Sir Edward's School For The Supernatural

Gimme Gimme some of that Lunch Money

All was black.

It was a suffocating black, clogging my senses and majorly hindering my ability to speak, to see, to hear. It felt like it was closing in on me, squeezing around my body.

Then, as I looked into the darkness, I saw something. A little flicker of light. My eyes protested a little at the sudden light, but I grew hopeful. Maybe it will pull me out of this place.

Then that something grew, blinding me with light.

I focused on it after a while to see the light had formed two glowing greeny-yellow eyes, darting everywhere. I heard deep, dark snarls seemingly coming from the darkness, and I backed up slightly. Fear was evident and growing in my body, filling my stomach to the brim with dread.

Suddenly, the eyes focused on me, and all went black again.

But only for a short while, because then, a figure appeared. It was a shadowy silhouette, standing on top of a hill, gray light pouring out from behind it. The growls grew louder once that appeared, and I looked at the silhouette even closer.

It had what looked like a long and serrated black knife in one hand. It was dripping, and between the low growls you could hear the pit pat of the liquid hitting the solid ground.

The greeny-yellow eyes appeared again, opening where the eyes on a normal person would be, and along with the screams. Screams of bloody murder, and the silhouette started to move. It slowly walked towards me, and I quickly stepped back, but it kept coming.

It picked up it’s pace, and soon it was running, and the point of view turned so I could see the side of the silhouette. Feet pounded against the ground as the screams grew louder. I heard the sounds of others running away from it, yelling and shrieking in fright.

Then, the silhouette slowed down, and I saw another person on the ground, shaking in pure terror. I heard it say, “No, please no,” as the silhouette approached the person and raise the knife. The person begged for mercy, shouting “NO!” several times. Then, the knife was brought down by the hand of the silhouette, sinking into the person’s chest with a sickening sound. Ear piercing screams rang in my ears as my vision was splattered with blood.

The silhouette kept stabbing him, over and over again, slashing the person as their greeny-yellow eyes blazed with what could be only described as insanity. And my world was shaking. Everything seemed so loud, and I heard calls of my name, but that only made it worse. And dark clouded at my vision, blocking up my breathing and my heart, and the suffocating black was swallowing me whole.

I screamed.

“Gerard!” I jerked out of the darkness and into the light of Mr. Krotki’s classroom, my breathing short and ragged. I lay on the ground, and Frank was over me, gripping both of my shoulders tightly.

“Calm down, it’s okay.” He said, and I tried to slow my breathing down, but I couldn’t. Everything from my prediction came rushing back to me, and I couldn’t get the image of the silhouette stabbing that person, making my vision red with the blood flying out of him.

That could actually happen! My mind shouted at me, and my eyes went wide as I started to hyperventilate.

I curled up into a ball as my breathing got really short and rough, and the suffocating black started to ring around my vision.

“Shh, it’s okay. Calm down. Everything’s fine.” Frank said, wrapping his arms around my panicking body in an effort to calm me down.

The screams echoed in my mind, blood curdling and awful, and I found my head burying itself in Frank’s neck and felt tears leaking from my eyes, dampening his shirt.

Some might call me a pussy for crying, but honestly, that shit was scary.

“Wow. That has never happened before.” I heard Mr. Krotki say.

“What do you mean?” I heard Dan say, and Mr. Krotki huffed in confusion.

“I mean, whenever someone gets their predictions, they just stand there weirdly and not make a noise. I know you did it, but I don’t think you know what you looked like when you did it. But, as you can see, Gerard here collapsed and started shaking violently, and while Frank was trying to wake him up he screamed the most horrific scream I’ve ever heard in all my years of being on this Earth.” Mr. Krotki said, and I tuned out of their conversation to concentrate on myself. My breathing had evened out, but tears still ran from my eyes. Frank was now rubbing my back soothingly, and my eyes were half-shut.

“You okay?” Frank asked, and I nodded slightly and sniffed.

We broke away the embrace, and I wiped my eyes.

“Sorry.” I said, and Frank shrugged.

“Nah, it’s fine. You looked like you were scared out of your mind. Would you mind telling me what happened?” Frank said, and I nodded slowly and told him the whole thing. From the green eyes to the silhouette to the brutal murder, I told him all of it in the best detail I could.

