Someone Help Him up

"Daddy! I don't want to go!" I sighed as David refused to let me dress him. He'd been upset at school lately and i can see why. It's hard for a kid to switch schools even in kindergarten. It was also a lot header because he liked the day care at his mom's place.
"Dave help daddy out here okay? I have to go to school to school too, and it would really make daddy happy if you came with him." i said hoping he'd agree for me.
He groaned and started crying. "They don't like me there!"
"baby I'm sure they love you okay? Daddy loves you and i'm sure they will too."
Then david said what breaks my heart continuously. "I want to go back to mommy's"
"Dave please don't be like that. Now please get dressed or i'm gonna make you go without clothes on." he looked at me with wide eyes thinking i was serious, and then finally let me dress him.

I dropped David off and went to my first class, it went by pretty quickly and there hadn't been any calls to the office to handle David. I love him with all my heart, but it's hard having a kid, and trying to stay sober. i really did want david to have a family life, but i can't go near his mom. Jamia was an awesome person but we weren't ready and she's still doing a lot of drugs and i want to be the best parent as possible.

Mikey is really my only friend and he's helped me stay clean since i found out about Jamia being pregnant. I knew i had to get my shit together and he helped me. I had just been 15 when i found out i was going to be a dad and i had to repeat a year of school because of trying to get clean.

My parents were seriously upset and had no idea something like this would happen this early to me. They knew i got into trouble but they didn't know i was out fucking a girl a year older than me and doing hard drugs.

I went through the rest of my day in a haze and at two o'clock I got a text from Mikey saying he had picked David up for me like he does everyday. The kids program ends half an hour earlier than school and you had to pay extra for the aftercare program. That was money i just didn't have.

yes i lived with my parents still, but it was an agreement that it was my kid and i was the one taking care of it, not them. They would never deny me money if i really needed it but i tried to prove them wrong and show i could take care of my kid.

Now being nineteen and trying to finish senior year was extremely painful and hard, but i wasn't going to fail out. I texted mikey back letting him know i got his message and that I'd be over at his place as soon as possible to get David.

Mikey and me met through Jamia but he cut off ties with her too when he got clean about a year before me. Mikey is twenty-three and thats about all i really know besides that he's my best friend and the best god father to my son.

Mikey is just a really chill guy, even after all he's been through with his parents kicking him out after being arrested for heroine possession. I love mikey to death but i don't think we'd ever date considering he's straight.

That's also one of my biggest concerns in life being bi, having two dads for david. I know its becoming a more common thing but kids still get bullied for being gay and me marrying a guy leaves no room for people to be kind about it towards me or my son.

After my last lesson of Comm Skills with Mr. Way I was walking to mikey's but decided that since David had been so unhappy about going to school that i would take a detour and get a surprise for him.

I was in a local convenience store in the kids aisle when someone started laughing. "aren't you a little old for these things?" i turned to see mr. Way standing there with a basket in his hand.

"oh hey Mr. Way, and no definitely not too old, but it's not for me anyway so." i said scratching the back of my neck.
"not for you?"
"oh uh yeah it's a gift for my little cousin, i just thought it would be a nice idea y'know"

He just nodded at me "yeah i'm sure he'll be happy with whatever. "Well i'll see you tomorrow frank for that presentation." he smiled.

What fucking presentation?
