Home Is Where The Heart Is

Chapter Eighteen

*Kat POV*

----------------------------------------Next day---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I sat on the couch in the garage, watching Gerard set up the mike. It's not all that hard, but Gee's kinda nervous. He's still getting better after the hospital, but I think the band will keep him anchored down. I smiled, resting my hand on my growing bump. I convinced myself that, as far as anyone's concerned, the child is Gerard's.
"KAT!" Frank literally jumped on the couch next to me, a huge grin on his face. "We want you to leave."
"What?!" I gasped, faking offense. "And why would you ever want that?"
"Well, we don't want you to hear anything until we get a gig."
"Fair enough."

*Gerard POV*

After Kat went back upstairs, the band all gathered around in a circle. We were all gushing about what cords sound good until Mikey interupts.
"Wait, do we have ANY music? Like, lyrics?" He asks, looking at each of us.
"Well, uh, I've written some music. We could, uh, maybe use it." I stutter shyly. All the music I've done so far was written in the hospital, pouring my emotions into those words. I stood and walked to the couch, reaching under it for the old notebook. The first song scribbled down was called Skylines and Turnstiles. I wrote it after a nightmare I had about 9/11. I had been in New York that day and saw what happened. I sang it to the band, my voice raw after a few songs.

"Hey, Kat." I say, placing my hands on her waist. She leans back against me. "You and the baby have an appointment tomorrow."
"Thanks for reminding me. Oh, can I ask you something?" She asks, turning to face me.
"Anything, sugar."
"Well, I was thinking, I don't want Cole on the birth certificate. I mean, I'll never lie to the kid about who their dad is, but I'd feel better if your name were on the certificate. And, if your up for it, you can play the fatherly role in his or her life."
"Of course, babe. By the way, how far along are you?"
"About four months. Why?"
"Just wondering. You just seemed to be growing faster than my aunt did."
"Hmm... wanna go out for coffee?"