“And then it was like the black was suffocating me, constricting my body, and then I let out a scream as it swallowed me whole.” I finished, and by that point I was out of breath. I took a look at Frank to see that his eyes were wide.

“Damn. That’s some scary shit.” Frank said, and I nodded.

“It was terrifying.” I said as fear still held a grip on my stomach, but by now a pretty loose one.

“I wonder who that silhouette could be…” Frank said, scratching his chin.

“Yeah, me too. But as I said, it was a silhouette, so I didn’t see much.” I said, and I shivered at the thought of the terrifying being. Frank nodded.

“Gerard?” I spun around to see Mr. Krotki looking pretty concerned. “You may stay here for the rest of class, or go back to your dorm, but you’ll still have to go to your next class. You look pretty shaken up.” Mr. Krotki said, and I thought for a moment.

“I’ll go back to my dorm.” I said, and Mr. Krotki nodded curtly.

“Right. Frank, just in case, can you walk him to his dorm? Dan, you may go back to your class now.” Mr. Krotki said, and Dan said a quick little bye to me before running out the classroom. Frank nodded.

“Come on,” Frank said, standing up and holding out a hand. I quickly grabbed it and he hoisted me up and onto my feet with a grunt. I stumbled a little at first, but I stood up fine. Frank smiled and we walked out of the classroom, and I could feel everyone’s eyes boring into my back as I walked out.

“Hey Frank?” I said as we walked down the dorm hallway. Frank looked up at me.

“Yeah?” He asked, and I sighed before speaking.

“I’m sorry for this.” I said, and Frank shook his head.

“You shouldn’t be.” Frank said, and we went into silence once again, the only sounds made by us were the sounds of our feet hitting the carpeted floor.

We stayed like that for a couple more minutes, until I reached my dorm.

“Well, this is it. Do you want to come inside?” I asked, and Frank nodded, quickly stepping inside.

We spent the next hour just lying around, watching some TV and talking. It was actually a good time, and I enjoyed Frank’s company.

“The next class is in 10 minutes, so you should probably get ready.” Frank said, and I nodded and went into the bathroom to brush my hair. I grabbed the comb and brushed through a couple parts of my hair, wincing at the tugs on my scalp.

Once it was brushed through and fluffy, I walked out and into my room, grabbing a couple random pieces of paper that were lying around my room (don’t ask me why and how they were there. I could not for the life of me tell you) and quickly stuffing them into my bag.

I walked back out into the living room to see Frank splayed out on the couch, his wings flopped all over the place. He looked fast asleep, and I’m not going to lie, he looked pretty cute.

I quietly tiptoed over to him and started poking his cheek, which made him growl and swat my hand away.

“Hey, Frank.” I said, and Frank turned away from me. “It’s time to go silly.” I blushed slightly at what I just said.

“Noooooooooooooo….” Frank groaned, folding his wings over himself to form sort of a cocoon.

“We have 5 minutes till this period ends.” I said loudly, and suddenly Frank shot up and grabbed his bag.

“Well, we better get going then.” Frank said, all traces of the sleepiness he had before were completely wiped from his face. I smiled and we walked out the door just as the bells rung. “Good timing, eh?” Frank said, and I nodded. “Just follow me. I’m pretty sure we’re in the same Art class.”

I followed him closely as we walked through the now busy halls. The dragon from earlier accidentally bumped into me, and said a quick ‘sssssorry’ before flying off. I thought that was a moment to treasure because when I eventually get out of this place, when am I ever going to get to see a dragon?

I glanced over at the lake to see the same kid from before just gazing out onto the lake in sort of a sad trance, while people payed no attention to him whatsoever.

“Oh, yeah. That’s Patrick.” Frank appeared next to me and pointed out towards Patrick. “He’s almost always alone, but as I told you, he has one best friend that absolutely adores Patrick. They sit together at lunch and at break, but don’t even try to approach them during that time. Patrick so desperately needs the company of his friend, since he’s been through some tough shit. I know I’ve told you most of this yesterday, but I just wanted to give you a sort of refresher.” Frank said, and I nodded as we carried on.

Soon Frank stopped just outside a classroom and walked in, and I looked over the doorway to see ‘ART’ written in a fancy font. I shrugged and walked in, and I was astounded by the sheer amount of colour in this room.

