doesn't help at all.

"I'm so sorry-" sniff "-that I'm breaking down like-" hiccup "-this-" hiccup "-It's just that he was my only friend-" sniff "-and now he's gone-" cough "-and I don't know what I'm gonna do at school now..."

"Shh, shh, it's okay," he says, holding me a shoulders length apart. He wipes a tear away from my face, and I half-heartedly giggle. "I'm okay now." I say, smiling. "Good. Now I need to talk to you about a few things."

He takes my hand and leads me into the bedroom, sitting me down on the bed and rubbing the palms of my hands. My ring finger, specifically. "He said something that I've been thinking about for a while now. You're getting older, and I'm not. If we want to stay in this relationship, you might have to make some sacrifices."

I follow his train of thought and my heart starts pounding. I mean, it sounds naïve, but I kind of want to. Now that I have no one that love me in this life, I might need to start a new one. The thrill of being on the run, being in a group that shares one common trait.

"Gerard," I start, "I do want to, but not yet. First, I want to know your story-before and after. Second, I want to go over everything about being a vampire."

The look on his face was priceless
