The Kids From Yesterday

Chapter Nine - Red Until It Fades To Black

I was dressed as usual today, but with subtle changes to how smart i was dressed. I wiped any dirt off of my Converse sneakers, and had to go for my haircut too, so i looked smarter. Instead of its usual greasy shoulder-length, it was short now, still black, but re-dyed, and spiked messily. I made sure to get home quick just in case Frank arrived two hours early, but i doubted that very much. I didn't have any peircings, as i was afraid of needles, but i wouldve really appreciated a lip ring right now. Like Frank's. Ugh, those lips...
I pushed the thought out of my mind. This is not a date. And even if it was, im not interested in guys.
Aren't you?
That sly voice that i hoped every one else had whispered mischeviously. I gritted my teeth. No. I fell onto the sofa, yawning. Man, i was up early. Why did i get so little sleep? I went to tuck my hair behind my ear, before stopping and laughing. Its gone now, i thought rolling my eyes. I wasn't sure i liked it. I mean, sure, it looked cool, but is it really me?
At that moment my phone started vibrating on the arm of the chair. I was quick to pick it up to see who it was, and to my delight, it was Frank. My heart skipped a beat at the small font spelling out his name.
I picked it up immediately.
"Hello?"
"Uh, hey Gerard its me." He didn't sound like his usual, confident self. In fact, he almost sounded uncertain.
"Hey Frank!" i said brightly. "What's up?"
"Um, so, I'm already ready to come over, and i know its like and hour and a half until twelve, but would it be okay if i came a little early?"
My whole body was filled with happiness. It shouldn't.
"Yeah, sure! I'm already ready too." i had a smile on my face now, and i hoped he couldn't hear it in my voice.
"Awesome!" all the awkwardness in his voice was gone, i noticed with joy. He was excited. "I'll be right over."
"Okay." we both hung up.

I was way too excited for this. I paced in front of the TV, hoping the creaking floorboards didn't wake Mikey (yes, they were that loud).
Then the doorbell rang. I practically ran to it, and as i was about to open the door, i frfroze. I realised that i was really nervous. I took a deep breath, and opened the door. Frank was there, smiling, gorgeous as ever.
Gorgeous? Did you really just think "HE looks gorgeous"?
He was wearing a plain black t-shirt today, and ripped yet oddly smart jeans of a dark blue. I noticed that his converse had been polished too. Heh heh.
His hair, as usual, was perfect. That thin section of fringe hanging down to his chin, his shorter hairs perfectly spiked. The purple and blonde in it was epic.
He gawped for a couple of seconds.
"What?" i asked, suddenly self-conscious.
"Your hair!" he squeaked. God, he's adorable
"What about it?" i said, feeling the blood rush to my cheeks.
"It looks... Amazing!"
I broke into a wide smile, blushing even further. "Thanks, i just got it done."
He grinned for a moment, and we just stood there smiling at each other, taking in every detail of each other's faces. Frank's perfectly sculpted eyebrows, his slightly rounded straight nose, his hazel-brown eyes, his perfect jawline ...
I cleared my throat. "So you wanna come in?" i asked.
"Nah." he smirked. I was confused for a second, until he said, "lets go somewhere."
I smiled shyly. "Where?"
"Anywhere. Im hungry, aren't you?" his perfect side smile lit up his features.
"Okay." i grinned. "Lemme just leave a note for Mikey."

I quickly scrawled a note onto a crumpled peice of paper i found in my pocket and stuck it to the door, then made sure i locked him in before walking into town. We walked really close together. More than a few times our hands brushed together. Each time my heart fluttered. One time i thought, "if we held hands would i have a heart attack?" and couldn't help but giggle to myself.
"What's so funny?"
"Oh nothing." i turned bright red. He eyed me, pretending to be suspicious. He laughed at my laugh.
Our first stop was the coffee stop outside the CD store, but this time we sat upstairs to eat. We were the only ones up here, and we got a nice secluded spot by the window. Two leather sofas with a normal-size table inbetween them. We sat across form each other, and for the first minute Frank just stared out then window peacefully. I watched him all the while. Until he looked over at me, and i quickly dropped my gaze, embarrassed. He smiled. I laughed nervously, twirling my napkim in my hands.
"Gerard?" Frank asked wearily.
"Yes?" i looked up, smiling. He blushed, which id never seen him do before.
"Do you think this is a ... Date?" he looked embarrassed, and avoided my eye. I felt touched. he really was as nervous as i was.
"Do you want it to be?" i asked quietly. He opened his mouth to answer, but stopped when the waitress placed our fries in front of us. When shed gone, he gulped before saying,
"Well, to be honest ... I'm not sure." at this moment, i had more than butterflies. I had bats. I breathed deeply. Should i just come out and say what i feel? Would that make me gay? I decided to just say it.
"Well, Frank ... I think i do." i stared at the table, my face burning. Then i heard him laugh. Why? Was this some kind of prank?
"So do i."
