Epilogue

-About 6 months later-
* Epilogue *

Autumn came around, and Gerard knew exactly how he would be spending it this year. He tried not to think about the previous year's events; but that proved hard, especially when he still visited his bothers grave, at least once a week.
In honesty Gerard really didn’t enjoy going there, he hated it. Everything about it gave him chills, everything about it there reminded him of how guilty he was, and Gerard knew he could never forgive himself for it, no matter how many times Frankie had assured him it wasn’t his fault. Sometime he’d be sitting at home fine one moment and it only took a gentle reminder and Gerard would be hating himself and crying into his pillows, because even though he had Frankie, and Frankie fucking loved him so much, and he understood it wasn’t Gerard’s fault, Gerard still managed to blame it all on himself.

The hardest part was the first few months after Frankie woke up; he wasn’t Frankie, he couldn’t talk for a while and it was really hard for him to understand things, he couldn’t stand up for too long, he couldn’t stomach much food, he had already lost a lot of muscle and it was hard to co-operate with him. Gerard had strict instructions to look after him, and he tried so hard, but Frankie being so… just out of it and not Frankie, it hurt a hell of a lot for Gerard to know this was his entire fault.

Until Frankie was back to normal almost, after lessons of speech therapy and visiting his physician, he started asking Gerard more and more about what happened and why he was out for so long, and at that point, it only really quite ticked for Gerard then, the fact Frankie quite literally gave himself up for Gerard.

“You err…” and Gerard tried to say it, but he didn’t really know where to start, what to begin with, because it wasn’t as simple as jumping the bullet for him.
“You saved my life, really-“
And only then had Gerard ticked on, the fact he was going to waste that by killing himself that night whilst Frankie was still in a comatose, and really Gerard was just drowning in a whole lot of guilt now and he was so torn up about it.

“See, it wasn’t your fault, gee, none of it was.” Frankie had tried to confirm to gee, but it didn’t really work very well so he just wrapped his arms around Gerard’s body and he just kissed him hard, to maybe shut him and make him realise there was nothing he could do but live now, and embrace what he had rather than dwell on the past.

And since then, Gerard always at least tried to be optimistic about things.

He and Frankie walked through the orange and brown leafy park, walking maybe closer together than necessary, their bodies pressed together whilst Gerard’s arm wrapped around his waist whilst Frankie’s head rest on his boyfriend’s shoulder.
They sort of just stopped near the lake, to look out over the tranquil waters surface that reflected the scarlet haze of trees and autumn leaves before them.
Frank took another sip from the steaming to go Starbucks cup, of ever so delicious and totally seasonally appropriate pumpkin spice latte, whilst Gerard finished his Grande black coffee and was just about to dispose of it in the near by bin.

The park was so gorgeous, and really, they never had quite appreciated it to the extend they should’ve, because here, now, the air chilled and settled with a gentle breeze, wisps of fresh wind that would pull the dead leaves along the mud stained concrete, and the horizon sinking into the sky creating an amber illusion above them, it was the most beautiful setting, so calming and seemingly dislocate, and only at that moment had they both taken the time to really appreciate all that this marvellous city had offered the both of them.

Gerard reluctantly steered his eyes off the setting sun that blended into the earth’s surface, and gently let go of Frankie so he could finally get rid of the empty to go cup that only left the traces of what was once a steaming fresh coffee, with its strong scent that seemed to have permanently stained the cup.

Gerard wrapped his long coat around himself a bit tighter, to try and keep in the warmth that his black skinny jeans and plaid red shirt just didn’t quite provide, before re-wrapping his arm around Frank’s waist.
Frank let out a little ‘giggle’, you could call it, unusually high pitched, even for him, when Gerard intertwined his fingers between franks, and frank rest his head back onto Gerard’s shoulder whilst they watched the daylight bleed into the nights sky ahead.

Their hands felt warm in each others, and when frank squeezed Gerard’s even tighter it was like he had just sent some for of electric shock through his whole body, because even though it had been a whole year since they first started dating, Gerard still hadn’t got tired of the feeling of their hands clasped together, and frank still hadn’t got over the butterflies that filled his stomach moments like these.

