Frank Stop Staring

Chapter Four: The beautiful creature is not okay

Gerard sang along to this favorite Smashing Pumpkins song whilst driving to the grocery store. He was on his way to get Frank’s ice cream.

Last night, Gerard sat on the edge of his bed wondering about what he wanted to sing. Then he remembered Frank telling him a story."Well if you wanted honesty, that’s all you had to say.“
Gerard thought and thought…he actually believed it could be the beginning of a song.
But He didn’t know how to continue it…
What did he mean by the line? Why did that line stand out to him?
He couldn’t get himself to disappoint Frank tomorrow. He had to finish the song or he wasn’t going to teach.
"That’s it!” Gerard got up from his seat, darting down the stairs. Once he latched the notepad, he wrote down the phrases.
Well if you wanted honesty, that’s all you had to say.
I never want to let you down or have you go, it’s better off this way.

That was exactly perfect and Gerard knew. From then on he continued to remember conversations Frank and him had.
For all the dirty looks, the photographs your boyfriend took,
Remember when you broke your foot from jumping out the second floor?
To be a joke and look, another line without a hook
I held you close as we both shook for the last time take a good hard look!
But you really need to listen to me
Because I’m telling you the truth
I mean this, I’m okay!
You wear me out
You said you read me like a book
What will it take to show you that it’s not the life it seems?
but the pages all are torn and frayed
I’ve told you time and time again you sing the words but don’t know what it means
I don’t wanna make it, I just wanna…

He stopped, nothing went together. They were all just bundled up phrases, but Gerard had the whole day tomorrow to fix them.

"Today, I just want you guys to work on the project. Remember, it’s due by the end of next week.“ Gerard spoke to his first class.
He had to work on the song.
After three hours of non-stop frustration, lunch had arrived and Frank was on his way.
"Hey, Gerard.” Frank chirped.
"I’m not done.“ Gerard mumbled, too busy to look up.
"Not done on what?” He walked closer to Gerard’s desk.
"The song.“
"You’re writing a song?” Frank said, confused.
Frank wasn’t expecting much from him, let alone a fully written song.
"Yes.“
"Did you need help?” Frank asked, wondering why he was so focused.
"No- yes.“ Gerard confessed.
"Well I can’t help if you don’t sing it.” Frank smiled.
"Do I have to-o-o?“ Gerard whined, embarrassed.
"If you don’t sing, then it’s not a song." Frank replied.
"Okay,” He cleared his throat, “Well if you wanted honesty, that’s all you had to say. I never want to let you down or have you go, it’s better off this way. For all the dirty looks, the photographs your boyfriend took, remember when you broke your foot from jumping out the second floor?” He stopped.
Frank bursted out with excitement, “You seriously wanted to use that story? Why do you have to torture me? I jumped out a window one time and suddenly that’s what I’m known for. No, but seriously it’s really good.”
"Thanks, I just...I have lines, but I don't know where to put them and I'm not sure if I should keep them or find better lyrics." Gerard admitted.
"Well, we'll try everything, then we'll start adding in if we need to." Frank added.
Gerard was glad that Frank was good at dealing with people's problems, cause he sure as hell didn't know how to.
Once lunch ended, Frank had to go; but soon after the last bell rang and Frank knew exactly how to help him.
"Hey, Frank." Gerard said, not looking up.
"Hi." Frank snorted, waiting for Gerard to see.
"Huh," he looked up, eyes wide, "What the fuck? Where did you get a guitar?"
Frank laughed, "I used to be in a band, but they all graduated last year so it's just been hanging out in my car."
"Do you play it?" Gerard asked.
"Hell yeah I do." Frank said before Gerard realized how stupid of a question that was.
"I've been thinking about this," Frank plays the guitar part, "At the beginning...here sing when I'm finished with that part."
"Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say-y-y. I never want to let you down or have you go, it's better off this way." Gerard gleams with happiness.
"There we go, all we need is to fit the lyrics with it and its done." Frank said, excited.
"I'm so happy I could kiss you." Gerard piped, clapping his hands.
"Cool it, Gerard, cool it. I'm not in detention forever."
"I know, I know, but sometimes you're just the best." Gerard admits, writing the lyrics down in order.
Frank smiles, looking down at his guitar from embarrassment, "Thanks, Gee."
