The Spike in my Heart (Frerard)

Chapter Eight

Gerard’s P.O.V
“Gerard! Wake up!”
My brother’s frantic voice disturbs the rare peace in my mind and he knocks un-rhythmically on the barring lid of my coffin.
I stare vacantly into the heavy black surrounding me, debating whether I should just go back to sleep or not. Mikey seems to have silenced himself again, so I let my eyelids sink slowly shut.
“Gerard! Gerard Arthur Way!”
I snap my fingers sharply, an ugly snarl breaking from my cold lips as my eyes shoot open and I sit upright in the now open coffin.
What?!” I hiss quietly, the red burn in my eyes now subsiding.
Mikey does not seem to comprehend my displeasure at being awoken as he continues to speak in a tone which could shatter glass.
“You have to come up, Frank and Pete! Come on!”
He vanishes in an insignificant blurring of the dank air, leaving me to raise a cynical eyebrow at his absence. More for my own amusement than anything else.
“So now we have four little faggots. Great.”
I snap my head around with a scowl set into my features, one which Billie mirrors almost flawlessly. Almost.
“What the hell is your problem?” I spit the words viciously from my mouth, anger boiling in my stomach. I ignore the shocked glances from other vampires around the room as my voice echoes loudly.
“I get it Gerard. You and your brother want to be those rebels, but just grow out of this filth already.” Billie answers, his voice a resonating growl.
“If you think we can choose these things, then why don’t you choose to be gay for a week?” I step closer to where Billie leans back against the cold wall, his leg bent against the concrete and trying to look threatening.
He shrugs and folds his arms over his chest. “Well you’re freaks then.”
A blaze of red illuminates the room for a flashing moment as my eyes burn like heated razors and fade again, stirring gasps from around us. Stupid pantomime vampires.
“It’s just you and a couple of other naïve idiots who have the tiniest damn minds I have ever seen. Did every speck of intelligence drop out of you while you were kissing your girls?”
“Gerard, back off.” Ricky’s long black hair brushes the back of my neck as he places a hand on my shoulder and pulls me away. I only now realise that my face is bare millimetres away from Billie’s, he is flattened against the tainted grey of the stone wall.
I shrug Ricky’s hand off and turn to face him, my scowl never ebbing. He offers me a peaceful smile and says calmly,
“Don’t keep Frank waiting.”
I sigh and nod, forcing the corners of my lips upwards a miniscule amount but letting them drop again almost immediately. Too much effort.
I pause briefly in the elaborate archway through which I will exit the room and turn to look at a surprisingly silent Billie.
“Other than whom we choose to love, we are the same as you.”
Next thing I know, I am finally back out in the open air. Frank, Mikey and Pete stand in a small congregation in the deep shadows of the looming trees. As always, there is no sun streaming through into this part of the forest.
“You took your time!” Mikey exclaims, his excited voice contrasting dramatically with his immobile facial expression.
I shrug and shove my hands into the pockets of my tight fitting black jeans, reaching their trio.
“So, why did you call me up?” I ask, my anger not allowing the frown to vanish from my face. I see the entrancing twinkle in Frank’s eyes slowly be replaced by confusion and feel a pang of emotion.
“Frank and Pete go to school together!” Mikey announces and I feel the urge to pull a smile onto his tiny mouth. At least that way it would match his tone.
“Good for them.” I say, raising a single eyebrow and allowing my gaze to trail over Pete again. He probably is not actually all that tanned, but he looks it while he stands next to Frank and Mikey. He has a full on, side swept fringe concealing most of his brown eyes – which are heavily outlined.
“Yeah!” Pete grins widely, obviously not an expert in the subtle art of sarcasm. Or the heavily dripping sarcasm I layered my words with just then.
“Gerard, what’s up with you?” Frank asks me, his brow furrowed and his full lips moulded into a faint pout.
“We’re going to, um, head off now. See you later.” Pete giggles as he slips his hand into Mikey’s and drags him away through the trees, still sounding like a schoolgirl.
“Gee, I thought you’d be pleased.” Frank’s voice sounds again and he shakes his head to accompany his words, causing me to feel the stirring of guilt. I don’t want him to be disappointed.
“Look, I’m sorry Frankie. I guess I have a short temper. It’s a-“
“-Vampire thing?”
Frank finishes for me, chuckling softly.
Much to my surprise, Frank’s adorable smile causes a grin to spread over my lips.
“I suppose it is.” I answer, winking down at him. “Come on, let’s walk.”
I cross the glade and step into a shadow, here is where the sunlight begins to penetrate the forest’s cover. Frank catches up and slips his hand into mine carefully, sending a tingle of heat through my chilled skin.
Although I am only able to admire the sun’s golden warmth from the side-lines, Frank walks directly in the softly pooling light. In the beams, I can see dancing flecks of dust shimmering. They part rhythmically when Frank walks through them. His skin has a beautifully tinted glow to it, although the hand grasping mine always remains in the shadows.
“Go stand in the full sun.” I say, nodding my head towards a clearing in the trees, where the sunlight plays carelessly with the overgrown grass and invites the illuminated plants to join in.
Frank throws me a strange look, but drops my hand and strolls to stand in the clearing, with the burning sun framed perfectly by the rim of trees above him.
Standing there, looking curiously up at the blue shades rolling together around this vital star, Frank somehow manages to look more perfect than he ever has before. Light is thrown onto his sharp jawline and swirls around in the mist of his rusty eyes, every immaculate feature of his person shines through in the revealing but caring exposure of late afternoon sun. He is completely un-tarnished. The one I know I should not have, a human who is forbidden from holding my acquaintance, standing in the full exposure of something I will never touch – that gives me a beautiful thrill.
A breeze tumbles through the trees, tripping over itself and giggling pleasantly as it whispers its little secrets to the forest. In the clearing, it raises Frank’s dark hair away from his face and tickles his flawless skin.
I twirl my slender fingers in a winding pattern, summoning a stronger gust of wind which chases the breeze. As it hits Frank, he laughs loudly while stretching his arms out and throwing his head back – closing his eyes as the sun strikes them. The intricate tattoo crawling its way over his neck only heightens my view of his pulse, throbbing longingly beneath the restraint of his skin.
After the wind dies down, Frank drops his arms and walks back into the confines of the shadows I wait for him in, his cheeks flushed by the stirring air.
I cup his cheek and tenderly stroke my thumb over his sun-beaten skin, feeling the extra warmth course along me. He tilts his head back slightly again to look up at me and I cannot, do not, resist the urge to kiss him.
Our lips move in perfect sync and his piercing brushes pleasantly over my mouth. His arms wrap themselves around my waist and I slide a hand underneath his hoodie to trace his spine and feel him shiver.
“Erm…” An awkward cough causes Frank to jump away from me. I sigh and drop my hands slowly back to my sides, savouring the taste of him on my lips.
“I don’t really want to interrupt but, Frank, you have to come right now.” Pete gushes, his eyes wide. Beside him, Mikey looks the same as ever and, beside me, Frank wears a mask of bewilderment.
“W-what’s wrong?” He asks, his voice higher than usual.
“Your aunt!” Pete cries out as if it were perfectly obvious and Frank’s eyes widen to almost the size of those belonging to the homosexual raccoon addressing him.
Why can nothing good ever last?

@Sharpest_Life_B
Well obviously it isn't Frank's fault at all.... but Gerard didn't pursue him? Frank bumped into him in the forest... literally walked into him. That's how it started.
I personally melted into a puddle of feels after reading this too... I shall be in pain writing the next chapter
