Can't You See Me?

"How are the assignments going, girls?" I asked as I sat across from them at Frank's table. They both looked up and gave me forced smiles. I tilted my head a little. "Are you both... upset with me?" I asked, my heart clenching a little bit. They didn't answer and went back to work. I stared down at my hands, feeling a little insecure about where I stood with them.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned to look up at Frank, who was giving me an apologetic smile. his gaze went to his girls and turned stern. "Girls," he started, "remember what I told you both was going to happen when Mr. Way got here?" he asked them. Their pencils stopped moving and they looked up at me. "You're to apologize,"

I shook my head at them. "No, that's quite all right. If they are upset, let them be. Let them get it out of their system. When you both turn in that report, it's going as extra credit, so just keep that in mind," I said, giving them a small smile before standing up. "I'd like to use your kitchen?" I asked Frank. He seemed to snap out of some daze before nodding his head.

"Sure! Um, what are you going to make?" He asked.

"Well, if you're still the same, it's going to be something healthy and gluten free," I answered, looking in the different cabinets so I could get a feel for the kitchen. I went over the bag I'd brought with me and got out the different things I would be needing.

"Aww, you're so sweet," Frank cooed. I turned my back to him as I felt my face get a little hot. I cleared my throat.

"Are the girls allergic to anything?"

Frank nodded. "Cherry is allergic to peanuts, and Lily is allergic to coconut," I nodded and threw back the recipe for coconut shrimp and a few more containing peanut butter and came to the conclusion that this family is going to be a little hard to cook for. But I was somehow okay with the want to cook for them for a very long time. My heart began to feel very warm.

Wow, it's been a year since I updated this? I'm so sorry! But I've been very busy lately. I got married July 14th, seven days after my 20th birthday! I've submitted a story of mine to a few magazines too and even decided to leave my job and focus on seeing doctors to get better before moving to Guam with my husband (where he's currently stationed).

I would really love to hear some feedback on this!
