Chapter 6 - Finally

Support Group.
It was Wednesday, the second day since Gina got out of the hospital and immediately her foster parents dragged her to Support Group. And I, being the best friend that I am, went with her. I thought it was going to be another boring session like it was always, listening to that self-proclaimed group leader, named Gabriel, talk about how he was lucky to have survived cancer and how much he wished for the rest of them to live in the same bliss as him, with the Lord Almighty and Jesus Christ, our brother.
Bla bla bla and more bla. I honestly didn’t listen to most of what he was saying, I just went there to support Gina with my presents.
But this session I wasn’t the only cancer free person present there.
Gina and I were already sat down in the ‘circle of trust’, as Gabriel called it, but it was simply a circle of chairs around a hand made rug, that had Jesus depicted on it, when Mikey entered the room and right behind him... Gerard.
I watched wide eyed, as he took his seat next to Mikey, who was sitting next to Gina. Why, after all this time had he come to Support Group? I was going with Gina for the past 2 years to this thing, and not once since Mikey started going, had Gerard every turned up. Why now?
He ran his hand through his bright red hair, then his look landed on me. Only half of his mouth curved in to a smile and it was so sexy, I could barely contain myself. Thankfully Gabriel started talking.
“Welcome everyone, to a place of understanding and support” started Gabriel, giving us all a warm smile. He proceeded to tell the same story as he did every time; the story of how he beat his testicular cancer, and how one day, everyone might be as lucky as him. I didn’t really listen to him, because all I could think about was Gerard, whom I saw with the corner of my eye, well mostly what I saw was his red hair and how he occasionally ran his fingers through it or swiped it away from his eyes.
“Okay, now you’ve all heard my story. It’s time we all hear yours” said Gabriel when he finished. This was regular to. We went around the circle and everyone shared their name, age, diagnosis, how you were doing today and if you wanted to share even more information about yourself and your cancer.
The circle of trust began on the right side from Gabriel, so they got to me pretty quickly.
“Hi, I’m Frank, seventeen and I am here only to support my friend today” I said, like every time.
“And how are you feeling today, Frank?” Gabriel asked nevertheless.
“I’m great” I smiled. Gabriel nodded in approval, continuing to Gina.
“Hey, everyone I’m Gina, I’m seventeen. I was originally diagnosed on my thyroid, but now I have an impressive colony in my lungs. And today I’m fine, I guess” she said, glancing over at Mikey, who was looking at her like she was the most precious thing in the world.
“Thank you Gina” smiled Gabriel.
Then it was Mikey’s turn.
“Hi, I’m Mikey, I’m twenty-three and I am diagnosed with retinoblastoma and by the end of the month, I’ll be completely losing my eye sight, so beside that I’m okay” said Mikey, leaning his hand against Gina’s.
“How does losing your eye sight make you feel Mikey?” continued to nose Gabriel.
“I’m not thrilled about it, but you know, I have my brother her to support me through it, and friends like Gina and Frank” he smiled to all three of us. Gabriel excepted that as an okay answered, moving on to Gerard.
“Hi, I’m Gerard, and as Mikey said, I’m his brother and like Frank I’m only here to support my brother” he said with a small smile. Gabriel nodded yet again and the circle continued. Then came the talking and sharing of problems. It lasted about a half an hour more, then Support Group was officially over, but people still stuck around for Gabriel’s homemade cookie (his mom makes them) and lemonade. Gina, Gerard, Mikey and myself left immediately, because we had decided to go out for ice cream. We sat in front of the ice cream shop, talking, but mostly dreading about Gabriel... and it mostly just Gina and Mikey talking. Gerard and I spent the entire time secretly glancing at each other. But one time when I looked at him, he was already looking back at me with a soft smile. I shyly smiled to him, as he extended his smile, reviling his small with teeth.
“I see you don’t have any new bruises” he said quietly, taking another spoon of ice cream in to his mouth.
“Yeah, cause my dad finally got a job and he has to work most nights, so he’s not there when I get home” I explained.
“Well, I’m glad to hear it” he smiled even wider, his hand reached out for mine. His fingers gently pressed against the tips of mine, sending a shock of warmth through my body. I carefully stared at both of our hands, feeling like electricity was travelling between our touches.
