Lover Boy

Chapter 2

The day seemed to drag on slower than normal, quite possibly because Frank was only in a few of my classes. Funny enough, we were in the same major; both of us chose English as our subject but that was one of the only things we truly have in common. I was a poet, a writer or short stories and a lover of classic novels while he was a song writer and a good one at that. He was in a band, a small local one that only toured around the clubs and bars in this part of New Jersey. He never played for the school, seemingly because he liked keeping his passion private from the rest of us, but I knew all about his undying love for the guitar and singing.

Writing Shop was the next class I would need to go to, and one of the only other classes I had with Frank. This was by far my favorite class, just above anatomy; not only because I would get to see him, but because this one class had to do with my major. Anatomy was a class that was required, but here in Writing Shop I could see Frank in his natural habitat. Walking into the room about ten minutes early, I was not surprised to see him sitting all the way in the back. Like I said, he liked his privacy and I didn't expect much else. In fact, I didn't expect him to treat me any differently just because what happened in anatomy was unnatural especially for him, so of course you can imagine what a shock it came to be when he rose from his seat and slowly walked towards me.

"Hey man," he said with a small smile and I could immediately feel my face heat up with a rush of blood. No doubt that he noticed it as well because his smile grew instantly.

"Y-yeah, what's u-up?" I stutter as a nervous habit, probably making myself look like a complete fool.

"You look like the kind of guy that listens to good music, am I right?" he asks innocently, and I begin to panic. What if my ideal for music was completely off of his?

"I guess," I reply, trying to sound cool and confident which inside I was desperately lacking in both departments.

"Well listen, my bands having a first major gig, like major," he continues and I nod trying not to show how interested I was in everything he had to say, "Well, it would be cool if you could come to support us. We think we might be able to snatch a record deal if we can get a big enough crowd and cause some hype."

I feel my shoulders sag a little bit, he was only using me to gain attention from others. I'm not really sure what I expected; maybe a private concert just for me? The thought causes me to blush harder than I already am and I clear my throat before speaking.

"I might be busy tonight, I have an essay due for English Literature tomorrow and I've barely started it," I answer and his smile falters a little bit, or at least I imagine it did.

"Even for an hour?" he asks, looking up at me innocently through his eyelashes as though he knew his cuteness could win me over. If only he really knew what it did to me.

"Er, um, maybe I could if I finish the essay early," I stammer and feel my hands start sweating. I nervously wipe them on my jeans and Frank notices causing me to feel embarrassed. He doesn't miss a beat though, and instead shoots me a sly smile.

"It would be a shame if you couldn't make it, I was really hoping that I could see you tonight, maybe even show you some of the new stuff that I've been working on before the show?" he offers his best bet and I feel my heart skip a beat at his words. He wants me there, personally, not just for his selfish gain.

"I'll try to make it, just, um, email me the details," I give him a small smile and he laughs.

"Email? No one emails anymore, give me your number instead," he replies and I freeze up.

"My number?"

"Yeah, so I can text you the details. Is that cool?" he furrows his brows and I let out a loud exhale causing me to blush again.

"Sure, thats f-fine," I answer and with shakey hands I take his phone from his hands and enter my number.

"Sweet, I'll text you later then, yeah?" he smiles one more time, causing my heart to stop in my throat, and then he walks back to his spot in the class room.

This was not what I was expecting, it's almost like we are old friends, the way he was so confident when he spoke to me. He's an English major after all, maybe that's what made him so smooth. Maybe I'm the one who needs to sign up for a public speaking class. Either way, this day was seeming to be more and more surreal and I had no reason to complain.