Because, it was just so beautiful, no words, there was no context to quite describe what they were both feeling, or the way the leaves floated around them, or the golden glow from the last drops of sun that dimly lit the park, nor the rich deep blue that the water reflected of the sky, or even the way the moon slowly started to fade into the huge picture, the glow lighting up the sky along with the few visible stars and the lights in the city far behind them.

Frank bit his lip softly, and turned himself into Gerard’s chest, into his strong embrace and he couldn’t help the big breath he took in, just to smell Gerard and feel him, he just couldn’t get enough of him. In response Gerard automatically wrapped both his arms around Frankie, so they stood there looking out upon the waters surface and into the setting sun’s horizon, as close together as they could get, wrapped up and just loving each others company more than anything else in the world. And frank honestly believed there was no better feeling than this.

“I like this coat on you Gerard, in fact, you look really good in this whole outfit.”
Frank barely whispered, rubbing his hands up and down Gerard’s chest, and maybe if Gerard weren’t quite so nervous, he would’ve found this more arousing than comforting.

“Yeah?” he stumbled over his words, trying his hardest not to let his nerves surface, because that was the last thing that he needed.

“Yeah, you always look good though, I mean-“
Gerard cut him off with a kiss, closed mouth and short, but enough to calm him ever so slightly.

“You know what this day is, right?”
Gerard asked cautiously, after the prolonged silence that lingered after the kiss, his foot tapping rapidly and his eyes set elsewhere.

“Of course I do, one whole year, why wouldn’t I, you big idiot?” frank teased, smirking and watching his boyfriends’ face contour into a frown, looking away from Frankie.

“Why, what’s up? What’s wrong gee?”
Frank’s face fell, whilst he tugged at Gerard’s arm.

And Gerard took a deep breath in and smiled, because maybe this would be the best decision ever, of course, they loved each other, what could go so wrong? Even though it was a forced smile, it didn’t mean the feelings weren’t genuine, because they really were, he was happy; his nerves were just getting the better of him.

Gerard confirmed that to him again, and inhaled a sharp breath before glancing sideways to make sure there weren’t too many people around; that could’ve been slightly unfitting, but he had to comprise anyway. Turned out there really wasn’t anyone else quite in his spot at that time of day at that time of year, so it was perfect, well he hoped it was going to go perfect.

Gerard decided to do it, to actually do it right there and in that moment, and there was going to be no going back, because he had wanted to do this for months, he just wasn’t sure if it was going to turn out like he wanted it to, but there was only really one way to find out, right?

“Frankie,” he started, pulling out of his grip to step away, and frank looked dangerously worried at that point, because Gerard started acting weird, and then he was okay, and now he was smiling but his hands were shaking at the same time and frank was just really confused, especially when Gerard put his hands into his pocket and grabbed something, and knelt down on one knee in front of him, and asked him that question, that question he could only dream of leaving his boyfriends mouth.

“I love you, I really, really love you frank iero, and fuck, i-i-, fuck- will you marry me?”
And all it took was the hopeful look in his eyes, and the way he bit his lip in anticipation, and the way he just looked up at frank like that, the ring in the box, the question still floating around that frank just snapped out of his confused trance and he didn’t even need to consider it; he knew the answer and really, it was soon but it would be all he’d ever dream of.

A smile broke through his face and he couldn’t find the words, even though he was only looking for a simple three letter single syllable word, it took a few too many seconds for him to actually force the word yes out, because he just couldn’t speak, and he couldn’t think properly, he just knew this was it and nothing could even compare to this feeling, and maybe it was overwhelming, but it was a good overwhelming, like getting twins or triplets rather than one child; he imagined it to be that sort of good overwhelming.

Gerard was just so relieved that he could finally slide the ring onto his finger, and just touch him and feel him and kiss him, kiss him like he’d never kissed anyone ever before.
And frank honestly thought, only two minutes ago, nothing could be a better feeling, but this beat it by far.

