Keep Running

Did we All Fall Down?

The small crack of dawn light was what woke Frank up two days later. The light came through the windscreen, at first a small spread of light, but grew to fill up the whole van with the glorious light. Frank began to pull himself from his dreams, and stirred to find the van deathy silent. He liked it that way. He recalled the events of the previous days, and started to come alive. His eyes widenend, but not out of panic; it was out of shock that it actually happened. Frank thought it was a dream.

The van door openned, and he put his had down again, but listened very carefully to the man in the front seat. The van filled up with the aroma of coffee, and this made Frank's stomach grumble. Frank was self concious of this, and started to go red. The man chuckled ot himself, catching a glimpse of the smaller male "Sleeping" in the rear-view mirror. Frank moved a hand to his stomuch, and cringed when his tummy gurgled again. He rolled over, so he wasn't facing the front of the van, so the man couldn't see his face. He face the back doors, and opened his eyes.

Frank felt himself drift in and out of a slumber state, when the back doors opened. The man was there, with a cup of coffee in his hand, and a grin on his face. "I knew you weren't asleep," he grinned, and stepped into the back of the van, and slumped down opposite to Frank. Frank sat up, and pressed his back up as close to the other van wall as possible. He wasn't scared, but he was keeping a good distance. He had seen what this man could do, and it wasn't Frank's idea of fun.

"I'm not a monster, you know," the man said, handing Frank a cup of coffee. Frank took it with shaky hands, and nodded in acknoledgement to say thank you. The man raised his head, just a little, to accept this, and let go of the cup. The cup wobbled in his hand, and Frank nearly spilt on himself, but he rescued it, and took a sip; his eyes were watching the man with a steely glare, or at least he tried. It was uncomfortable for his eyes to be at that angle when his mouth was doing something else. The coffee was steaming hot and just the way Frank liked his coffee: cream, two sugars, and chocolate sprinkles.

"Gerard," said the man, "I'm Gerard." He offered his hand to Frank, and Frank returned this move with an eagle eye, and he took another sip of his coffee. Gerard retracted his hand, and rubbed the back of his neck. Frank lowered the cup when he did this, and they sat in silence.

This silence gave Frank a chance to look and think about this man. The name Gerard gave a clue about this mysterious article infront of him. The name "Gerard" sounded old fashioned, and he could of come from a traditional home. He was of medium height, and quite skinny. He had long arms, and the hand wrapped around his coffee cup was abnormally large. Frank looked at his face, into his eyes. His eyes were hazel, and he turned his head in the light, they appeared a lighter shade of green. His matted raven hair was sticking up on his head messily at different angles (a slight change of appearance since their last encounter), like it was stiff with grease, but it suited his face. His jaw line was prominent, and Frank couldn't find any fault with this man.

Apart from he was a murderer.

"Why," Frank started. He couldn't bring himself to finish the sentence. His tone was flat, with no emotion. He was dorwsy, and he felt like he had a hangover.

"Why what?" Gerard said simply. Could he really be that oblivious? Could he just sit there and act like he hadn't stabbed someone, and then on top of that, kidnapped a junior, and taken him miles away from home.

"Why... The man... in the alley... and me? It... it's.." Frank managed to spit out before his anxeity got the better of him, and he stopped. Gerard looked at him, square in the eye, and he squirmed under this mans watch.

"It's complicated." Gerard stated, deadpan. Frank could feel his inner most anger getting the better of him at this moment. His hairs on his back felt like they were standing on end, and the tension point in on the back of his neck mas making knots the size of stones.

"How can you sit there and say "IT'S COMPLICATED"?! Bullshit!" Frank spat out at this man, and Gerard backed away a bit shocked at Frank's sudden outburst. Frank regretted it quickly, and tried to swallow his words back up into his mouth, but tat was next to impossible. Gerard put his hand deep inot his pocket, and left in there. Frank's eyes widenend, and he drew in a quick breath of air. He could have anything in his pocket; a knife, a gun. He started to freak, and breathed quickly. He remembered what he learnt in self-defence class. "Attack first if you know you are about to be attacked first," his teacher's words rang in his ear. Adrenaline ran through his vains. He was getting worked up and he wanted to hit Gerard.

So he did.

Gerard took it well. He didn't hit back, but he did restrain Frank. Frank elbowed Gerard in the torso, to knock the wind out of him. It was succsesful, but only for a matter of seconds. Gerard reached for his wrists, and he held them behind the smaller males back. "Easy tiger," he patronised Frank. Frank tried kicking; didn't work. "You wanna try that again?" He pulled tighter on Franks arms, so hard he squealed. Gerard's lips curved into a grim, slick smile. He did it again, and Frank made that sound.

"Okay, you can stop making that sound now, it's turning me on."
