Can't You See Me?

Frank's POV/

"So how was school?" I asked the girls as they climbed into the car. They huffed, crossing their arms after buckling themselves in.

"Mr. Way is a jerk!" Lily cried. I frowned.

"What did he do?" I asked.

"He gave us an extra report for saying that he looked in love and that he couldn't wait to see you for dinner," she explained. I shook my head slightly, smiling at Mikey's actions.

"Did you do it in front of the class?" I asked as I drove towards home.

"Well, yeah, but still! An entire extra report! That's not fair, daddy. Make him take it back," Cherry pouted. I sighed softly.

"You guys, he's your teacher, so you have to do what he says. I have no control over his teaching, you know that," I explained. "Besides, you both teased your teacher in front of your class, so he's bound to give you guys some type of punishment.” They stayed silent, keeping their arms crossed over their chests the entire way home. I rolled my eyes, a small smile playing on my lips. As soon as we got home, they made way their way towards the TV, but I stopped them.

“Girls, what was the new rule of the house starting from this school year?” I asked, putting my hands on my hips. Cherry sighed as they pulled out their homework, both saying nothing.

“I asked you both a question.”

“To finish all of our homework before we’re allowed to watch TV or go play outside,” they mumbled in unison. I sighed softly.

“I know you’re both upset at Mr. Way for the extra report, but he’s your teacher. You can’t just make fun of him about me in front of your entire class, okay? It’s something private,” I explained to them. Lily kept her head down, eyes glued to the floor, as Cherry looked everywhere but me. “I’m not mad, but you’re both going to apologize to Mr. Way when he comes for dinner. He’s picking us up at eight, so finish your homework by then.” They nodded, sitting down and getting started on what looked like their math when I was walking by.

I opened the fridge and poured them both a cup of apple juice.

“Here you go, my babies. Remember, if you need help, ask anyone else, because daddy didn’t pay too much attention in school,” I chuckled. They smiled up at me, my heart unclenching, because I now knew that they weren’t upset anymore. I left them to their homework, but sat at the table with them, trying to write more lyrics out, but I’ve had a block for months and I don’t feel it clearing any time soon. Just as I was about to break my pencil in half out of frustration, my phone started ringing, catching me and the girls’ attention. I answered after seeing it was Mikey.

“Hey, Mikey,” I greet.

Hey. I was wondering if it was okay to come over earlier? I wanted to cook for everyone instead of going out,” he asked. I felt myself smiling at how much he hadn’t changed, at how much kinder he was to me, but I knew he hadn’t forgiven me yet. Mikey could hold a grudge for years, but within time, I knew he could forgive me.

“Sure that sounds good. The girls are just finishing their homework.” At this, both Cherry and Lily look up at me and scowl. I shoot them a warning look, and they return to their assignments.

They looked very upset leaving my classroom this evening. Is it the extra report I gave them?” He asked, voice filled with amusement.

“Yeah, they’re a little sour. What’s the report about anyways?” I asked.

Well, Lily’s report is to write a three-page essay on the rise and fall of the Rome and Cherry’s is also a three-page, but she’s to write a story about living in Pompeii,” he explained.

“What are you, their history teacher? What does that have to do with English?” I asked, raising a brow.

Well, it’s a report and a story, meaning there will have to be proper grammar and punctuation. That, in itself, is how it’s English. Don’t worry, I’m using it as their extra credit. They’ll be further ahead in the class by the time the first report card comes in. I start my assignments on the first day, so yeah.” I laugh to myself before shaking my head.

“Yeah, just come on over. I miss you,” I admit lowly, hoping the girls wouldn’t hear me but their giggling says otherwise.

“I’ll be over in twelve minutes.” We say bye and hang up. I don’t notice that I’m staring dreamily at my phone until one of the girls clears their throat. I look up to both of them giving me smirks. I purse my lips together.

“Oh, just finish your damn homework,” I huff, standing up. They giggle and I squint my eyes at them. “And don’t forget to finish your reports by tonight,” I snicker. I walk out of the room, satisfied by the groans I hear coming from them, and walking up to my room to freshen up before Mikey gets here.

Notes

Whew, sorry this took so long! I apparently had writer's block with my writer's block story. Let's see, I'm working on a bunch of updates and a couple of my own one-shots that might be up later this week. We all know one shots aren't my strong suit cx

Anyways, leave me some feedback, yeah? I'd appreciate it lots!

Much love,