“Hey, guys, do you wanna go play video games?” Mikey interrupted. I looked at him then back at Gerard, who raised his eyebrow at me.
“Amm.. sure” I then agreed to the idea. Both Mikey and Gina smiled widely and we were off, I assumed, to the Way household.
We all paled in Gerard’s car, which also smelled like him, Gerard and Mikey in the front and Gina and I in the back. We drove in silence, listening to one of Gerard’s CD’s, surprisingly – The Misfits.
Soon after, we arrived at a reasonably size house, with a nicely groomed front lawn and a small stony path leading to the front door. Gerard led us to the house, Mikey caring Gina oxygen tank and me closely behind them. We entered in to a comfortably decorated home, that smelled even more of Gerard with the adding of the smell of coffee. Gerard threw the car key on the table and Mikey led me and Gina upstairs. There were only three rooms there; Mikey’s room, where we were headed, the bathroom and Gerard’s room.
I found it quite nice that the two brother lived together, but since Mikey will soon lose his eye sight it was logical that they would.
Mikey’s room was simple. Bed, two closets, a TV and a nightstand with two posters hanging from the wall.
“Make yourselves at home” said Mikey, while attending to the PSP 4 he had in his room. Both Gina and I sat down on his bed, watching as Mikey connected the console to the TV, then plugged in the controllers. Gerard joined us with four cups of coffee in his hands. Mikey turned on the game and the title read: Medal Of Honor: Frontline.
“I love this game” Gina giggled, sitting on the floor next to Mikey, who handed her one of the controllers. They immediately started playing, forgetting about me and Gerard, who had joined me on the bed, lying so close to me, I was tempted to just scoot over an inch and I would be pressed against him.
I was kind of weird though, lying in bed with my art teacher, at his house, drinking his coffee.
“This is some good coffee” I smiled to Gerard, when I took a sip of the steaming, brown liquid.
“Thanks” he smiled back, placing his cup on Mikey’s nightstand. The first hour was spent with complete concentration on the game, with me and Gerard yelling at the two players what they should do, even though they didn’t really listen to us, so we yelled even louder. By the time it was mine and Gerard’s turn to play it was already eight in the evening. Gina and Mikey took our sport on the bed, as we took the controllers in our hands, to start the mission they failed for 6 times in a row.
“Just so you know, I’m really good at this” smirked Gerard, pressing the start button. I smirked back at him, but said nothing, just concentrated on the game and all the enemies we had to take down.
We played so good together! We were unstoppable! And to be all honest we didn’t want to stop playing, but at one point Gina and Mikey became silent and as both Gerard and I slightly turned our heads to see what was going on back there, we saw them clinging on to each other, their lips pressed together.
“What do you say we give them some space?” Gerard whispered in to my ear, sending a tingly feeling through my body. I nodded, taking one last look at Gina, know how happy she’ll be tomorrow, then followed Gerard in to the room next to Mikey’s; his room.
Holy, fuck! I’m actually in his room, where he sleeps every night, where he wakes up every morning to start his day! Inside I was freaking out like a 12 year old fan girl over bands, but on the outside I tried to maintain a cool appearance.
Gerard’s room was a lot more interesting than Mikey’s. It’s true they had the same furnishings, but his room was filled with drawings and sketches and paintings and I think I even saw a note sheet or two in between all those papers.
“Sorry for the mess” he said, trying to clean up a bit, by putting the papers in one nit little pile.
“Not, it’s fine. These are amazing” I said, taking one of the drawings he had on his, not so tidy, bed. And I just could believe my eyes. It was me...
It was me, behind my desk in Gerard’s classroom, staring out the window, listening to music on my phone. Every line was so precise, yet naturally drawn.
“Eh, yeah” was all I heard Gerard say before he took the drawing from my hands and shoved it inside one of the drawers.
“When did you do that?” I asked, weakly smiling. He actually drew me? Me! The short, weird kid, that only had one friend, who was good at only playing the guitar and nothing else?
“A while ago” he mumbled, crashing down in his desk chair.
“I’m sorry about that” he said, nodding his head towards the drawer.
“No, it’s actually really good. I like it” I smiled, sitting down on his soft, king sized bed.