Not that it should take a ring on a finger and a floating promise to confirm your love, it still just made it better, it just made it even more official because this was happening, this was something for life and now they were never going to give up on each other, they couldn’t, because a marriage proposal is a promise unlike any other, it’s something that you can’t just take back or fuck with, or change your mind on, really, it was something that lead to so much more and held so much together, even if it’s did take a ring and a floating promise to come to that conclusion.

Gerard wrapped his arm around franks waist, whilst they attached their lips, not caring one bit about the flashes of cameras, because of course it was bound to happen, after all, Gerard way just proposed, in a park, over the sunset.

But it was their moment, and frank felt all fuzzy and warm inside because not only was going to have great sex tonight with his fiancé, but the way his lips felt against his and they way his arms held him and the way he whispered ‘I love you’ between the few breaks for air was damn the best feeling ever, the way his hands tangled in Gerard’s hair and the way his heart squeezed and the fact he knew people were watching and cheering behind for them, it almost felt unreal.

They pulled away and Gerard had to wipe the tears from franks eyes, because he was so happy he was crying and soon Gerard was almost crying and really, they were just two hot, extremely gay, soppy and completely in love emotionally wrecked guys that relied on each other to survive, because really they had both saved each other. This was almost too much to handle, especially when frank looked down at the ring on his finger that was grasped between his fiancé’s, his to be husbands hands and it brought a new wave of tears because just the sight of it and the way Gerard looked into his eyes was extremely sappy, but just so genuine and so fucking full of love and emotion and passion, it really was unreal, because how did he end up here?

Notes

lol this epilogue was cheesy af

please read this u buttbags it's an end of story authors note you can't just skip this shit

*tests mic*

well so yeah, its over guys and that's sort of strange. i wrote this like the day i posted the last chapter but i've been contemplating posting it or not for the previous two weeks.

i really wanna thank everyone who read even a chapter of this, because it was fun and to know people liked this shit - or even if you didn't like it, that's cool, you gave it a go so what ever- it means more than words can really comprehend.

my feelings towards this fic are indescribable, i still don't know if i'm proud i wrote this or just annoyed at my constant lack of ability to write a decent enough, interesting story with some notion of plot line, because being the writer i don't know wether this story was so obvious and if everything was bound to happen, or maybe it was just a little too perplexing for some, i'm honestly not quite sure.

but as always, you guys were pretty generous with the praise and the comments, and i'm genuinely really happy i can just talk to any of you's at any given moment and the likely outcome would be that you 'd all be happy to talk and you'd always help me out and say nice things, and it's really nice to know that there are more people out there than just the assholes at school that constantly give you shit and, i'm ranting but seriously you guys are so nice and i just want to say thanks.

so yeah, every subscribe, rating and comment, even if i hadn't replied, meant so much and i honestly still freak out when people comment or i get private messages or people message me on kik (which btw i realised about a week ago i had given you the wrong username so sorry if you tried to get in touch and well that wasn't me- the right one is @itouchedfranksleg if you want it- and somehow i still managed to get some messages through which is more than a little bit confusing?)

but anyway, i'm tempted to rewrite this story, and make it better, possibly make a watt pad acc too bc i much prefer that app idk (would any of you follow me? pls say) or possibly even rewrite it on here, but at the same time i can't be bothered and i just want to start new stories, you know?

but then again i'm not too sure wether i want to write anymore stories, so if you'd like me to, please comment or something because i have tonnes of ideas i just don't know if my writing is actually any good and its just irritating constantly doubting myself about it, and i don't know if any of you would read any of my potential stories-to-be.

i think that's all i wanted to cover without this being too long, i swear there was more and i mentally wrote like a whole books worth of author to reader notes that i really need to say, but now all i can think of is thank you and i love you guys so much. so, yeah, :)

Pls write more stories!!! This was awesome. I'd read/follow u on Watt pad although I prefer AO3 or this site as far as reading and subbing. But Ive read that it's much easier to write on Watt pad a number of times. So...
