Hopeless Hearts

Mikey walked downstairs the next morning, finding Gerard on the floor and quickly running to his side and crouching down next to him.
"O-Oh my god... G-Gerard.." He said quietly as he gently stroked his hair, moving his head to look at his face and seeing his broken cheekbone, black eye, and even some blood in the whites of his eyes. He felt his heart drop, this was by far the worst his father had ever done. He shook his head and got out his phone.
"H-hello.. 911? My brother got beat up. R-really badly.." He said, in a quiet voice, continuing to give them his information.
The paramedics arrived about ten minutes later, and they gave Gerard medicine as well as carried him out on a stretcher. Frank heard the ambulance from his house, waking up and going to look outside. He saw it was in front of Gerard's house, instantly remembering that his dad had beat him just yesterday morning.
Frank rushed to his mom, who was up and getting ready for work. "C-Can you drive me to the hospital with you?" He asked, his frantic worry apparent.
"Yeah, what's wrong Frankie?" She asked as she turned to him.
"I think.. I think Gerard is really hurt." He told her, and she looked at him sadly.

At the hospital, Frank ran to the desk.
"U-uh, is there a Gerard Way here?" he asked, and the receptionist looked through the computer, scanning the lists of names.
"No, I'm sorry." she said simply up at him.
"Wh-what..? Well did you get uh.. a t-teen about my age in, with black hair and brown eyes...? U-uh the wounds would be from like.. g-getting beat up, or something." He gasped out nervously.
"Hm.." the woman said, typing and then scrolling through a list. "It seems we do have a John Doe by that description. He's in room 302 but I don't think he's taking visitors."
Frank was already on his way before she finished her last sentence, knowing he had to get in no matter what. He took the elevator up to floor three before running down the hall to room 302.
"This is it. I can see him through the window." Frank thought, peering into the room and looking at the bandaged up Gerard, who was either unconscious or sleeping. He quickly reached for the door, but it was locked. He jiggled the handle, knocking on the door desperately.
After a moment, Mikey appeared at the window cautiously. He looked out, seeing Frank, before quickly opening up the door.
"Wh-who are you?" He asked to Frank quietly, before slowly letting him in.
"I'm Frank. Frank Iero, I live right behind Gerard. He spent the day at my house yesterday... What, uh, what happened?" he asked, walking up to Gerard and looking down at him sadly. Mikey drew the blinds and walked to a chair in the corner, sitting down in it and looking to Frank, studying him before answering.
"Our dad. He hates Gerard, and when he found out Gerard didn't go to school yesterday after the fight they had two nights ago, he was really upset. I didn't see any of it, but I woke up this morning to Gerard on our floor, and of course it had to be my dad. It's always him." Mikey told him with a sigh. "Oh, I'm Mikey, by the way. Gerard's brother, of course." He said, giving him a weak smile that Frank mirrored.
"I won't tell my dad where he is, please, take Gerard home with you. I'll drop off some of his stuff later. I just know this isn't the last time this will happen and I don't want him to have to go through worse."
Frank thought for a moment. His mom wouldn't care, and it was better than sending Gerard somewhere with all the other used and abused teens of New Jersey, but what if he was found out? Did he really want to keep Gerard so close by, and risk his father knocking down their door. Could he even trust Mikey?

After a long period of silence, he put his hand gently on Gerard's shoulder.
"...Ok." Frank whispered.
