He's Not Dead, He Only Looks that Way.

“Take it to go.”

It’s been a couple days since Gerard has been human. He noticed huge differences now that he was, and he didn’t like it at all. He can’t go out and eat with Lindsey, Davy, and Frey anymore-he’s tried the taste of raw human skin and it made him puke. It wasn’t the same taste as he remembered when he was a demon. So, he had to go out to eat burgers or hot dogs with Patrick.

Late one night, Gerard sat on the opposite end of the booth in front of Patrick who couldn’t stop fidgeting in his seat. Gerard would slouch in the seat and rest his chin on his his hand, staring at Patrick’s frenzy lust for food.

Gerard mumbled, “This is stupid. I can’t believe I got the sudden urge to eat late at night.” He looked at Patrick, “Sorry for dragging you down into this dump with me, Patrick.”

Patrick scoffed, “It’s no big deal. I’m always in the mood to eat-and Momma’s Burgers isn’t a dump. This place is great.” He smiled widely as he tapped his foot underneath the table.

Gerard smiled a bit before staring out the window. He witnessed people passing by, some even holding hands with their partner. His eyes followed one lesbian couple who kissed underneath the street light, staring into each other’s eyes and embracing each other’s touch. Gerard felt his heart kick when one of them grabbed the other girl’s hand. Gerard could easily imagine Frank and him walking past the couple, locking their hands together, and he could even hear Frank’s laughter echo in his head.

Oh boy! Food!” Patrick cheered as Gerard bit his lower lip, still staring at the couple outside.

The waiter set the food down in front of Patrick, “Here’s your cheese burger and fries,” He set the other plate down in front of Gerard who gave him no attention, “And your chicken wrap.”

Patrick stared at Gerard but then smiled at the waiter, “Thank you.” The waiter nodded before walking away. Patrick felt sorry for Gerard. He looked down to his meal and frowned. His appetite had completely disappeared. Patrick asked softly, “How bad do you miss him?”

Gerard kept his eyes out on the couple outside. He teared up seeing their smiles, “Something about him .. it’s just .. I need him back, you know?” When Gerard faced Patrick, Patrick felt his heart jolt when he saw the tears streaming down Gerard’s face. He’s never seen Gerard cry.

Gerard wiped his tears, “Look at them,” He looked back at the couple.

Patrick looked too and saw what Gerard did. He saw two happy people clinging into each other’s arms. He saw sweet smiles of happiness and enjoyment. The touch of one another made their own hearts vibrate with passion. He saw a deep, unbreakable bond between two people. Patrick saw love.

Gerard watched as the couple gave each other one last kiss before walking together, back to wherever they first came from. Gerard faced Patrick, “When I was a demon, it was hard for me to understand my feelings for Frank. I was so angry with him but now that I’m .. human .. I know what I want. I don’t want to be a demon anymore and I want Frank by my side.”

Patrick froze, “You .. you don’t want to be a demon anymore?”

Gerard brushed his hands through his jet black hair, “After having some time to myself and watching others, I realized no. I don’t. Being a demon made me .. bitter. Confused. But now that I’m human .. everything is so much easier and clearer to make my decisions.” Gerard sighed, “I’m going to summon Brendon. And I’m going to do whatever I can to make things right.”

Patrick leaned in, “Summon Brendon? You mean the devil? How do you plan on doing that?”

Gerard smirked, “I use to be a demon. I think I know how to summon a dark creature from hell.”

“Okay .. so .. tomorrow or .. ?”

“No. Now.”

“You mean after we eat, right?” Patrick smiled awkwardly.

Gerard raised a brow and couldn’t help but to simper, “Take it to go.”

It was around 11 at night when Gerard and Patrick parked the car on an empty field. Gerard slammed the car door shut and Patrick reflected his movements. Patrick felt a chill go down his spine, “Shouldn’t we let the others know where we are?”

“What? No.” Gerard muttered as he gathered his luggage filled with items, “I don’t need them, remember? They shouldn't get involved.”

Patrick looked around the area. The moon lit the empty field which had dead grass and tall naked trees behind them where the car was parked. He was scared and worried about what might pop out-Patrick is a bit paranoid ever since he figured out demons existed. Like, what else might be real?

Gerard set his luggage down and pulled out a red spray paint can, two candles, and a lighter, “Hey, Patrick, I’m going to need your help.”

Patrick felt ill, “Uh, sure,” He walked over to Gerard, “What did you need-”

Gerard pressed the tip of a blade he pulled out from his luggage into Patrick’s palm, deep enough to make him bleed. Patrick cried out in pain but before he could pull away, Gerard grabbed his palm and squeezed his blood into a small cup. Patrick reeled his hand away, “What the f-lipper!” Patrick groaned in pain.

Gerard threw a piece of clothing at Patrick, “You won’t die, don’t worry. Just wrap that around your palm-you’ll be fine.” Gerard placed the cup of Patrick’s blood beside him. He snatched the red paint and shook the can before finding a good place to draw a huge pentagram.

Patrick asked, “Why’d you do that for?”

“I needed blood,” Gerard called from a distance.

Patrick's voice turned salty, “Why didn’t you use yours?”

Gerard paused and chuckled, “Oh yeah, huh,” He then continued to spray onto the dead grass.

Patrick snarled quietly to himself, “Flipping Gerard.”

When Gerard was finished with the perfect drawing of the pentagram, he lit the two candles before placing them randomly on the circle of the red mark. He backed away outside of the circle before tossing Patrick’s small amount of blood inside the star.

Patrick said, “This is a fire hazard.”

“Shut up.” Gerard replied.

The two stood in silence as the fire from the candles lit under the moonlight.

Patrick asked Gerard, “Isn't something supposed to be happening?”

Gerard hushed him before there was silence yet again. Gerard took a step close to the mark and paused. There was a sudden brush of cold air that latched around the pentagram. The two couldn’t see it, but felt it. Gerard said a loud, “Brendon-”

“Brendon?” An unfamiliar man appeared in the circle and frowned upon Gerard, “I’m not Brendon.”

“But .. but I summoned the devil.”

“Yes, you did. Did you not know there was more than one?” The man questioned.

Gerard paused, “More than one?” He quickly inspected this entity who claimed to be Lucifer. This man had a lot of tats and even if the hair on his head was a dark color, his beard was a shade of orange/red. Gerard asked, “Do you know Brendon?”

“Of course I know that buffoon. He’s my youngest brother. But the real question is, why do you need him?”

Gerard glanced at Patrick who only glanced back. Gerard said, “He took someone from me.”

The man took a step forward, “Did he now? Tell me more.”

“First you tell me who you are,” Gerard said.

The man glared at Gerard, “I’m a devil. The man you speak of is my youngest brother who took over a man named Brendon. I, took over a young tattoo artist named Andy. Now, before you ask any more questions, I want you to know your time is very limited-so tell me what you know about the actions my brother has committed.”

Gerard hesitated but replied, “Your brother saved me from going to my hell-he changed me into a demon,” Andy’s eyes widen as Gerard continued, “In return, he gave me my own slave but took him away from me and changed me into a human .. I just want what he took away from me and nothing else.”

Andy’s eyes lowered to the grass, “I .. I must go.”

“What? But I-” Gerard’s words were cut off by the fire from the candles being blown away by the wind, and Andy disappearing from inside the circle.

Gerard took a moment to process what just happened before angrily kicking his shoes against the dirt and screaming out. Patrick slowly backed away, making his way back to the car. He decided to give Gerard some space.

Gerard fell to his knees and cursed under his breath. He took in deep inhales and exhales before softly saying, “Hang in there, Frank .. you won’t be down there for long.”