It wasn’t the walls, nor the floor that had colour, it was the paintings that held a lot of it. One notable one that I took an immediate interest in was a painting of a bedroom with a starry sky on the walls, and a weird sheep thing facing towards the viewer. It was very strange, and I made a mental reminder to ask about it later.

Countless more paintings adorned the walls, and several posters were hung up behind the teacher’s desk. There were a few desks, but mostly there were easels standing in the room. Students were walking around the classroom, chatting with their friends and messing around with things. I saw an emo-looking kid messing around with an easel and almost broke it, and I laughed a little.

Suddenly, the bells started to toll, and all the students rushed to their desks. I saw Dan and Phil walk in together and sit down at a desk, and Mikey walked in right as the bells stopped tolling. I waved hello at him and he shyly waved back at me. I looked behind me to see Frank sat in a desk in the way back, and he waved hello to me before focusing back on the class.

I turned back around just in time to see a teacher walk into the classroom. She was shorter than Mr. Krotki, probably about Frank’s height actually. She beckoned me and Mikey down to the front of the classroom, and we obliged and walked down there.

“Hello!” She said, waving her arms a little. “And welcome to Art class. I am Ms. Sami.” She said, and I nodded slowly.

“We have two new students today!” Ms. Sami exclaimed excitedly, and some of the class waved hello to us. Ms. Sami pointed over at Mikey. “This is Mikey, and this-” She pointed at me. “Is Gerard. I hope you welcome them graciously into our small world of Art.” Ms. Sami said. “Now, you boys can go and sit in any empty spot and call it yours.” She said, waving us off to find spots.

I spotted one next to Frank and speed walked as fast as I could over there, feeling everyone’s eyes on my body. I threw my stuff down and sat quickly as I saw my brother sit next to the emo kid.

Once Ms. Sami wrote something down on what I was guessing was a seating chart, and she started the class.

“Right, we’ll start where we left off last time. I expect for you two,” The emo’s head shot up. “To explain everything to the newbies. Get to work people!” Ms Sami said, and the class got to work.

Then I felt a poke on my shoulder.

“Hey Gee?” Frank said, and I felt my cheeks redden a bit at the use of that nickname.

“Yeah?” I turned to Frank to see him with a couple of brushes in hand and a half finished canvas in front of him.

“Basically we’re doing a project in partners on what humans call mythical animals. Like dragons and stuff like that.” Frank explained, and I nodded. “You can do some parts while I do others, because this is also on different styles.”

“Ok, sure.” I said, and we started work on the project.

I did a couple things while Frank showed me what to do and where to do it. I had some fun drawing the parts of the dragon we were creating, and Frank said he picked it because there was a dragon in this school and she a pretty good model for the artwork. Just a little short thing.

Time passed for me fairly quickly while drawing, and it felt like it was only 10 minutes when in reality it was closer to an hour, and the bell was about to ring.

“Good work today!” Ms. Sami said, and I smiled. “The bell’s about to ring, so I suggest you pack up.”

I hoisted my tote up and onto the table, and stuffed my papers inside. It’s been so long since I last drew, I thought, and I threw a couple pencils into the mix.

“Hey, nice job. I really like your style.” I heard Frank say, and I fet my cheeks redden a bit at the compliment.

“Uh, thanks.” I said, not turning towards him incase he saw my red face. I finished packing up and I looked around the room. Mikey was fiddling around with something in his bag while the emo kid sat next to him sat there looking anxious and ready to sprint out the moment the bell rung. Dan and Phil were sat together, Phil gazing at Dan with an emotion I could not quite put a finger on and a soft smile on his face while Dan talked about something he was clearly passionate about. Several other students were in tight groups, looking at the others with looks of disapproval etched onto their faces.

I slung my tote around my shoulder, and at that moment the bells tolled, and I got up and stretched a little before changing into a wolf, but not before seeing a mop of black hair dart out the door.

Now let’s switch the point of view to the little emo running out the door, his only emotion was excitement as he ran through the halls towards the familiar lake, and towards his best friend.

POV CHANGE

I pumped my legs as fast as I could, running through the halls and dodging people as I headed towards my destination. Pretty soon, I saw the glittering of the lake and I knew I was near.

I saw the entrance to the place where the lake was and I quickly ran through it, and saw him in all his glory lying down on the grass, fast asleep. As I neared him, I slowed down to a walk, and eventually I reached him.

