Second Nature

Just Peachy

Blake’s P.O.V

“Do you know who it is?” asked Anna as we all sat around eating our dinner silently, the tension thick in the air. Despite being civil for the likes of Anna and Frank given a free opportunity I would so like to wrap my thighs around Gerard's neck until he breathes his last breath, and I can assure you from the glare he's giving me now he the feeling is very much mutual.
“Who me?” I asked tearing my gaze away from Gerard, who I imagined spasming on the floor from a killer death chop . “Nooo not at all.” I smiled and carried on eating my lasagna as Gerard muttered something about probably being for work. They actually worked? We stayed like this for a while longer until I’d decided I'd ran out of scenarios to kill Gerard in.
“I need to powder my nose.” I smiled fakery as Anna nudged Gerard in his ribs when she heard my hiss of pain. I heard his chair scrap back against the wooden floor before I put my hand up. “I’m ok thank you I can manage.” I smiled at the both and noticed Anna’s uneasy look as I hobbled my way out of the room.
It wasn't hard to guess what room they were in and to whom he was arguing with. “It is my decision when and IF I report her to the council or not. To be rather honest with you I’m a little pissed you both came out here for this intervention. It is my decision and no amount of pressure from my parents will change that. So good evening and goodbye.” He spat out. Guess that truly is the meaning of peer pressure. I sniggered at my own pun as I leaned against the doorframe, before stumbling in when the door was swung open revealing an elderly looking smartly dressed lady whose eyes went unbelievable wide before flashing red. “Pets who listen in private conversations get punished.” She spat as she grabbed me by my hair and started dragging me in as I cried out from the surprise and pain, running to keep the pressure from my head.
“Get off her!” I heard Frank shout as there was a tug on my hair and suddenly nothing. I screamed as Frank caught me mid fall.
“Shit shit shit.” I whimpered out as he carried me over to the sofa in his office and laid me down, sliding my skirt up to reveal my busted stitch pouring with blood. He quickly ripped part of his shirt sleeve off and tied it round the wound to apply pressure. “I’m sorry.” I whispered looking down at him as he smiled and put his bloodied hand up to stop me.
“Mother, Father,” he looked at the both stood beside me, “this is Blake Darling and three weeks ago she saved my life.” He spoke loudly and confidently as his mother snarled and his father looked at him questioningly.

“Frank I think you have some explaining to do.” His father spoke quietly as he perched on the edge of the desk behind him.
I noticed him about to talk before I put my hand on his arm. “Maybe I should.” I looked up at him before turning my attention to his dad. “I was sent to kill your son, by who I do not know, he stopped me and caught me and tried to get answers. I didn't give him the answers but he has tried to help me. Three weeks ago your son was teaching me things I had never been taught by my boss and I sensed danger, I rolled us down a hill just as a gunshot rang out. With the help of Frank we managed to take down the three men sent to kill us both. In the process I got shot in my leg and Frank has been helping me to recover.” I looked at the both to see if they were taking it in.
“Like a human could kill my son.” His mother spat out smirking.
“That's the thing mother, she's not human. She's one of us. She's a vampire.” This time it was Frank who spoke out as both his parents looked shocked. The next few hours or so were spent talking his parents through my change over, reliving parts I didn't ever want to relive again.
“I know I am wanted by the council, I truly understand that but if you would just give me a month or two at the most I can take down the network that is trying to kill off your son. I can guarantee that they won't just stop with your son. I know these men, I know their intentions, they are power hungry and want to turn the world into a dark dark place.”
“How do we know that this wasn't the plan all along? To make your way into the house to get better access to all of us.?” His mother questioned leaning forward in her chair trying to intimidate me.
“I can give you two reasons for that. Firstly, I took a bullet for your son. Ask him yourself I knew there was a strong possibility of my dying out there,. There's no love in that business. And secondly, but most importantly, my best friend is in this house and Trust me when I tell you there is not one thing I would do if it would put her in danger. Much you like your trying to protect your soon from the likes of me, I’m trying to protect her too.” I looked her square in the eye never averting my gaze, never allowing my voice to waver.
She looked away slowly, before turning to Frank. “Two months and the council come here. On this date.” She looked at him worry washed all over her face, “you still however have to host the gala at the weekend. So that is your true text Miss Darling. I don’t trust you, prove me wrong.” With that she was gone swiftly followed by her husband.

We sat there in silence both not looking at each other as I coughed softly. “You realise you just made a promise to my mother. You can't break that now Blake.” He looked in my direction but not at me,
“I know. And I intend not to.” I whispered back before continuing, “wait did you think I was here to gain better access?” I whispered trying to mask the hurt in my voice and the tears in my eyes.
“No no.” He said unconvincingly, “maybe at the start.” He looked at me as he bit his lip.
“Wow. I opened up to you and that's what you thought?” I wiped my eyes quickly as Gerard and Anna walked in.
“Who was the visitors?” Gerard asked slowly as I stood up.
“My parents.” Frank spoke out as I steadied myself.
“Everything ok?” It was Anna asked this time.
“Everything is just peachy.” I spoke as I hobbled out of the room as quick as I could, ignoring the drip of blood make its way down my leg.