“You do?” he frowned, leaning back in his chair and entwining his fingers. I nodded, extending my smile. He examined me for a brief moment, then with one swift move, he jumped from his bed and slit on to the bed next to me. Our legs were pressed together, his hand over mine. I held my breath at the sudden touch. His face was so close to mine, even closer then it was that day during lunch, so close that all I had to do was lean in and our lips would meet.
“Do you remember when I talked about the second reason?” he breathed out, his look travelling from my lips to my eyes.
“I haven’t stopped thinking about it” I said truthfully. He moved even closer, biting his lower lip.
“I think it’s time we hear it, don’t you?” he whispered, his lips gently brushing against mine. I hastily nodded, feeling his hand sliding up my thigh.
“Do you really want to know?” he asked, his breath slipping over my lips like a thick fog.
“Yes” I breathed, as Gerard’s hands stopped at my waist.
“I like you Frank, way too much then I should” he whispered, his other hand reaching up to my cheek.
“Then we’re on the same page”
Our lips collided. Finally.
It was all that I dreamed it would be and more. His lips were soft, gentle, yet passionate.
He pulled me even closer to him, my hands wrapping around his waist, bringing us so together we were almost as one. His tongue slowly licked my lower lip, asking for permission to enter, and I gladly granted his entrance. He slowly explored my mouth, deepening the kiss.
When he pulled away, a string of saliva still connecting us to each other, he stared deep in to my eyes, a small smile appearing his face.
“I’ve been waiting for this since the first time I saw you” he smiled, his thumb running over my lips. The corner of my mouth curved in to a crooked smile.
“To be honest, I’ve been waiting since day two” I smirked, holding up to fingers in a peace sign. He smiled widely at that, his hand gliding from my cheek to my chin, holding up my look to him, before his lips touched mine again.
It was even more amazing then the first time. How soft his lips were, how his tongue entwined with mine, how his hands held me close to him, so tightly, like I was the most fragile thing in the world and if he would to let me go, I would fall apart and truth be told, I felt that way. Like if he were to ever let me leave his side again, my life would be over, I would be nothing without him.
“We should get to bed” mumbled Gerard when our lips somehow came to detach from one another.
“It’s not that late” I argued, even though I didn’t really know what time it was.
“It’s one in the morning, sweetheart. Three out of four people in this house have to be in school tomorrow” he smirked, pointing at the digital alarm clock on his nightstand, running his fingers through his hair, so perfectly.
“Oh, wow” I breathed, looking at the green digital lines that were forming the number 1, 0 and 5.
“Do you need anything to change or something?” asked Gerard, giving me a quick pat on the cheek before heading to his closet.
“Amm.. no I’m fine, thanks” I politely said, even though I so wanted to be inside his cloths, to be able to smell the scent on them, and knowing her wore them before made those cloths so much better.
“Are you sure?” he asked, pulling off his shirt and replacing it with a baggy, clearly over washed t-shirt.
“Mhm” I mumbled as I watched him, changed from his school pants and in to a grey pair of sweat pants. As he turned around, he threw a similar pair of sweat pants he had on an a shirt, that was clearly too big for me, too big to even consider it a baggy shirt, in to my lap, with a smirk on his face.
“That’ll probably suit you well” he said, crashing back down on the bed, unrolling the covers and slipping beneath them, waiting for me patiently to change. I watched him for a moment, figuring out if he was serious, but seeing that he was, I gave in and changed in to his, for me, over sized cloths. Even though they were so big, they felt so natural on me, felt so familiar to my skin, that I could complain one bit about them.
When changed, I slipped under the covers next to Gerard, not really certain on what to do, but luckily Gerard did. As soon as I was covered, he pulled me to him, our lips once again connecting in a gentle kiss, our arms and legs tangling together.
When the kiss was over, it was time to say goodnight and Gerard did just that. Our foreheads were still collided with each other as he whispered gently: “Goodnight, sweetheart”
He gave me another soft pat on my lips, then cuddled myself up to him, letting him hold me tight.
“Night, Gee” I smiled to him.
Even though we had said goodnight, I couldn’t fall asleep for another hour. I just couldn’t wrap my head around all that had happened tonight. It was like heaven had found it’s way in to my life, chasing away all my demons and leaving me this angel with the softest lips and gentlest touch.