His glossy golden red hair was splayed out on the grass as he layed there, his chest moving up and down with his breathing. His fedora lay a couple inches away from his head, having obviously rolled off in his sleep.

I smiled softly as I sat next to him, waiting for him to wake from his slumber. But as soon as my butt hit the grass, I saw one of his eyes open to look directly at me. I froze as he smiled and sat up.

“Hello!” I said, and he waved ‘hello’ at me as he grabbed his fedora from where it was and set it carefully on his head. He fished a notebook and a pencil out of one of his many pockets and started writing in it.

Once the writing was done, he showed it to me.

‘How was your day?’ It read, and I thought carefully for a moment before answering.

“Eh, pretty good. There were two new students today, and they're both brothers and one of them is my roommate and the other one is in a dorm with that one fire guy- Dan? I think?- down the hall. It’s weird suddenly having a roommate, but Mikey - that’s my roommate - is pretty nice. Doesn’t talk much, but nice anyway.” I said, rambling a bit, but Patrick, used to my rambling, kept listening anyway.

He started writing in his notebook again and he showed it to me.

‘He’s not going to replace me, right?’ It said and Patrick had a slight frown and a look of worry on his face.

I laughed lightly and wrapped my arms around him in a hug, leaning my head on his shoulder.

“No way man. You are my ultimate best friend.” I said, and I could feel Patrick’s heartbeat speed up a little at those words. I broke off the hug to see Patrick’s cheeks tinted slightly red, and I smiled a little and poked his red cheek, which earned my hand a slap away from his face.

“How was your day?” I asked, and Patrick shrugged and pursed his lips and wrote something down in his notebook.

‘You know how everyday goes, and it’s always the same. Sleep, wait for you, talk, eat a little something, be alone for another hour, talk, and the cycle repeats for the rest of the day until school ends and I just sleep out here.’ Patrick wrote, and I sighed.

“I know. And I also know that sucks. Do you know why you don’t have a room here?” I asked, and Patrick started writing again.

‘No, Pete. I don’t.’ And even though it was simply words on a page, I could feel the sadness through them, and I gave another hug. Patrick melted into my arms, and stayed in that position for a while, looking out over the lake for a while.

“Do you ever wonder why we have a break at this time?” I said, and Patrick shrugged and started writing.

‘I heard it was because some people have extremely rigorous classes that drain them of everything so there is a break every 2 classes. It benefits everyone really.’ It read.

“Oh, well that makes sense.” I said, and we fell silent again.

Suddenly I heard the sound of footsteps and the crunching of the grass under it’s feet as someone came near. I shot up and looked around, only to see a guy probably a little taller than me, with flaming red hair.

Isn’t that the guy from Art class? I thought.

I quickly broke off the hug as Patrick looked at me in confusion, and then noticed… Gerard? I think it was? looking at us like he had just walked in on us. Which he kinda did, but it was a friendly hug and nothing more.

I glanced over at Patrick who was glaring at him, a frown evident on his face.

I looked back at Gerard, who had his eyebrow raised, and I decided to speak.

“Can I help you?” I said, and Gerard sighed.
“No, but my roommate Frank suggested to go and talk to you guys, since I’m new and don’t have many friends.” Gerard said, and I looked over at Patrick again who now had a sad look on his face.

“Hey, are you okay?” I asked Patrick, and he shrugged half-heartedly.

“Should I come back at another time?” Gerard asked, and I nodded, and Gerard walked away from us back into the school.

Now let’s move away from Pete comforting his best friend to the redhead walking back into the school, waiting for his next class to start.

Gerard’s POV

I felt slightly guilty for going over there in the first place. I mean, I kind of expected to get a dirty look from Patrick but I didn’t expect to make him sad.

I bit my lip and walked to my third class, which I’ve already figured out where from walking around this school a couple times. I walked in and sat at the table I was assigned (I walked in here before going to Pete and Patrick so I knew where everything was) and waited for the the break to be over and the class to start.

---

I tiredly dragged myself down the classroom aisle as the last class bell rung signalling the end of the school day.

Now I know why people were practically dragging themselves down the halls. I thought, and I yawned loudly and entered the dorm building.

Once I finally reached my dorm I threw my stuff on the couch and almost ran to my room and jumped onto my bed, where I almost instantly fell into a dreamless sleep.
