Dead.

Chapter Twenty-Five

Another body. I felt like I was back in the beginning, when I was just another townsman. Mikey and I stared in awe as young Charlie's dead body was carried out from the small room in the alley, onto a nearby gurney stretcher. Gerard had torn down the yellow tape around the area, going back to his room to kill Charlie. It was a very stupid, risky move.

I scowled, "What an idiot."

Mikey blinked a few times, "Huh?" He didn't hear my soft words, and that was good.

"Nothing." I said, staring at Charlie's fresh blood dripping onto the pavement.

The cries of his mom and girlfriend echoed through the silent street. We were all quiet for remorse, but up ahead, on the other side of the dead body, was Gerard. He stared at me, causing eye contact. It was almost like I can feel his rage, his sorrow. He covered his pain with a smile, and a one-nod.

I did not respond in anyway.

I broke eye contact, "Mikey we should go."

Mikey blinked a few times, "Frank?"

I looked at him, "Yeah?"

"How many, do you think, bodies we'll see?" Mikey seemed distant, his eyes focused on the blood that dripped out of Charlie's wounds.

I replied, laying a hand on his shoulder, "Hopefully not another one, right?"

I hadn't gave attention to his tear until now. It flowed down from his eye, onto his cheek. Mikey stammered, "He-he was so young," He turned his face to me, "Frank, I'm scared."

I stared at him. I wasn't sure how to react. I patted his back, before taking him in for a hug. He was warm, cuddly. He smelled of sweet fruit, and cheap cigs. Mikey grasped onto my shirt, crying softly. His voice was scrappy, "I wish they would capture the bastards already, y'know?"

Mikey was scared, and he wasn't the only one. Everyone around the crime scene was scared. Gerard had done this, and most think two was involved. I'll admit, I've thought about turning in Gerad, but I know I could never go through with it. Even if Gerard is a crazy lunatic with little ambition, I still loved him.

--

I took some time of my night to walk Mikey home. He was hurling his food we ate before all throughout the walk. I knew he wasn't sick physically, but the thought of dead bodies and himself dying made him throw up. Mikey wiped his mouth with his sleeve, "Thanks for walking me, Frank."

I stopped as he paused by his front door, "No problem."

Mikey opened his door, but did not enter. He stared inside his dark home.

I looked at him, "Mikey?"

He turned his head to me, "I-do you want to sleep over?"

My body flinched, "Uh, no." I didn't mean to come off as rude, but it did sound like it. I quickly added, "It's okay that you're scared. Everyone is. Just call me if you need anything, okay?"

Mikey looked down. He murmured, "Okay." Mikey walked in, and then shut the door behind him.

I wasn't going to go back-that was until I saw Gerard. He was hidden in the dark, "Hey." There was a cig in between his lips as he stepped forward, "Been a while, huh?"

"Not really."

Gerard smirked, "Tell me something, Frank," He came closer, "Don't you miss me?"

"Hardly."

Gerard came so close that his scent of cheap cologne and cigarettes trailed up my nose. His chin touched my nose slightly as he made his fingers dance on my waist, "Frank...I miss you." His breath reeked, but I loved it. I was a trance when he grinned. He pushed back his raven hair, "We don't need to play these games, love." His hand dove inside my pants. His hand played with my body. I got hard, but I wasn't going to fall for his act. I grabbed his wrist and reeled his hand out. I took a few steps back, "Gerard. I need you to go away."

Gerard took his cig and slammed it onto the ground. He smacked his shoe over the burning cig and yelled, "I'm trying, here!" He stopped. He took in a deep breath. His smile would send chills down people's back, "Fine."

Gerard looked as if he was going to turn away, but his eyes glanced up at Mikey's home, "How's Mikey?" There was a sly, destructive tone in his voice.

I scowled, "Gerard, don't you dare."

He ignored my comment, "I'm going to say hi." He pushed his hair back as he walked by me, but I didn't let him get far. I snatched his jacket and reeled him back, "Don't you fucking dare touch him."

Gerard stumbled, "Do you love him?"

"Don't be an idiot. Of course not. But that doesn't mean I don't care for him."

Gerard glared at me. He didn't say anything. Not one word. He instead straightened out his jacket, and disappeared into the darkness.

I looked away. I gathered myself together before going inside Mikey's home. I found him fast asleep on the couch. I sighed softly as I locked the door, and made sure the windows were locked as well. I sat on the couch, wide awake. I watched Mikey as his breathing balanced. Gerard was sick, and it wouldn't surprise me if he went after Mikey just to hurt me. So, I would have to do everything to protect Mikey, even if it meant in the end, I would have to end Gerard.
