The colours of humans

The colours of humans ~ a final word from Death

The next time that I saw Frank and Gerard, one was sleeping peacefully and the other eternally by his side.

I visited Gerard and Frank when they were much older, this was approximately 70 years later. Gone were the days that Gerard slept on the sofa with Frank cursing at him and hating his very existence and now unfortunately the days where the two hearts would beat together had also gone.

First I took Frank.

His breaths fading away gently in his sleep with Gerard's arm wrapped caringly around him. His soul approached me as if I was an old friend, a golden smile spread across his lips as he left the limp body and floated into my arms. There I stood for a moment, just standing and wondering what it would like to be able to float away into just memories, sorry, there I go again placing my own personal opinion right in the middle of the death of a main character. I'll try my best not to next time.

"Death is a girl?!" Frank chuckled at me as we both stared at the unaware sleeping mess that was Gerard, "I bet it must get annoying when people die and are shocked that you're a girl."
I nodded my head slowly, "just a little," I allowed a smile to spread onto my face as we turned to face each other.
"Do you think that he'll be okay?" Frank asked, signalling to the snoozing Gerard.
"I'm not going to lie, it may be difficult for him at first," I explained to the blank eyed Frank, "but I am sure that he will be fine in the end."
"Good." Frank smiled, allowing me to carry his soul as I backed gently away from Gerard and Frank's limp body. "Where to now?"
"I'm not sure Frank, usually the souls float away into the sky once I have them, but you don't seem ready, it confuses me slightly."
"Maybe I was always one to confuse Death," Frank smiled as we made our way out of the flat and onto the street, "Maybe we will have to wait until it is time for me to leave this world."

And wait we did.

For another 6 months I carried Frank's soul until the time had come. We visited a great many places in that time, the majority of the recently passed confused to how Death could be a girl, I looked to Frank in those moments and smiled. After an initial breakdown Gerard was coping quite well with the death of his partner though he missed him and often waited for him to return, I can assure you that Gerard didn't have to wait long.

His soul also greeted me with a smile, passing the same way as Frank: peacefully and in his sleep. He rose to join me and spoke kind words and thanked me for wishing him well on his way. It was at that moment that Frank's soul began to rise into the sky along with Gerard's at his side. They rose into a sky splashed with purple and pink, happy that they would be able to see their families and be together wherever they were going.

Now you may be wondering why I chose to bring this story to an end on such a note, why not finish at chapter 15 where everything was happy and joyous? Maybe it is to show that Death is inevitable and inescapable. Maybe it is to show that a fear of Death would waste away your life or maybe to assure you that when you pass there will be someone to guide you and whisper that last goodbye. Or maybe it is none of these reasons and I should perhaps leave the meaning of this story for you to decide.

Though one thing cannot escape me, I could never forget the saddest moment that I have ever witnessed was seeing the rainbows fade from their eyes. But now I feel that I understand humans more than I ever could. I understand how they are able to change and become better, how they show a wide range of emotion and what makes them human.

I feel that now is a suitable time for us to depart. But you must remember that you shouldn't act as if you are to live a thousand years for I will see you one day and will greet you with a smile.

You see every person is unique and individual but as an entire group I can confirm that there is no single colour that could represent all humans.

Hiya, oh wow...thanks so much for reading, I hope you enjoy the rest too. :D
i didn't mean to really describe death in so much detail really, I tried to focus on introducing characters and Frank and Gerard (later on) but her opinions just kept weaving their way into the story and then it just kinda happened and those opinions about death stayed.
I really hope that the rest will be okay, and thank you so much for reading and the compliments, your comment made me smile, so, um, thanks. :D :)
