So far we've just played video games, eaten food, skated, and watched movies, when do I ask him about Gerard. I've been thinking about it for a while, I mean what could have happened? Could it be that they were friends, or a...couple? No, gross, no. Gerard would never date Bob, and I'm 90% sure Bob is straight.
“So Bob, you gonna answer what happened between you and Gerard.” he let out a long sigh.
“Fine...so basically I've known Gerard since...the 3rd grade.”
“The 3rd grade?” I repeated in disbelief.
“Yeah, so anyways, when I was in 5th grade my dad left my mom and I. That hurt both of us, especially since my mom still loved him. At the time Gerard and I were just acquaintances, but his dad had died a year ago and he still felt that pain. I didn't pay too much attention to him during his sad times but when it came to me, he wasted no time in trying to ease my pain.” I've gone completely silent, curious about his story. I mean I knew his dad left them, but I'd never heard this much about it. “After that, we became good friends. We were the kind of friends that told each other everything, you know?”
“Yeah” I replied without thinking.
“Then the summer going into 7th grade he told me he was gay, I was the first person he told. And I told him, 'That's gross, you're gross how can you like guys?' I know, that was terrible of me. We didn't talk for a few months after that, but then on my birthday” Bob chuckled “He walked 1 mile in the snow to give me my present, then I apologized to him for, well you know.”
“Right.” I replied
“So after we 'made up'” he held up his hands to make parenthesis “he told me about how his mom been dating this guy. He always talked about him like he was his favorite uncle, then on the last day of school, he t,old me the guy was planning to propose to his mom. Then I realized I never asked this guy's name, it was-”
“Jerry...” everyone knows this, so what's the bid de- oh crap I know what the big deal is “Oh Bob, man that's...”
“It was awkward, you know, he was my best friend. We talked all the time, I mean I got made fun of because of his sexuality, but I also protected him when things got too rough. Then I found his mom's soon-to-be fiance was my own dad. I had no idea how to cope with that, but I also didn't want to end the friendship because of that. So I decided not to say anything, but at the end of summer vacation, he told me he was moving away and would change schools. He also said he'd see me in high school.” he paused, “Anyways his last day in his old house was when he biked to my house, he gave me a hug and told he was sorry that his new dad was my actually my dad.
“Wow, lot of history there.”
“Yeah...so what about you and Mikey? What happened there?”
“Nothing really he was just talkin' nonsense...did you ever talk to Mikey”
“No but he'd always try to tag along with us, he was...clingy.” he chuckled
“Well now he hates Gerard.”
“Seriously” I nodded my head, “No way.”
“Yeah he said so himself, during lunch”
“Is that why you were mad? Because he insulted your 'crush'” he began to laugh.
“Fuck you, why can't you ever be serious?”
“I don't know, I guess you just bring out the worst in me.” we laughed but it drifted into silence.
“Are you still mad at your dad?”
“Yeah” he replied simply
“What about Gerard?”
“I don't know, I guess there's just this...tenseness.” he said sounding almost confused.
“Right...”
“You still hate Gerard?”
“I don't know.” I replied honestly
